Indirect Object Pronouns
Reviewing Direct Object Pronouns On previous chapters we have learned about Direct
Object Pronouns. They are: Lo, La, Los, Las, Me, Te, Nos They substitute the direct object (NOT THE SUBJECT)
on a sentence. They always come BEFORE the verb unless there are
two verbs together in the sentence. They answer the question “What?” or “Who”.Ex: Maria compra la camiseta/Maria la compra. Frida colecciona los animales de peluche/ Frida los
colecciona. Marcos llama a Carlos y yo. / Marcos nos llama.
Indirect Object Pronouns
In English … The Indirect Object follows the verb just as a Direct
Object does. But the function of an Indirect Object is different. Instead of being the object of the action of the verb as a Direct Object is, the Indirect Object is the person or thing to whom or for whom the action is performed
- I write a letter (direct object) to my friend (indirect object)
- I bought a sweater (direct object) for Jennifer (indirect object)
- She borrowed a CD (direct object) from me (indirect object)
Continuing…
Let's look at an example:
I give a ticket to the crazed driver.
Let's take a look at the components of the sentence:
I the subject (the person for whom we conjugate the verb)
give the verb [transitive] (transfers action to an object -requires an object)
a ticket direct object (receives the action of TO GIVE) - it's what is given.
(to) the crazed driver
the indirect object (this is to whom the ticket is given)
Now, let’s substitute the indirect object with a pronoun:
I give him a ticket

an action is performed. They are used to replace or accompany an indirect object noun. They are:
Let’s look at some examples: - Mi abuela no me permitia comer galletas para el
almuerzo. - Su mamá siempre le daba regalos (a Juanito). - Yo les compraba regalos (a los niños). - Nos enviaba cartas todos los veranos.
ME (to / for) me
NOS (to/for) us
TE (to/for) you
LE (to/for) him, her , you
LES (to/for) them, you all
