REBUILDING OAXACA, MEXICO

On September 7, 2017, a major 8.2 magnitude earthquake shook the already poverty stricken states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, México, devas-

tating many communities. Hundreds of people lost their lives, their homes, their loved ones

and their entire livelihood.

On September 19, 2017, a second major 7.1 magnitude earthquake once again shook Mex-ico, this time devastating parts of Mexico City,

the states of Puebla, Morelos and again the state of Oaxaca, where every single day they

are experiencing after-shocks.

The immediate solidarity of all Mexicans to help in the relief effort, rescuing peo-

ple trapped under buildings, preparing food for first responders and volunteers, sending

canned goods, water, medicines, construction material, blankets and clothes to every state

and community affected, has been inspir-ing and has set as an example internationally,

moving hearts the world over asking to see how they too can join in the rebuilding of the

lives of thousands of people.

WE NOW NEED TO REBUILD

OAXACA AND WE NEED

YOUR HELP!

Fundación Origen Pro Ayuda a la Mujer, Fundacion Échale a tu Casa! and The Internation-al Community Foundation (ICF) have joined forces through an alliance and together, with your help, we will achieve this goal!

For 18 years, Fundación Origen has estab-lished and run Community Intervention Programs in Mexico, Echale a tu Casa has over 20 years of experience in building homes with the direct involvement of the communities, and ICF is an international charitable organization focused on inter-national giving from US Donors to mean-ingful projects in Mexico and Latin America.

OUR GOAL• Through an integral comprehensive model, we are committing to rebuild a county in Oaxaca and all its municipalities. We will help these communities rebuild their homes, while strength-ening the social structure with a long-term human and economic development program.

REBUILDING HOMES + REBUILDING SOCIAL STRUCTURES = RESILENT COMMUNITIES

• ICF will aid in connecting US donors with this meaningful cause.

• Rebuilding will be carried out by Échale a tu casa! using their model of teaching and guiding teams of neighbors to pool their labor and collectively make bricks and then build their homes. Échale’s social franchise replication model is also community-based, with local leaders assuming supervisory roles over multiple community construction projects in exchange for a commission.

• Where necessary, homes will be reallocated to non-seismic areas and will be built with technol-ogies that will withstand future earthquakes, complying with legal and government requirements.

• Fundación Origen will build and run a community center offering intervention programs and daily supervision.

• We will strengthen the communities by creating a better social environment, setting the groundwork for them to break the cycle of poverty and become resilient productive towns.

FUNDACION ORIGEN Fundación Origen Pro Ayuda a la Mujer has 18 years of experience with a proven rep-licable community intervention model (CIM) based on a human, social development program together with an economic development program. We are convinced that empowered women can better educate and guide their children and families and, together transform the reality of their communities. Origen works with women in a human dimension breaking the cycle of violence and poverty, through education and workshops that strengthen their self-esteem, help them discover their entrepreneurial skills, train them to create products that can be profitable in the various markets, as well as teaching them basic business skills to increase their monthly income or help-ing them find jobs. The women, their families and the whole community will be trans-formed. Fundación Origen is a member of Ashoka.org.

ÉCHALE A TU CASA!Drawing upon years of experience in the housing industry, Échale a Tu Casa! (Give your house a go!) is addressing the lack of decent housing for Mexicans at the bottom of the pyramid. This auto-construction model is focused on communi-ty-based financing and construction of safe, ecologically friendly, and adequate homes, in order to offer both dignity and (re-sale) value to low-income home-owners.
