Champions and Links for Bucklow Manor Namaste Champion

Krystyna Natanek

Krystyna is responsible for managing the Namaste Care

program. Namaste is a program designed to improve the quality of life for people with advanced Dementia.

Namaste, is a Hindu term meaning “to honour the spirit within” and was selected to describe a program that

brings honour to people who can no longer tell us who they are or who they were or care for themselves

without assistance. Namaste sessions will take place every morning in the

sensory room from 10.30am – 12.00pm.

Tissue Viability Lead

Carol Farrington

Carol is the Tissue Viability Lead for the home which will assist in the prevention of pressure ulcers developing. Carol is completing “react to red” training days with all

staff which will assist them in their roles to identify triggers and help them to feel confident when contacting

the relevant proffessionals. Carol will be attending training sessions and study days and will work closely

with the District Nurse team who attend Bucklow Manor. This will also enable Carol to share her awareness

amongst the staff and give guidance and support where needed

Infection Control Lead

Tracey Adams

Tracey is the infection control lead for the home, she is

currently attending training with the Infection control team to improve her skills and knowledge in this area which will enable her to monitor work practices at the

home and to give guidance and support to all staff in this area.

End of Life Lead

Donna Booth

Donna has completed the Six Steps to Success training

for End of Life Care. This will enable the working practices and care given to clients at the end of their life in assisting to provide a “good death” and in the comfort

of their home. This knowledge is passed down to all staff working at Bucklow Manor to ensure the high

standards expected are maintained at all times.

Continence Lead Jenny Webb

Jenny will be responsible for completing referrals to the continence team on new

admissions or if residents needs change. She will monitor the usage of products in the home and be responsible for the ordering of aids prescribed. Jenny will also be available to give advice and support to staff in this area.

A sensory room and sensory equipment is available at

Bucklow Manor: Fiddle blankets, fiddle cushions, fiddle

muffs, mood lighting, aroma boxes, sensory dolls etc.

The aim of using sensory equipment is to equip staff with ideas and

materials in order to provide multi sensory stimulation appropriate

for people living with dementia (in particular mid and late stages)..

Studies have shown that people with dementia find them enjoyable

and relaxing. After spending time with sensory equipment residents

in the later stages of dementia show positive changes in mood and

behaviour, and also an increase in attention to their surroundings.

Staff feel that these improvements help with their relationship with

the residents and their daily work.

ACTIVITIES

All residents have enjoyed trips out to Dunham Park, Great Budworth ice cream

farm, Tatton Hall ice cream farm, Trips to the pub and local garden centre cafes.

During May Barry Mansfield played the organ for residents, in June residents

enjoyed Ken’s Clothes sale and Elizabeth Wager played the violin and the

residents loved playing the musical instruments and singing along to the songs.

Upcoming trips are a picnic at

Tatton Park, the Olde No 3

for afternoon tea, Walton

Gardens and Dunham Park

Residents have been making crafts ready for

their craft stall at the summer fair, they have

made cone bird feeders, painted canvases,

painted animals on to pebbles. The residents

have grown their own vegetables this year

(Peas and lettuce). They have also grown their

own flowers from seed.

Building Works

We are currently undergoing building works to the exterior of the home and we anticipate this to be ongoing for the next

4 weeks. Plans are being made for a new staff car park to be made

available at the rear of the home, this will free the front car park up for visitors to the home.

Plans are being made for the wall at the front of the home to

be flattened and a new railing is going to be erected. We ask that you kindly bear with us during this time and we will endeavour to keep disruption to the home to a minimum.

Summer Fair

We are holding a summer fair on Saturday

the 4th August from 12pm – 5pm

There are various activities planned for the day: Craft stalls, bottle bag stall, cake stall, tombola, raffle, book / DVD stall, Homemade jam stall, face painting, kids lucky dip, fire engines, ambulance service, live entertainers, burger van

and ice cream van….plus much more

All monies raised will go to the residents comfort fund….please show your support by joining us on the

day.

RELATIVES MEETING

Our next relatives meeting will be held on Saturday the 28th July 2018 at 11am. Refreshments will be made available.

Your support in attending the meeting would be

very welcome as it gives the opportunity to discuss forthcoming events, changes to the home, updating you on current issues and

chance to put your views forward and meet other relatives

The meeting will be chaired by the Home Manager. The head chef, senior care assistant, activity co-ordinator and administrator will

also be attending the meeting.
