Reflections Jesus continues to teach the “Way” (as Christianity was called in its earliest days). The “Way” is the way of peace and reconciliation, bearing with one another in fraternal love. Our harmonious life style rises above the venalities of worldly concerns and customs. Our perfection, our holiness of life, comes from surrendering ourselves to the greater Self, the God who loved us first. The uncommon graciousness of the (Catholic) Christian life can lead us to sainthood, even within our lifetime on earth. Expect miracles! Nothing is impossible for God.

Bishop’s Appeal 2017—December 31, 2016—Final Report (repeat) The Mission Advancement Office conducted a workshop in preparation for this year’s Bishop’s Appeal. The Kick-off weekend is set for February 18th-19th followed by several weekends leading to our renewed commitment to the mission of the Diocese of Oakland. Thanks to all! 65 donors; Goal: $10,613; Funds raised $14,160, Percentage of goal: 133.41%

Diocesan Capital Campaign—Latest Report (repeat) As well as the Bishop’s Appeal, the Capital Campaign continues as a long-term (4 year) process for all who continue to fulfill their pledges. Many thanks to all who sacrifice to both causes! Goal: $216,358; Funds raised to date: $193,579; Percentage of goal: 89%

Refugee Fund Project (Repeat) Our family has been assigned. Monies were released from the parish this week to settle the family in an affordable apartment in Oakland. The couple and their daughter are here from Afghanistan. She is expecting another child. The goods donated so far will be delivered by volunteers as soon as the family settles in. We might want to consider a baby shower! Thanks for your continued interest and support! School Support I want to thank the community for your generous support of the school in its closing months. The collection last weekend was $1,500.00! I hope Ms. Wilkie’s letter was a boost and a balm for hurting spirits. These are difficult waters to sail as the school closes. This summer brings new and challenging responsibilities to the parish with regard to the school premises. As always, your prayers are gratefully acknowledged. Thank you!

Rev. Fernando J. Cortez, Pastor

Bishop’s Appeal 2017 The publication deadline arrived and passed for this Bulletin (02/14). I am without much in the way of materials to place in your hands regarding the 2017 Bishop’s Appeal. Hopefully, a packet will have arrived this past week. This weekend marks the inauguration of the new Appeal. I am very grateful for the outstanding response in 2016 - coupled with the ongoing Diocesan Capital Campaign - and await the return of excess funds above our 2016 goal of $10, 613. Please remember the parish in your weekly offering and its long-term endowment. Blessings!

Rev. Fernando J. Cortez, Pastor
