Through the use of a guaranteed, viable ELA curriculum

Students deserve experiences to become collaborative, strong communicators, critical thinkers and creative, innovative problem solvers, in environments that are connected, rigorous and empowering.

Curriculum Overview

• Design an ELA curriculum that enables ALL students to experience their education with choice, cohesion and connection to the real world.

• Develop literacy skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking, and

language) for the purpose of successful learning.

• The underlying principle is that literacy is essential to the attainment of knowledge and knowledge is essential background for literacy development.

ELA Common Core Instructional Shifts

1. Regular practice with complex text and its academic language

2. Reading, writing and speaking grounded in evidence from literary and informational text

3. Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction
