The Chicago Fire return to Toyota Park for the first of two games this week against high-profile opponents, starting with a visit Wednesday by Real Salt Lake. The Fire are undefeated since Frank Klopas took over as interim head coach, extending their unbeaten streak to five with a 1-1 draw at New England last time out. Real are coming off a late 1-1 home draw against D.C. United last weekend. REFEREE: Juan Guzman. Real won both meetings last season, extending their unbeaten streak against Chicago to four games in all competitions.

The win last year at Toyota Park was the first ever for RSL. They did win on penalties in the 2009 Eastern Conference Championship, after the game officially ended in a draw.

Coaches record: Jason Kreis v CHI: P8 W2 L2 D4 … Frank Klopas vs. RSL: first game CHICAGO FIRE The Chicago Fire played to a fourth draw in the last five games, ending 1-1 with the New England Revolution on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium. The Fire have 15 points from 15 matches on the year, sitting in a three-way tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. LAST MATCH

Chicago's Dominic Oduro opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. Patrick Nyarko's diagonal ball from a counter located Oduro as he stormed through midfield. Oduro surged toward the penalty area and unleashed a quick shot inside the far post.

Lekic restored parity three minutes after play resumed after Pat Phelan shot a ball into Rajko Lekic's feet inside the penalty area. The offside flag stayed down and the unmarked Lekic then easily poked home into the far side of the net.

Fire interim head coach Frank Klopas made one change to the team that defeated the Columbus Crew 1-0 at Crew Stadium. Cristian Nazarit came into the team in place of the departed Gaston Puerari.

CHICAGO FIRE (4-1-3-2): Sean Johnson - Jalil Anibaba, Cory Gibbs, Yamith Cuesta, Gonzalo Segares - Logan Pause - Dominic Oduro, Baggio Husidic (Daniel Paladini 74), Patrick Nyarko - Cristian Nazarit (Gabriel Ferrari 85), Diego Chaves (Orr Barouch 63).

three draws after taking the reins. The New England goal was the first conceded by the Fire in 334 minutes, since the 2-2 home draw with San

Jose on May 28.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

“The one thing that we addressed right away is team defending as a group because we were giving opportunities and we adjusted certain areas and tried to stay compact, even though the [New England] game was kind of wide open,” Klopas said. “I just try to give the players confidence and I think that’s the really important thing and let them know that I believe in the team.”

Since returning to between the posts the San Jose game, goalkeeper Sean Johnson has also not seen the side fall, 1-0-4 since replacing Jon Conway.

Defensively, I think we were OK. We gave away a couple opportunities but just the same on the other end. We had a few opportunities to score so coming out with a result, I think we’ll be happy with and we’ll move forward as long as we keep chugging away and getting points, especially on the road now,” Johnson said. “Now we’re back home for two games ,so I think it’s important to pick up a point, go back home and recoup and get ready to play Salt Lake on Wednesday.”

With the sale of Gaston Puerari to Atlas of the FMF Mexican Primera Division, Cristian Nazarit returned to the starting lineup; he had started three consecutive games before going to the bench for the win in Columbus.

Klopas took off both strikers late in the match, bringing on Orr Barouch and then Gabriel Ferrari. “They came in and they gave us … more energy and more movement off the ball and just tried to push the

favor towards our side and I think we did that and we created chances,” Klopas said. “Unfortunately the ball didn’t go in the net

Dominic Oduro scored his third goal in the last six games, returning to the scoresheet after going three games without a goal. Oduro has pulled into a tie for the team lead in goals with Diego Chaves and Marco Pappa.

“We’ve been working on trying to get the ball into the net in that second half and creating a whole lot of chances,” Oduro said. “I think we should have buried a couple of them - very disappointed in that. But we just have to keep moving forward, just keep working on that and hopefully we get better.”

REAL SALT LAKE Real Salt Lake saw their winless run reach three games, D.C. United getting a late penalty as the teams ended in a 1-1 draw Saturday evening at Rio Tinto Stadium. RSL sits in a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference, with 22 points from 13 matches. LAST MATCH

RSL took the lead in the 38th minute when United's Clyde Simms was adjusted to have handled the ball in the box. Fabián Espíndola stepped up to the spot and sent goalkeeper Bill Hamid the other way.

But United found the leveler five minutes from time when Chris Wingert looked to trip up Charlie Davies in the area and referee Terry Vaughn pointed to the spot. The U.S. striker converted the ensuing penalty.

RSL coach Jason Kreis made two changes to the side that came back for a 1-1 draw with Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. Tony Beltran came in for Robbie Russell in the back, and Collen Warner started for Luis Gil in midfield.

REAL SALT LAKE (4-1-3-2): Nick Rimando - Tony Beltran, Jamison Olave, Nat Borchers, Chris Wingert (Robbie Russell 85) - Kyle Beckerman - Andy Williams, Collen Warner (Will Johnson 66), Ned Grabavoy - Jean Alexandre, Fabian Espindola (Artur Aghasyan 83).

TEAM NEWS The late penalty left Real feeling like the draw was more of a loss. They have just one win in their last seven

league games, after opening the season with five victories in their first six. "We can talk all we want about the penalty, but I'd rather talk about how it gets there," said RSL coach Jason

Kreis. "You don't want to open yourself up to a counterattack when you have a 1-0 lead off a dead ball that's yours. … I think we have to be very disappointed to have kind of the three points wrapped up and then to give away the counterattack and then be at the mercy of the referee's decision."

Fabian Espindola scored his third goal in the last four matches, leading the club with four league goals on the season.

Real again had midfielder Will Johnson available, coming off the bench to play 24 minutes after starting all three group games for Canada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Real will also have striker Alvaro Saborio after Costa Rica’s exit from the continental championship. “We’re going to continue to do what we did when he was here. We’re going to continue to believe in him, work

on the technical aspects of his finishing, and at the end of it he’s going to have to come through this rough patch,” Kreis said of Saborio. “Forwards have rough patches and this one has been a little longer than probably typical for him – and for most guys – but he’ll come through.”

RSL has scored eight goals in the last 10 league games, after starting the season with seven goals in their first three.

“Score. I know it sounds silly, but it's true. We could have possessed the ball better, just in general, but that's what happens. I feel like with the way we have been playing, to come out with the 1-0 win would have been great, even though we only scored a goal,” defender Chris Wingert said. “To battle in the second half and come away with the 1-0 win would have been great and, obviously, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.”

Robbie Findley tallied from the spot in the 40th minute in RSL’s victory at TOYOTA PARK on July 8 before Alvaro Saborio did the same with a converted spot kick in first half stoppage time on September 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Though they haven’t been victorious against RSL since a 1-0 win at Toyota Park on August 1, 2009, the Fire still hold a 5-3-4 all-time regular season advantage over the 2005 expansion side. QUICK KICKS vs. REAL SALT LAKE (6-3-4, 15 GF, 8 GA) FIRE vs. Real Salt Lake 3-1-2 (6 GF, 3 GA) FIRE @ Real Salt Lake 2-2-2 (8 GF, 6 GA) The last seven encounters (including the 2009 Eastern Conference

Final have been low scoring affairs, with all wins (3) decided by one goal or finishing as draws.

After spending 13 seasons in Chicago, Fire Original CJ Brown is now serving as an assistant coach for Real Salt Lake

The Fire ride a five-match unbeaten streak into Wednesday’s encounter with a 1-0-4 record.

After having their 29-game home unbeaten streak snapped on May 28, RSL enter the match with a 1-2-2 record through their last 5 matches.

A LOOK AT THE FIRE The Chicago Fire (2-4-9, 15 pts.) enter their 14th season of MLS play after posting a 9-12-9 record in 2010. Disappointed with missing out on the playoffs for just the second time in club history, the Fire have made many changes to the roster for 2011, bringing in the likes of veteran U.S. defender Cory Gibbs, Croatians Josip Mikulic (defender) and Marko Maric (midfielder) as well as Uruguayan striker Diego Chaves. In all, the club is returning 13 players to the roster, meaning half the players opening the season are new to the club in 2011. 2010 MLS All-Star selection and Goal of the Year winner midfielder Marco Pappa returns for his 4th MLS season and looks to build upon his team leading seven goals in 2010. Joining Pappa in the midfielder are 2010 Fire MVP and newly named captain Logan Pause and last season’s assist leader Patrick Nyarko, while 2011 MLS Combine MVP Jalil Anibaba will patrol the backline with offseason acquisitions Gibbs and Mikulic. TODAY’S TELECAST Today’s game is being broadcast regionally on My50 with Dan Kelly on the call and Evan Whitfield serving as analyst. FIRE EXTEND LEAGUE UNBEATEN STREAK TO FIVE MATCHES WITH 1-1 DRAW AT NEW ENGLAND Frank Klopas only made one change to the side that defeated the Columbus Crew last weekend, placing Cristian Nazarit back in the Starting XI in place of the transferred Gaston Puerari. The lineup consistency paid dividends as the Fire drew first blood in the 32nd minute. Switching quickly from defense to offense, Nyarko sprung his countrymen with a slotted pass in the middle of the park. Oduro collected the ball and with a burst of speed darted through the Revolution defense. The Ghanaian advanced into the offensive third before side-stepping two Revs defenders and beating ‘keeper Matt Reis with a low, driven ball that tucked inside of the far post for the 1-0 advantage. The Revs pulled level early in the second half. Pat Phelan collected the ball at the top of the 18-yard box before slipping a pass to Rajko Lekic who snuck in behind the Fire defense. The Revolution forward calmly settled the ball before swinging the ball into the back of the net, beating Johnson to the far post. It was the first goal the Fire had conceded in 334 minutes. Orr Barouch once again provided a spark off of the bench. In the 73rd minute the 19-year-old separated himself from his mark in the penalty area and sent a guided header towards goal, only to see Ryan Guy clear it off of the line to deny the Fire the go-ahead goal. Appearing in his first Fire match, Gabriel Ferrari entered the game for Cristian Nazarit in the 85th minute and was put through on goal down the right two minutes later but his effort was matched with a kick save from Matt Reis. FIRE TO HONOR C.J. BROWN FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY NIGHT’S GAME The Chicago Fire Soccer Club will honor Fire Original CJ Brown when the 13-year Fire defender returns to TOYOTA PARK for the Chicago Fire – Real Salt Lake game on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. CT (My50). Brown currently serves as an assistant coach for Real Salt Lake. The club will honor Brown in front of the Fire faithful at TOYOTA PARK in a postgame tribute to the Fire Original’s exceptional career in Chicago. Brown’s wife, Kim, and two girls, Canessa and Kali will be in attendance as the Fire welcome back the player who appeared in 370 matches across all competitions for the Men in Red, by far the most appearances in the club’s history. Brown, who retired following the Fire’s final regular season match in 2010, was drafted number one overall in the 1998 MLS Supplemental Draft out of San Jose State University and made an immediate impact on the Fire expansion side, appearing in 17 games during the club’s inaugural season. The stout defender helped lead the club to the American “Double”, winning MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup in the club’s first year. Brown’s MLS record 13 consecutive seasons with the Fire saw the defender tally five goals and 15 assists while helping the club to six domestic championships. The 2001 MLS All-Star selection garnered the club’s 2006 and 2010 Defender of the Year award and has made contributions off the field as well, winning the 2001, 2002 and 2003 Fire/United States Soccer Federation Humanitarian of the Year awards for his efforts in the Chicagoland area community. The Hayward, CA product began his soccer career with the San Francisco Bay Seals in the United Soccer League Premier Development League (former USISL Premier League) from 1994 to 1997, where he appeared in 47 matches before getting picked by the Fire UNBEATEN IN FOUR GAMES The Chicago Fire are unbeaten in four matches since Frank Klopas took the interim head coaching role on May 30. The team has also yet to concede a goal under the guidance of the Chicago soccer legend. See how all other Fire coaches fared through their first four regular season matches at the helm of the team: Coach Debut Year Record/Pts GF/GA Bob Bradley 1998 2-2-0/6 4/2 Dave Sarachan 2003 1-0-3/6 4/3 Juan Carlos Osorio 2007 1-1-2/5 4/5 Denis Hamlett 2008 2-1-1/7 6/2 Carlos de los Cobos 2010 1-2-1/4 5/5 Frank Klopas 2011 1-0-3/6 2/1 *Denis Hamlett only coach two regular season games when he took over as interim head coach between in 2007. He went 0-1-1 in those matches. THREE PLAYERS ON FOUR GOALS A PIECE With his 32nd minute goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at New England, Ghanaian winger Dominic Oduro tied Diego Chaves and Marco Pappa for the club’s 2011 lead in goals with four. The strike means the Fire have three goal scorers to hit four goals two months before they did in 2010. Pappa appeared in all four of Guatemala’s matches at the Gold Cup, scoring one goal and setting up three others in los Chapines 4-0 victory over Grenada on June 13 in Harrison, NJ. The team’s 2010 Golden Boot winner has not appeared for the Fire since the club’s 2-2 draw vs. San Jose on May 28.

LOGAN PAUSE CHASING FIRE HISTORY Nine-year Chicago Fire veteran Logan Pause tied Jesse Marsch for fourth on the club’s all-time regular season appearance list with his 200th match coming on March 26 vs. Sporting KC. The Fire captain then took sole possession of the fourth spot with his appearance in the club’s 2-1 loss to Seattle on April 9. Having averaged a minimum of 21 matches in each of his nine years with the club, if Pause’s form holds true for this season, he will move into second all-time in Fire regular season appearances. Next up in the captain’s sites is the player he modeled himself after, Chris Armas, who appeared in 214 regular season matches for the club from 1998-07. Below see the “Big Five” when it comes to Fire MLS and All Competitions appearances, along with their yearly averages of games played. The new manager brought in a new system to the club, while welcoming in Designated Players in Mexican striker Nery Castillo and Swedish winger Freddie Ljungberg. Despite the acquisitions, de los Cobos’ side came up just short of the 2010 MLS playoffs, missing the postseason for just the second time in club history. At season’s end, two legendary players announced their retirement, with the Fire bidding goodbye to U.S. giant Brian McBride and the last remaining “Fire Original”, defender C.J. Brown who spent all 13 seasons of his MLS career in the Windy City, appearing in 371 matches for the club across all competitions. FIRE PRESEASON NOTES In preparation for the 2011 MLS season, the Chicago Fire broke up the club’s preseason into three phases, the initial of which saw the side spend two weeks at the Bridgeview Soccer & Sports Dome – the first instance in 14 seasons the club has spent an extended amount of time training in Chicagoland. The team then spent 12 days in Ave Maria, FL, training and paying a visit to the club’s Juniors organization based in Naples while fitting in three friendlies. After a brief return to Chicago, the team set off for Phase 3 of preseason, making the club’s debut appearance in the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charleston, SC. The Fire joined fellow MLS sides DC United and Toronto FC as well as tournament hosts, USL-Pro’s Charleston Battery in the four-team round robin tournament.

PROBABLE STARTERS 6/22 v CHICAGO FIRE

RSL (4-4-2 diamond, R L): GK: Rimando

DF: Russell, Olave, Borchers, Beltran; MF: Beckerman; Grabavoy, Johnson, Warner;

FW: Espíndola, Alexandre

MIDWEEK TRIP TO MIDWAY: Real Salt Lake has

earned a win or tie in five of its last six games against the Fire, sweeping last year‟s two-game series between the sides with a pair of 1-0 victories … The all-time series is very tight, as eight of the last nine games contested between RSL and Chicago have been decided by one goal or less … All-time, RSL is 3-5-4 vs Chicago, with last year’s 1-0 win the lone road victory for Jason Kreis‟ team, which is 1-3-2 at Toyota Park or Soldier Field … Real Salt Lake‟s midweek trip to Chicago is the second of 4 games in 11 days across MLS and Open Cup play and precedes a return to its Rio Tinto Stadium “Fortress” to kick off a run Saturday where five of its next six games and 6 out of 8 will be played at home … On top of that stretch, RSL will host at least one additional game in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tourney, on June 28 v Tuesday‟s Charlotte/Wilmington winner …

While RSL no longer boasts the two-year undefeated streaks at Rio Tinto Stadium, it has dropped just 5 of its 61 home games (MLS/CCL/playoff) since the start of the 2008 season (38-5-18), outscoring opponents 117-39 … Wednesday’s game between RSL and Chicago kicks off at 6:30 p.m. MT and will air live statewide on KMYU 2.2 / Comcast 22 / Dish 12 and also on RSL‟s official radio partners – ESPN 700 Sports Radio and ESPN Deportes 1600 AM / Juan 106.1 FM …

RSL INJURY REPORT (as of 6/20/11)

OUT: MF Javier Morales (L ankle fracture dislocation);

DOUBTFUL: FW Paulo Jr. (L hamstring strain); DF Chris Wingert (R hamstring strain); MF Arturo Alvarez (R hamstring strain)

QUESTIONABLE: n/a

PROBABLE: FW Jean Alexandre (L hamstring spasms)

TIME TO MAKE A MOVE: While Real Salt Lake has

played fewer games to this point than any other Major League Soccer side, the next 12 games (6 home, 6 away) in June/July/August will define the campaign for Jason Kreis’ side, which has battled key injuries, Gold Cup absences and CONCACAF Champions League disappointment since late April … Of the next 12 MLS opponents, only 3 have a winning record entering this week (7/9 v DAL; 7/23 v SJ; 8/6 v NY), while one team is an even .500 (7/30 v CLB) … RSL faces all of those sides at home, while the remaining eight foes are currently sub-.500 squads (@CHI, TOR, NE, @VAN, @KC, @TOR, @HOU and @CHV) … Following this stretch, RSL will play only four of its final nine games of the season at home, with five very difficult road contests @ SEA, @NY, @DC, @LA and @COL …

GOLD CUP CONTINGENT BACK IN MLS FOLD:

Upon completion of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinal stage, RSL MF Will Johnson (Canada) was the first player among the four RSL Gold Cup reps to return to RSL, playing the final 24 minutes Saturday … FW Alvaro Saborio (Costa Rica) and M/F Arturo Alvarez (El Salvador) each saw their nations lose in PK shootouts on the weekend, returning to Utah on Monday … Their status for Wednesday‟s game in Chicago is TBD …

ESPINDOLA ASSUMES CREATIVE MANTLE: RSL

Head Coach Jason Kreis has continually praised FW Fabian Espíndola for stepping up and assuming the team‟s creative mantle in the absence of teammate and close friend Javier Morales since the RSL talisman‟s devastating injury … Saturday vs. D.C. United Espindola tallied his third goal in the last four games and his team-high fourth of the season with a 38‟ PK after a United handball in the box … The goal was Fabian’s team-leading fourth of the year – in just 9 games – and the 20

th of his RSL career, vaulting him into sole

possession of 2nd

place in the RSL scoring annals with Jeff Cunningham, now 9 behind leader Robbie Findley (29) … Espíndola is past halfway to his career season-high total of six goals scored in 22 games last year, and has matched his output of three goals in 22 games during RSL‟s Cup-winning 2009 campaign … The fiesty Argentine scored twice in nine appearances during RSL’s 2010/11 CCL run, and had a blistering effort to open last year‟s MLS Cup Playoffs at Dallas, his only career postseason goal in 8 appearances …

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?: RSL Assistant

Coach C.J. IRON MAN BORCHERS REACHES CENTURY

MARK: 2010 MLS Best XI DF Nat Borchers made his

100th regular-season appearance for RSL in Saturday‟s

controversial 1-1 draw with D.C. United … Earlier this year, both DF Chris Wingert (111) and MF Kyle Beckerman (105) surpassed the century mark for the Claret-and-Cobalt … With 22 games remaining this season, DF Jamison Olave (currently at 84 appearances) and MF Javier Morales (93) have a shot at joining this exclusive club, of which MF Andy Williams and GK Nick Rimando (122) are already members … Borchers has played a full 90 minutes in 11 of the team‟s 13 MLS matches and 5 of the 6 CCL games this Spring … Borchers has amassed a minimum of 2600 minutes each of the last three regular seasons, now appearing in 100 of a possible 103 league games since arriving on the Wasatch Front in 2008, sitting out only 4/9 @ NE and 6/8 @ CLB this year … Borchers has also started all nine MLS Cup Playoff games for RSL the last three seasons, played in all three US Open Cup matches and in 10 of the 12 CCL games …

“IRON MAN TWO” JOHNSON RETURNS: RSL MF

Will Johnson was again available for selection Saturday, playing the final 24 minutes against D.C. after his Canadian Gold Cup stint … RSL went 1-1-1 in the trio of games without the midfield engine, who has appeared in 84 of RSL‟s 93 games played since his arrival in August, 2008, missing 9 games due to Canada duty … Johnson was one of two players to appear in all 12 of RSL‟s CONCACAF Champions League games (MF Ned Grabavoy), and has averaged 85 minutes per appearance throughout his RSL career …

ALEXANDRE THE GREAT (CITIZEN): RSL MF-

turned-FW Jean Alexandre responded to his Week 12 MLS Player of the Week award – recognizing his 1-goal, 1-assist night on June 4 v VAN, his first-ever appearance on an MLS scoresheet – by winning a ball at midfield against Philadelphia (the RSL clearance of a dangerous PHI corner by DF Jamison Olave) and springing Espindola through the Union defense for his second career assist on June 11 … With the weekly honor, Alexandre joined RSL MF Javier Morales, who won the award back in Week 2, on the 2011 list, which boasts 14 different players in as many weeks during the season‟s first three months … Alexandre‟s first-half goal marked the first time RSL found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes since April 9 @ NE – a feat matched June 8 at Columbus – with the game at the Revolution also the last time Jason Kreis‟ team scored multiple goals … On Wednesday, the Haitian-born Alexandre was sworn in as a U.S. citizen, and followed up his big week with his first-ever 90-minute performance up top Saturday v DC …

DEFENSE STILL DOMINATES … : Led by GK Nick

Rimando, the 2010 MLS Best XI center-back pairing of DF Nat Borchers and DF Jamison Olave and Captain Kyle Beckerman, the vaunted RSL defense has allowed one goal or fewer in 11 of its 13 MLS games this season, allowing just 8 goals thus far, including two on PKs … Last year, RSL allowed just 20 goals in the 30-game regular season, setting a new standard in MLS annals and breaking the 2007 Houston Dynamo record … Rimando recorded his 80

th career shutout on June 4 v

VAN, 44 of which have now come in the RSL Claret-and-Cobalt … Rimando has six of RSL‟s seven MLS clean sheets in 2011 (Reynish, April 9 @ NE) … Rimando also had two shutouts in CONCACAF play earlier this year at Columbus and v Saprissa … Rimando‟s shutout streak was snapped at 409 minutes May 28 v SEA, the 3

rd

longest current run in MLS this season (Hartman, DAL, 513; Hesmer, CLB, 414) …

… WHILE ATTACK HAS BEEN LACKING:

However, RSL has scored only 7 goals in the 7 games played since MF Javier Morales went down, after scoring a league-high 45 goals in 2010 … Joining Morales in the infirmary since late April has been FW Paulo Jr. (9 games) and FW Fabian Espindola (2 games), while FW Alvaro Saborio (6 games), FW Arturo Alvarez (6 games) and MF Will Johnson (4 games) have been unavailable due to Gold Cup …

ROAD OPTIMISM: Despite the late collapse at

Columbus and the difficult start at Philadelphia, Real Salt Lake – once the worst road team in the history of MLS – has earned points in 14 of its last 17 road games – the equivalent of an entire season – dating back to May, 2010 … The road forays have been low-scoring, as RSL has outscored opponents 14-12 goals in that span – while Jason Kreis‟ team has dropped just six of its last 27 overall if you include CONCACAF and MLS Cup Playoff road matches (and one loss, April 5 at Saprissa, still clinched the series for RSL) …

This recent advent of road success – marred by the playoff loss @DAL, yet enhanced by road results @ Columbus, @ Saprissa and @ Monterrey in CCL play – marked the team‟s first-ever nine-game undefeated streak away from home and places the squad‟s all-time regular season road mark at 16-57-24 (.259; 89 GF / 164 GA) … Since Kreis took over, RSL‟s MLS road mark is 12-33-19, with the four road wins in 2010 doubling the two earned in each of the 2007-09 seasons … Six games down (2-2-2, 8 pts), 11 to go in 2011 …

RSL’s EX-CHICAGOANS: While the Fire has no

connections to RSL‟s roster, six members of the RSL family have ties to either the Chicagoland area or the Fire … Assistant Coach C.J. Brown‟s Fire legendary Fire career is well-documented, and will be honored at Toyota Park on Wednesday … Woodridge, Ill. native MF Will Johnson began his professional career at the age of 18 as a member of the Fire, playing in six contests (1 goal in 162 min.) during the 2005 campaign … Chicago was the last stop in the once-nomadic career of MF Andy Williams, as the Jamaican notched 6 goals and 16 assists for the Fire across the 2003-04 seasons, leading the squad in assists during both years of his stay (7 in 2003, 9 in 2004) … MF Ned Grabavoy rose to prominence during a standout career for Lincoln-Way central H.S. in south suburban New Lenox, where he claimed several honors, including the 2000 Gatorade H.S. Player of the Year award as a senior … DF Chris Schuler, who has provided depth on the back line in MLS and CCL play during his first two seasons, is an Aurora, IL native, whose sister plays for Northern Illinois and comes from the same Chicago Magic club as Grabavoy and RSL GM Garth Lagerwey … Lagerwey is a native of Elmhurst, IL, and played for both the Chicago Magic club team and was a two-time all-state selection as a goalkeeper for York High School …

BOMMA’S FIRE FUELS RSL ATTACK: The lone

remaining “RSL Original,” Williams returns to Chicago to face the Fire, the team he once called his own in the 2003 and 2004 seasons … “Bomma” appeared in 45 regular-season games for Chicago, starting 37, and scored 6 goals while assisting on 16 others … The former captain of the Jamaican National Team, Williams started all four games of the Fire‟s 2003 MLS Cup run, scoring one goal (11/01, series winner in 4-0 aggregate victory over D.C. United) and assisting on another, in the 49

th minute of the

Fire‟s 2-4 MLS Cup loss to San Jose at The Home Depot Center …

RSL HISTORY v. FIRE: RSL – which broke the MLS

home unbeaten streak record last Fall with a 1-0 home win over Chicago – now owns a 3-5-4 overall regular-season record and a two-game win streak against the Fire, breaking a seven-game winless streak against the “Men in Red” last July when a late first-half Robbie Findley PK stood up for a 1-0 win … RSL‟s lone previous win over the Fire came back on June 3, 2006, when Jeff Cunningham’s brace and a Dasan Robinson own goal helped the Utahns to a 3-1 triumph on the Rice-Eccles Stadium turf …

SIGHTS NOW SET ON U.S. OPEN CUP: Last

Wednesday, RSL discovered one of its potential paths back to the CONCACAF Champions League, as the team received word it would host a Round of 16 match in the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 28 against the winner of the June 21 match between the Charlotte Eagles and the Wilmington Hammerheads … RSL advanced automatically into the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 by virtue of its #2 overall MLS regular-season finish last year … For the first time since 2006, RSL did not have to participate in MLS “qualifiers” for the Open Cup … Due to the team‟s CCL run this Spring, along with the new 34-game MLS regular season and the Open Cup advancement, RSL is guaranteed to play at least 41 games during the 2011 calendar year before the playoffs, one shy of last year‟s club-record total of 42 games played …Should RSL win its Open Cup match on the 28

th of this month, the 2011 LHUSOC

QuarterFinals will be held on July 12 – sites/times TBD … RSL's all-time record in Open Cup-related games is 3-6-1, but seven of those matches have been MLS qualifiers to play into the tourney … RSL has posted a 1-1-1 mark in actual Open Cup matches, losing 4-6 at Minnesota in 2005 before defeating Virginia Beach 2-1 in 120 minutes and falling 0-1 to the Colorado Rapids in 2006 …

MAYDAY, MAYDAY: 12-MONTH RUN OF

SUCCESS ON MULTIPLE FRONTS: Despite the pair

of difficult 0-1 losses vs. Monterrey and at Portland in the final week of April, Real Salt Lake performed exceptionally in the 45 games played between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011, losing only six times in that stretch, the rough equivalent of a season-and-a-half … Across MLS regular season, MLS Cup Playoff and CONCACAF Champions League games, Jason Kreis‟ team posted an impressive mark of 26-6-13 and outscored opponents 75-33 since May 1, 2010 … RSL would have earned 91 points in this stretch … The MLS equivalents: (reg.-season games only) TEAM GAME 1 GAME 45 PTS

Los Angeles Galaxy 7/04/1997 9/02/1998 95

D.C. United 5/21/2005 7/22/2006 91

Chicago Fire 6/04/2000 9/01/2001 90

Prior to last April 30 at Portland, the lone MLS losses both came on the road at Dallas on July 17 and Oct. 30, sandwiched around the bizarre 4-5 loss at Cruz Azul … The fourth loss was the 1-2 decision at Saprissa which enabled RSL to advance to the CCL Final … RSL then dropped the 0-1 home game to Monterrey to snap the 37-game “all-competition” Rio Tinto Stadium streak …

REAL SALT LAKE @ CHICAGO FIRE – WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22, 2011

YOUNG BOYS STEP UP, SEIZE THE DAY: The

void caused by injury, national team duty and suspension allows opportunity for several of RSL‟s younger players to get quality minutes with the first team, as DF Chris Schuler, MF Nelson Gonzalez and MF Collen Warner are obvious choices, along with newly-minted target forward – and Week 12 MLS Player of the Week – Jean Alexandre … Gonzalez‟ goal against Seattle on May 28 – his second MLS goal and third in an RSL uniform – was set up by teen phenom Luis Gil, who has impressed at U.S. U-18 and U-20 camps this year in addition to his RSL duty … Gil received his first-ever MLS start June 11 at Philadelphia, playing 83 minutes in his 6

th MLS game

… Gil had also started and played 45 minutes in the 3-1 home win over Cruz Azul last October, while his most extensive previous experience in an RSL uniform prior to that CCL game was his final 15 minutes in the Open Cup qualifier at D.C. United last June, won by D.C. 2-1 …

REINFORCEMENTS UP TOP: On May 27, in light of

the Gold Cup call-ups (Alvarez, Saborio) and injuries to RSL attackers (Paulo Jr., Espindola, Toia), RSL announced the signing of FW Artur Aghasyan, who like his cousin, former RSL FW Yura Movsisyan, wears jersey #14, dressed vs. Seattle on May 28 and played final 19 minutes last week at Philadelphia …

GOLD CUP ABSENCES AFFECT RSL: Four

members of the Real Salt Lake roster – Arturo Alvarez (El Salvador), Will Johnson (Canada), Nick Rimando (United States) and Álvaro Saborío (Costa Rica) – were named to their respective national team rosters in advance of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, taking place across the United States from June 5-25 … Arturo Alvarez – El Salvador

Alvarez joins the El Salvador National Team for the third time in 2011, following his five appearances for La Selecta in January‟s Copa Centroamericana – during which he helped El Salvador qualify for the Gold Cup via a fourth-place finish in the seven-team field – and in a pair of friendlies at Cuba and against Jamaica in late March … The 25-year-old product of the U.S. Youth National Team system has now registered 16 “caps” in the white-and-blue of El Salvador since making his debut for the side in 2009 … Did not play Sunday vs Mexico due to hamstring injury … Despite a return to training, did not see action against RSL teammate Saborio and Costa Rica … Played 25 minutes and scored team‟s 5th goal against Cuba and played final 55 minutes Sunday against Panama before seeing La Selecta eliminated on PKs … El Salvador Gold Cup Schedule (Group A) June 5 – 0 : 5 Mexico – Cowboys Stadium / Arlington, TX – 6:00 p.m. MT June 9 – 1 : 1 Costa Rica – BA Stadium / Charlotte, NC – 5:00 p.m. MT June 12 – 6 : 1 Cuba – Soldier Field / Chicago, IL – 4:00 p.m. MT June 19 – 1 : 1 Panama (ES loses on PKs, 4-5)

Will Johnson – Canada

At just the age of 24, Johnson has recently become a mainstay in the Canadian first-choice line-up, earning 15 caps for the Maple Leafs since his senior team debut at the age of 18 back in November 2005. Johnson‟s most recent appearances for Canada both came on the European continent, as the midfielder earned starting nods for coach Stephen Hart‟s side in friendlies at Greece on Feb. 9 (0-1 L) and against Belarus in Turkey on March 29 (1-0 W) … Johnson started and played 64 minutes, earning a yellow card, in Canada‟s 0-2 loss to the U.S. last week night … Johnson played 90 minutes in each of Canada‟s subsequent two group games, suffering a crushing challenge in the 4th minute against Guadeloupe that saw a red card issued by the referee and setting up DeRosario‟s penalty with a headed cross into the box against Panama … Canada Gold Cup Schedule (Group C) June 7 – 0 : 2 United States – Ford Field / Detroit, MI – 6:00 p.m. MT June 11 – 1 : 0 Guadeloupe – Raymond James / Tampa, FL – 4:00 p.m. MT June 14 – 1 : 1 Panama – Livestrong Park / Kansas City, KS – 5:00 p.m. MT

Nick Rimando – United States

Thanks to his standout performances for the Claret-and-Cobalt in recent seasons, Rimando has become Bradley‟s MLS-based goalkeeper of choice following a six-year hiatus from national team duty … The 31-year-old‟s most recent cap – his fifth for the Red, White & Blue – came back on Jan. 22, when he notched a shutout first 45 minutes in the USA‟s 1-1 draw with Chile in a friendly at The Home Depot Center, following his stint in the USA‟s annual January training camp in Southern California … Rimando, one of seven MLS players on the 23-man USA Gold Cup roster, has compiled a 2-0-0 record and 0.29 GAA (1 goal allowed in 315 minutes) in his five contests with the U.S.‟s senior side … United States Gold Cup Schedule (Group C) June 7 – 2 : 0 Canada – Ford Field / Detroit, MI – 6:00 p.m. MT June 11 – 1 : 2 Panama – Raymond James Stadium / Tampa, FL – 6:00 p.m. MT June 14 – 1 : 0 Guadeloupe – Livestrong Park / Kansas City – 7:00 p.m. MT June 19 – 2 : 0 Jamaica – RFK Stadium / Washington D.C. – 1:00 p.m. MT

Álvaro Saborío – Costa Rica

A focal point in attack for the Ticos for several years, Saborío‟s international resume continues to grow having bagged 22 goals across 64 appearances at the senior level since his debut in 2004 … A veteran of both the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 World Cup, Saborío recently celebrated his 29th birthday in style by scoring the first-ever goal in the inaugural match at the new Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose during a friendly against China on March 26 … His most recent cap came three days later at Estadio Nacional, when he logged the full 90 minutes against global powerhouse Argentina in a 0-0 draw … Scored 2nd of 5 Costa Rica goals in last Sunday‟s 5-0 win over Cuba, finding back of net in 41‟ after hitting woodwork and seeing apparent goal disallowed due to offside in one-way first half vs. Cubans … Removed from game after 70 minutes … Started and played a full 90, seeing another goal disallowed – much to his disbelief – in Thursday‟s 1-1 draw with El Salvador, in a game in which Sabo narrowly missed several opportunities … Started and played full 90 minutes in 1-4 loss to Mexico, seeing very little of the ball … Saturday vs Honduras in New Jersey, Saborio saw his 78‟ PK attempt saved by the Catrachos „keeper, and then saw his PK attempt in the shootout tiebreaker slam off the crossbar, eliminating the Ticos …

Costa Rica Gold Cup Schedule (Group A)

TIME FOR A NEW STREAK: In Major League

Soccer‟s 16-year history, there have been 25 double-digit unbeaten regular-season streaks for its teams … Real Salt Lake’s historic 2010 season saw the squad amass runs of both 10 and 14 games, with the mid-April win vs. Colorado extending the latter streak to 18 games without a loss, one of the top three streaks in MLS history, just one game shy of matching the League standard … A year ago, FC Dallas matched the Columbus Crew’s 19-game run by not losing for 4 ½ months, then saw it crash to a halt by dropping an 0-2 decision at Rio Tinto Stadium … Dallas had the last laugh, however, ousting RSL in the teams‟ first-round MLS Cup Playoff matchup with a 3-2 aggregate win in October … The list:

SEEING RED, BUT TO LITTLE ADVANTAGE:

Back on May 7, Real Salt Lake saw an opponent hit with multiple red cards for the third time in the team’s 190-game MLS regular-season history, with the 65-minute span with at least a one-man advantage the longest in club annals … For an incredible amount of 49 minutes, RSL enjoyed a TWO-MAN advantage over Chivas USA, playing 11-v-9 in deadlocked fashion prior to Will Johnson’s victory-clinching goal in the 87

th minute … On only one

prior occasion – Oct. 18, 2008, in the 2nd

-ever game at Rio Tinto Stadium – had RSL enjoyed a 2-man advantage over its opponent, but that was just for stoppage time of the team‟s 3-1 victory over FC Dallas, a game known primarily for Johnson‟s 2008 MLS Goal of the Year blast …

OTHER RED CARD MISCELLANY: In its history, RSL

has never played with just nine men due to disciplinary issues, and has even scored FIVE short-handed goals (Jason Kreis, 7/4/05 v. NY; Chris Klein & Kreis, 9/16/06 v. DAL; a Chris Leitch own-goal on 7/3/09 v. SJ; and Nelson Gonzalez late goal on 5/28/11 v. SEA) … On 25 occasions, RSL opponents have been subject to ejection, giving the Claret-and-Cobalt a total of 424 minutes with a man-advantage … During those minutes, RSL has seen a +9 goal difference … On the other hand, RSL has been victim of 29 red cards, succumbing to a -9 goal difference in a total of 569 minutes playing a man down … Incredibly, SIX of those nine goals came in one game, the 0-6 loss @NY in August 2006 when DF Jack Stewart was tossed in the 8

th minute

… in that game, RSL made it to halftime tied 0-0, but allowed an Edson Buddle hat trick in a 21-minute span of the 2

nd half, with another three goals scored during the

final 45 minutes …

VICTORY … ERR, EQUALITY GOLD KITS?: RSL

wore its so-called “Victory Gold” 3rd

kits for the fourth time in team history at Dallas on May 22, earning road draws on each occasion … Last year, RSL drew 1-1 @ KC and 1-1 @ PHI in a pair of August games in the Real Gold uniforms, while in this season‟s lone previous display of sartorial splendor, Jason Kreis‟ team drew 2-2 at Monterrey in the first leg of the 2010/11 CCL Final … Expect to see the “Equality Gold” kits in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play and perhaps on the late September trip to New York and Washington, D.C. …

RSL “BRACING” FOR SUCCESS: With MF Javier

Morales‟ two-goal „brace‟ on March 26 vs LA, RSL has now seen 18 of its 27 multi-goal performances occur at home in its 194-game MLS regular-season game and 12-game CCL history … Morales trails Álvaro Saborío and Jeff Cunningham (both at 5) and ties Robbie Findley with four “braces,” while Yura Movsisyan (2) and one each by Paulo Junior, Will Johnson, Kyle Beckerman, Jason Kreis, Atiba Harris, Chris Brown and Fabian Espíndola have also scored 2 or more times in a game … When an RSL player scores 2 or more goals in a game, the team has posted a 19-2-4 all-time mark … Besides the 4-5 loss at Cruz Azul, when was the lone MLS loss? … June 17, 2007, when Chris Brown‟s brace @LA was wasted in a 2-3 loss: G Player Date Opponent Result

*CONCACAF Champions League

HOW DOES RSL GET BACK IN?: RSL probably

won‟t play another international side – exhibition or otherwise – until the 2012/13 CONCACAF tourney, which it could only qualify for through the following domestic-based mechanisms: U.S. Open Cup winner, 2011 MLS Supporters Shield winner, or MLS Cup 2011 participant … Had RSL defeated Dallas in last year‟s MLS Cup Playoff series, or even had Los Angeles advanced in place of Dallas to MLS Cup – RSL would have qualified for this year‟s CONCACAF Champions League due to LA essentially owning “dual” slots (Supp. Shield / Cup participant) and RSL finishing #2 in last year‟s overall MLS table …

KREIS CONTRACT EXTENDED THRU 2013: On

March 24, RSL President Bill Manning and GM Garth Lagerwey announced that the club has extended by two years the contract of current Head Coach Jason Kreis, keeping the youngest MLS Cup-winning manager in League history on the RSL sideline through the completion of the 2013 season … All-time, Kreis now owns a 53-44-37 mark in MLS regular-season, playoff and CONCACAF Champions League play …

Under Kreis‟ leadership, RSL became the first-ever MLS team (and one of just three non-Mexican teams) to win a CONCACAF group, posting a 4-1-1 mark and becoming the first-ever MLS side to advance CCL Final … The former striker‟s 2010 side was also the second-highest-scoring team in CONCACAF‟s group stage, with 17 goals in six games (2.83 goals/game) … During MLS play in 2010, the following numbers established by RSL set or tied new single-season league standards: fewest goals allowed (20), overall goal differential (+25), total home points (37), fewest home losses (0) and fewest home goals allowed (7). In addition to those league benchmarks, last year‟s edition set franchise-high records in wins (15), goals (45), scoring output (1.50/game), points (56), shutouts (15), road points (19) and road goal differential (+1) …

RSL’S INTERNATIONAL HISTORY: With the late

April 0-1 loss to Monterrey in the 2010/11 CONCACAF Final, RSL is now 12-7-6 all-time in international contests, with a positive goal differential (43 goals for / 33 goals against) … In meaningful int‟l competition, RSL is now 6-3-3 (26 GF / 17 GA) … In the Jason Kreis era, RSL falls to 8-3-2 vs. visiting international squads (does NOT include Toronto FC league matches; however, DOES include CCL games vs Columbus) …

FORTRESS STOOD STRONG FOR FORTY-TWO:

With RSL‟s 1-2 loss at home May 28 against Seattle, the team saw its MLS home unbeaten streak perish at 29 games … Just a month earlier on April 27, the 0-1 CCL loss to Monterrey (MEX) last week snapped the club’s overall home unbeaten run at 37 games across MLS, CCL and exhibition play … While those two losses in a one-month span dropped RSL to 5-1-0 at home in CONCACAF play, the team remains 21-1-10 in MLS regular season, 1-0-1 playoffs and 2-0-1 in international exhibitions … The aggregate scoreline in those games?: 80-22 …

telecast went to multiple commercial breaks during Elder Gonzalez‟ lengthy “consecration” of the field, much to the disdain of current Rapids‟ coach Gary Smith … RSL‟s all-time home mark PRIOR to Elder Gonzalez' "consecration" – just 25-21-19 … AFTER Elder Gonzalez' June 6, 2009 prayer at Rio Tinto Stadium – now 29 wins, 1 loss, 12 ties … Real Salt Lake Year-by-Year Home Results (Regular Season) 2005: 5-8-3 (.406) 18 pts. 19 GF / 24 GA (-5 GD) 2006: 6-4-6 (.563) 24 pts. 23 GF / 19 GA (+4 GD) 2007: 4-7-4 (.400) 16 pts. 18 GF / 22 GA (-4 GD) 2008: 8-1-6 (.733) 30 pts. 24 GF / 10 GA (+14 GD) 2009: 9-1-5 (.750) 32 pts. 34 GF / 11 GA (+23 GD) 2010: 11-0-4 (.867) 37 pts. 31 GF / 7 GA (+24 GD) 2011: 4-1-2 (.714) 14 pts. 10 GF / 4 GA (+6 GD) CAREER: 47-22-30 (.626) 159 GF / 97 GA (+62 GD)

Including the recent 29-game MLS unbeaten streak at Rio Tinto Stadium, RSL has dropped just 5 of its last 61 home games (38-5-18) across MLS regular season / playoff and CONCACAF play dating back to the start of 2008 … Prior to that, RSL was 15-19-13 on Utah soil in MLS competition, with a -5 goal differential (60 GF / 65 GA) from 2005-07 … The 2010 RSL side was just the 2
