@Drummond_CHS

Welcome

@Drummond_CHS

We’ve changed our curriculum model to offer S4 pupils the opportunity to study seven National Qualifications. Pupils in S5 and S6 can still study five Highers. We are also running more Advanced Highers than ever before.

We offer the full range of subjects at National 5 and Higher levels, from Art & Design to Drama to all three Sciences to Graphic Communication to Spanish, and everything in between.

We have invested heavily in iPads for all pupils and upgrading the ICT across the classrooms with Smartboards.

PUPIL’S VIEW...@DrummondVoice@Drummond_CHS

“It has been great to meet and work with pupils from Drummond. The teachers there are engaging with really current issues and DCHS pupils hold their own in debating and responding to complex problems across the spectrum for science/engineering to social issues: they are well-prepared for a university experience! The pupils are also confident and self-aware; proud of their school; and more than anything else, interested in the world around them.”

What the statistics don’t show are the amazing and unique opportunities Drummond pupils have in all areas of the curriculum such as partnering with the Lyceum Theatre for Arabian Nights and the Fruitmarket Art Gallery; engineering and architectural experience with Laing O’ Rourke and Design Engineer Construct! at the St James’ Centre; engineering scholarships with The Arkwright

Trust; residential programmes at Yale University with The Sutton Trust. So whether your child wants to be a forensic detective, astro physicist, graphic designer, architect, illustrator, lawyer, teacher, dancer, actor, environmental scientist or just wants to be encouraged and supported to do their best and keep all options open, Drummond is the school of choice for local families.

This year our

A BUSINESS PARTNER’S VIEW...@classofyourown

“Our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) relationship with Drummond is going from strength to strength. The school’s approach to the Design, Engineer, Construct! learning programme has been inspiring, and the positive outcomes are showing in their pupils, whose technical skill and knowledge, not to mention key employability skills, is already setting them apart. The pupils clearly enjoy their time with their teachers, and as a visitor, it’s very hard to leave the classroom. The learning is tangible and the enthusiasm infectious. These are teachers that need celebrating for their commitment to developing their young people’s academic and employability skills. We are delighted and honoured to partner with such a fantastic school.”

Alison Watson, CEO, COYO

“Our experience working closely with the Design Engineer Construct! (DEC!) students at Drummond Community High School has been rewarding for all involved, with students choosing to spend a week of work experience on the Edinburgh St James project. During their time with the project, the students will understand more about key disciplines such as design, planning, engineering and logistics. Our team has been impressed by the students’ interest in the built environment, as well as the softer skills that the DEC! course encourages the students to develop such as research, presentation skills and confidence.”

Joanna Vezey, Head of Talent, Inclusion and Social Sustainability, Laing O’Rourke

PARENT COUNCIL’S VIEW...@DCHSparents

“There’s a positive atmosphere with fantastic, committed teachers, dedicated to helping pupils achieve to the best of their abilities. Pupils are encouraged to believe that they can succeed, and are given opportunities to shine.”

“Through attending Parent Council meetings, I’ve seen how the school is quick to respond to concerns from parents and encourages parents to take an active role in their children’s education. Pupils are pushed to achieve all they can. The school works with businesses and universities to provide opportunities for everyone. All in all, Drummond is a fantastic school and a great place to be part of.”

“Drummond caters for a wide range of academic abilities. Academically able pupils are helped to flourish and encouraged to compete in national competitions. Drummond’s friendly atmosphere and enthusiastic staff ensure everyone achieves their full potential at National level, Higher and Advanced Higher.”
