How to be a good friend to a person with

cancerDo...•Offer your presence often and be a good listener when they are ready to talk.

•Laugh together.

•Say “I love you” and be yourself.

•Respect how they choose to deal with their cancer.

•Tell them about the support, education, and hope they can find at The Wellness Community.

Don’t...•Tell them that everything’s going to be okay because you don’t know.

•Tell them you know how they feel because you probably don’t.

•Be afraid to admit that you don’t know what to say when you really are at a loss for words.

•Hesitate to call them or leave a message to let them know you’re thinking of them.

•Avoid the subject of cancer if that’s what they really want to talk about.

About Programs

Programs are offered free of charge in our home-like setting. We have been able to offer free programs of cancer support, education and hope through the generous support of individuals, corporation grants & foundations and through year-round special fundraising events. We don't receive any financial support through government funding, insurance nor the American Cancer Society.

Programs are available to participants with cancer, family and friends. For dates and locations of the Programs and Services at Cancer Support

We are always in need of volunteers for our health fairs, "Welcome Meetings" leaders, and other activities! We are also looking for help in our office during the week (i.e. answering phone calls, assisting with clerical duties, etc.).

If you are interested in helping The Cancer Support Community as a volunteer, please call Nida at (310) 376-3550.

Your support through one or more of the giving opportunities listed above is critical to help CSC-RB provide a place where cancer patients can receive the tools and support necessary to become powerful partners in their fight for recovery.
