Lesson 2: Counting and writing money.

What to do

We have done some work on recognising and counting coins.

Look at the next 2 slides together, ask your child to guess the coin?

How do we write pence? We put a ‘p’ to make it easier and quicker.

Can you do this with the ice-creams on the next page?

You do not need to print these slides, you can record in your

workbook.

You will need:• Work book and pencil.• Next 2 slides (these can be printed but do not have to be, instead these can be made/drawn in their homework).• Small objects that can be used to count with.

What to do

• This is very new learning, please do not worry if your child needs help. This is just practise.

• Remind and discuss with your child that number bonds are numbers that are best friends and work together to make 10.

• On the next slide is a diagram, the aim is to make 10.• How many dots do we have so far? you may want to record this.

• Then ask your child who is that number’s best friend? We can work this out by counting on to see how many more we need to make 10.

• Your child may want to use their fingers, a number line or objects, any is fine.

Rosie Reasoning Question! What Are We Learning?

We are learning to count up to ten objects when they are scattered in a random pattern. How to Set up the Challenge Put ten pennies into a purse or small container on a table. Place an apple, an orange and a banana on the table. Make some price labels by writing 4p, 7p and 10p on small pieces of paper and place one next to each fruit item. (Alternatively you could use the fruit and price labels in the illustration.) Spread a handful of the pennies on to the table in a random pattern (not lined up).
