CARING FOR CARGO, CUSTOMER AND CLIMATE

These are times of excitement at port. Our hinterland is robust. Our cargo volumes are surging. Our outlook is for steady growth in the next few years. We expect to handle more containerized cargo than ever. The number of

vessel calls have increased. Along the way, I see records tumbling. All this is nicely fitting into our strategy: growth that is sustainable and responsible. Our philosophy is to increase volume of business which in turn can lead to more jobs and more economic stimulus. The catch is: We must grow with care.

With that role comes responsibility. All this growth and development requires us to conduct ourselves in the best public interest for the public good. We can grow, but we want all our stakeholders to grow with us with a minimum of negative impact on environment.

So how will we maximize benefits and minimize adverse impacts? Caring for the three most important things in Port operations. Customer, Cargo and Climate. At port every activity of the employee is motivated to provide a positive customer experience. Customer centric approach is not a simple idea or a catchy phrase for us. It is a mission. We make extra efforts to understand the internal processes of customer to create a cultural change within our organization. Gaps are identified by gaining customer insights, all our communications and operational processes are aligned to drive sustainable results. Today’s customers have become conscious about choosing their port, transit routes and modes of transport than ever before. Second comes cargo care which is similar to customer care and is equally important. I keep hearing stories of some customers who lament that ports do not care much in understanding the value and criticality of cargo whilst handling. Here comes our unique approach into play. Not stopping with paying utmost attention while handling cargo at port, our teams go to the extent of hand-holding

customer cargo till it reaches its destination. In one case where the customer has no trained manpower to install his solar panels, our teams swung into action to sort it out.

We have many such stories. Third golden principle for us is caring for climate. It is in the DNA of our activities. Right from protecting mangroves to planting millions of saplings to automatic mist spray machines to control coal dust – port has pioneered in several green and sustainable initiatives rewriting the rules of environment friendly port. Latest edition to this is commissioning of e-RTGs which are not only efficient but have potential to reduce energy costs, noise levels and ensure zero emission, thus reiterating the commitment of port to be sustainable and environment friendly.

Some of the news articles which you will read in this issue will reflect the above three principles. Whether it is connecting Nagpur with new rail connection, installation of modern Drive through container scanner, obtaining scrap permission – all these are result of our relentless efforts and commitment to serve customer, cargo and climate.

Best wishes,

ANIL YENDLURIDirector & CEO

Giving a fresh fillip to industrial

development, a multi-crore mining products industry is likely to be set up by Vedanta Transforming Elements Ltd in the Krishnapatnam Port coastal region in Nellore district in the near future.

The industry is envisaged to come up in an area of 1,200 acres at a cost of Rs. 6,000 crore and is likely to create about 1,000 jobs in a phased manner. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (APIIC) would be identifying and transferring the required land.

Krishnapatnam Port is the first and only seaport in India to procure and install a drive through container scanner. Besides increasing security

and safety of the port, the container scanner will radically enhance the terminal’s overall performance whilst reducing the service time and enable the port to increase the volume of handling import containers. The Rs 10-crore equipment was inaugurated by Dr John Joseph, Member (Budget), Central Board of Excise & Customs in the presence of Mr Y. S. Shahrawat GST Chief Commissioner (Visakhapatnam Zone), the port’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Anil Yendluri, and others.

Indian importers are not keen on taking charge of ocean freight because of the risks involved, said Ms Vinita Venkatesh, Director of Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal while speaking on Digital Trends Shaping Logistics of the Future at the Indian Institute of

Material Management (IIMM) Chennai.

Ms Vinita Venkatesh, said that all maritime shipping nations have big shipping companies baring India and that lot of consolidation of shipping lines is happening in this sector now. Shipping vessels are becoming bigger and container cost per unit is getting reduced. In this conference IIMM presented the SCM Corporate Award to KPCT which was received by Mr. Vivek Nair, GM, KPCT.

Krishnapatnam Port, known

best for its innovations and technological advancements in the maritime industry, has created yet another historical milestone by achieving the highest discharge rate of 201934 metric tons in 24 hrs.

This achievement stands out as the fastest discharge rate in the history of any port in India and possibly in the world.

Cabotage Law Relaxed

07

MAERSK LINE INDIA MD VISITS PORT

Foreign-flagged ships will no longer need to obtain a license from India’s Director General of Shipping to engage in coastal

shipping in the country.

The relaxation of the cabotage law, announced by the Ministry of Shipping, Govt of India relates in particular to shipping of agricultural, fisheries, animal husbandry and horticultural commodities.

In practice, this means that international shipping companies would be able to move EXIM containers along India’s Coast.

Companies wishing to take advantage of the decision will have to submit information about their vessel and commodities transported to the Director General of Shipping via a prescribed format. The form needs to be sent at least 24 hours prior to the departure of the ship from the port in lndia.

However, the Ministry said that the foreign-flagged ships would be subject to inspection by Indian law enforcement agencies.

As informed, members of such agencies “shall be allowed to board such ships any time in the sea for ascertaining the bonafide credentials of the said ships/crew.”

Commenting on this development Ms Vinita Venkatesh, Director KPCT said, “India has good port infrastructure and cargo volume growth is required to utilise the excellent infrastructure facilities. At KPCT, we have a 1.2 million TEU terminal with 5 SPP twin lift QCs and 16m draft. At a current throughput of 0.5 million TEUs per year, there is sufficient capacity to handle additional volume growth.

Apart from the origin/destination cargo of the KPCT hinterland, the transhipment cargo potential represents an exciting market segment that can be explored. KPCT is already handling about 18000 TEU per month t/p cargo to/fro east coast ports, facilitated by the Indian Flag carrier Shreya’s Shipping. The new initiative of the government in lifting cabotage looks poised to induce higher cargo throughput at Indian ports. KPCT is well equipped with large land area, deep draft, high speed operations and competitive tariff to service the requirements of the transhipment cargo of both the Indian flag as well as the foreign flag carriers. Further we have land area allocated for the construction of additional 4.8m TEUs terminal capacity with 21m draft in preparation for the growth in transhipment cargo as may result from the GOI initiatives to boost container shipping in India.”

Immigration post at Port

The Central government has addressed a long standing demand of Krishnapatnam Port by designating the Port in

Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh as an authorised Immigration check post for entry into/exit from India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers.

With the advent of Immigration check post, the port can convert vessels from foreign to coastal run and vice versa. The vessel crew can also sign in and sign off at KP port now, unlike in the past.

Permission for Immigration check post was accorded in a Government of India’s gazette notification published on February 19 in pursuance of sub rule (b) of Rule 3 of Passport Rules, 1950. Similarly, in pursuance of sub-clause 2 of the foreigners order 1948, the Central Government has appointed the Superintendent of Police, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh as the Civil Authority for Immigration checks effective February 15, 2018.

As we seek to grow our businesses and deliver value to existing and new clients, collaborative-oriented, client-

focused partnerships are important part of the journey. In one year’s of journey, several such business partners have made phenomenal contribution to the growth of Ocean2Door (O2D ) and supported it to grow faster. In a unique gesture to express gratitude to all those wonderful people, partner meet was organised recently at Daspalla Hotel in Krishnapatnam Port.

It was an evening of celebration. A celebration of partnership which made O2D globally competitive and helped it to establish in the market especially during the tough times. This event reiterated the common goals and collective commitment which can lead to even brighter future. At the event, O2D team networked with its partners over an evening of cocktails and dinner celebrating the incredible journey which led to achieving handling of 1,200+ TEU’s in a month’s time.

O2D is amongst the fastest growing company and has developed great goodwill amongst its customers.

rishnapatnam Port has handled 45 Million Metric Tonne(MMT) of cargo

in 2017-18 (FY18) thus, achieving a 25% growth over 36.10MMT handled in the previous fiscal.

The company witnessed a record 88% rise in the number of containers it handled at 4,81,408 TEUs vis-à-vis 2,55,439 TEUs during the last fiscal. Total bulk cargo handled by the port stood at 37MMT.

Coal, Iron ore and Granite dominated the cargo portfolio handled at Krishnapatnam Port. It is now aspiring to achieve an impressive 52MMT in Bulk and 2 Lakh TEU in Containers this fiscal. The port has planned a total investment of $3 billion of which 1.23 billion has already been invested for development till date with second phase of expansion underway.

On the occasion, Anil Yendluri, Director and CEO, said, “Our world-class technology driven

infrastructure reiterates our claim to offer the most convenient and trade efficient gateway on the eastern periphery of the country”.

The number of vessels visiting the Port rose by 22% to 1290 vessel calls in 2017-18 as against 1061 vessels registered during the same period, last year.

With government’s push towards solar energy, the port has also witnessed a sharp rise in solar related shipments. It has successfully concluded 13,084 FEUs of solar cargo for the year FY17-18

With excellent rail connectivity in the states like Telangana, Karnataka and connectivity from Nagpur, Maharashtra, offers an additional spurt in shipments.

Despite industry slowdown, Krishnapatnam Port registered an overall growth of 25% in cargo handled, much higher than the average growth rate of 4.79% clocked by the Indian major ports.

In line with its ambitions to emerge as a coastal cargo hub on the east coast of the country, Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal (KPCT) has recently set up a dedicated coastal cargo berth to handle the growing coastal cargo traffic and reducing the time loss.

With the highest 16 meters’ draft facility for the container vessel berth, the port also has excellent connectivity to the major destinations across the globe. Major industries such as– thermal power plants, edible oil refineries, lubricant plants, steel plants, leather parks, fertilizer plants, SEZs, pipe manufacturing, multi-product industrial zones, wind mill manufacturers, mega food parks, etc. use Krishnapatnam Port as an ideal gateway for EXIM trade. The region is expected to change the economic and trade outlook of Eastern India and is soon to emerge as the industrial growth engine of South and Eastern India.

“Favourable government policies and handling of new cargo such as sand, steel products and agri-commodities have added to the growth of our shipments. Cargo in Andhra-Telangana, north and east Karnataka, besides eastern parts of Maharashtra which were earlier going to other ports have witnessed an instant cost advantage availing route optimization, multi-modal connectivity, and competitive pricing after they switched to Krishnapatnam Port.”

“The cargo spurt resulted partly from the growth of transshipment volumes at KPCT as the Indian Flag operators like Shreyas Shipping provided transshipment feeder services from KPCT to Kolkata, Haldia, Vizag and Paradip. Further to provide higher cost benefits to importers and exporters the port is offering Door to Door cargo logistics under its new service ‘Ocean2Door’. The service will soon offer online cargo bookings too.”

SCRAP YOUR WORRIES!

n India the gap between consumption and domestic supplies is expected to be over the next five years and could be a positive development for scrap importers. By 2023, Indian

government exports regulator MSTC forecasts a gap of 10 million tonnes per year shortfall between supplies of local ferrous scrap and the needs of buyers, which would need to be filled with imports.

Previously only few ports in India were allowed to import metal scrap. During April 2017 the Indian government has reduced the number of designated ports that will be able to handle scrap metal imports. The Indian Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) directed that all unshredded scrap metal imports must be shipped to designated ports equipped with radiation detection equipment and container scanners.

Metal industries located in and around Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra were having difficulty to reach out to port facilities farther away from

their factories and were incurring higher transportation cost, can avail immense value with this service.

In its drive to serve the customer better, Krishnapatnam Port has obtained permission from the Central Government for import of scrap. The service will be facilitated with the installation of the advanced Rapiscan system at the port, enabling Customs to inspect the scrap cargo without having to conduct an open examination.

With a drive-through container scanner at the port, KPCL now provides metal scrap importers with immense ease of operations. The KPCT container scanner will facilitate scanning of scrap trucks and container trailers for factory de-stuffing while taking delivery without additional delays for handling.

Further, since the Direct Port Delivery (DPD) facility is not available for shredded scrap at any of the nearby ports, the new service in place at Krishnapatnam Port will offer the advantage of lower handling cost and improved throughput time, especially for those who undertake de-stuffing at the factory.

First impression of metal scrap is that it is dirty and dangerous! But metal recycling and scrapping is a lucrative business for many. With permission obtained for import of scrap and installation of the advanced Rapiscan system, Krishnapatnam Port has added another

feature to its customer centric approach relieving importers and exporters of all their worries.

n industry first initiative, ‘Rapiscan Eagle P60 (“Eagle P60’’) a drive through X-Ray Container Scanner & Radiation Portal Monitor was

installed at port to increase security and safety at the port and also to radically enhance the container terminal’s overall performance whilst reducing the service time.

Technology is a crucial driver of the shipping and logistics industry. The port has introduced self sealing of export containers by the exporters with RFID seal. This will increase the speed of inspection; reduce the manual work at the terminal and enhance the efficiency of the entire logistic chain.

HOW DOES THIS BENEFIT?

The direct entry of these sealed containers will encourage more exporters to come and trade at the port at internationally cost effective and competitive prices. The move will thus benefit Indian exporters who otherwise suffer losses when non-scanned containers are shipped back and will encourage increased transhipment activities.

The drive through container scanner at Krishnapatnam Port will enable it to

“Installation of the modern container scanner at KPCT will assist importers in quicker and hassle-free clearance of imports and reduce lead times resulting in quicker cycle times.”

“It gives me immense pleasure to hear that KPCT would be clearing all types of steel scrap. Now our clearing cost would be much cheaper and the operations would be much faster and hassle-free. Happy to note that there is a port authority who not only understands our problem but also solves it proactively.”

increase the volume of handling import containers by at least 5000 TEUs per month, which includes 2500 to 3000 TEUs of metal scrap. This in turn will increase the frequency and connectivity of vessels, thus reducing the dwell time, transaction costs while ensuring timely delivery.

Besides backing direct port entry of export containers, the new scanner will help in Direct Port Delivery of import containers thus radically trimming down the dwell times at the Container Terminal and the Container Freight Station.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Anil Yendluri, CEO, Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited said, “Krishnapatnam has been at the forefront embracing technological advancements and integrating the most modern port solutions. The installation of the container scanner is a step forward to our ongoing commitment to offer the best in class and most competitive service offerings to our clients. We will continue to invest in cutting-edge technological innovations that not only bring immense benefits to the port operations and the trade community but also play a crucial role in contributing to the country’s economy.”

nother industry first initiative is the launch of an emission-reducing crane replacement project by transitioning to an all-electric mode. Ushering in five Electrical Rubber Tyre Gantry cranes (E-RTGC), the port is aiming at improved efficiencies while building on its pioneering

clean air initiatives by advancing promising zero emission technologies

Designed to offer significant operational performance, the new E-RTG cranes fleet is expected to infuse pace to the loading and unloading activities at the port which means more moves can be performed with enhanced efficiency. Besides the new fleet also has the potential to reduce energy costs by 80% and operating noise level by 65%, whilst ensuring zero emission of greenhouse gases such as CO2 and NOx vis-à-vis the classical diesel fuelled RTGs.

Commenting on the development, Ms. Vinita Venkatesh, Director, Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal said, “Krishnapatnam Port has always been at the forefront in embracing industry first technological advancements. We are equally proud and excited to welcome the new E-RTGC

fleet which is a pioneering clean air initiative in the country. Whilst promising zero emission, the new technology will boost our operational efficiencies multifold offering enhanced productivity for our customers and suppliers.”

“A strategic and long-term investment with a very high potential to improve competitiveness, the initiative also marks our continued contribution towards environment preservation and sustainable development and we are extremely pleased to take this positive step.” she added.

With the new fleet in operation, the port aims to save 0.04224 tons of CO2 per hour on a single E-RTGC while saving on more than 16 litres of diesel required per hour to run a single diesel fuelled RTG cranes. Rubber Tyre Gantry cranes (RTGs) are the primary machines for moving containers in terminal yards. Low energy costs and minimal environmental impact are key concerns of modern port. With the consumption of many litres of diesel fuel per day and rising diesel fuel prices, one of the biggest potential for substantial cost and emissions reduction in ports is the use of electricity instead of diesel in Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes.

COMMITTED TO CLIMATE CHANGE

The newly arrived E-RTGS will not only enhance operational efficiency but have the potential to reduce energy costs, noise levels and ensure zero emission, thus reiterating

the commitment of port to be sustainable and environment friendly without compromising on efficiency.

ndhra Pradesh is set to emerge as a major automobile hub as South Korea’s automobile giant, Kia Motors, is setting up a mega automobile manufacturing project

at Yerramanchi village in Penugonda mandal of Anantapur district.

Hither to a sleepy village, project site here is now abuzz with activity. Works are going on at a brisk pace. An administrative building was built and the works relating to staff quarters for about 2,000 Korean staff are under progress. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has recently inaugurated the new buildings.

With an eye on producing more cars for the Indian market, Hyundai and Kia Motors will jointly manufacture cars from Anantapur unit. Kia is investing close to Rs 13000 crore in the unit. The group will produce low cost cars for the masses. Although both Hyundai and Kia will be sharing the platform for their future products, the overall design of the final product will be different that will cater to all sections.

Once the plant commences production the economic scenario of the drought-hit Anantapur district would witness rapid changes as it would provide major employment opportunities to local youth. On the other hand the industry-friendly atmosphere and eco system in the state would attract some more industries as the district is more accessible to international airport and Bengaluru city.

The 75-year old company, and the eighth largest automotive company, KIA Motors in India will generate direct employment to 4,000 persons and indirect jobs to about 3,000 people. The Kia Motors has its own workforce of 2,000 Korean nationals at the project site. The company is currently in discussions with the Andhra Pradesh government to start a joint training program at the state government level to develop the necessary manufacturing skills among local residents.

Chief Minister, Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu participated in the frame installation programme held at the plant located at Yerramanchi village of Penugonda mandal of Anantapur district.

With Andhra Pradesh set to emerge as a major automobile hub, Krishnapatnam Port will play a key role in the supply chain of auto components.

The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation allotted 535.50 acres to the main plant, 36 acres to township and 11.20 acres to training centre. The state government is ready to allot 250 acres to 40 automobile-allied industries in Gudipalli and Yerramanchi villages. Besides, the state government is making efforts to allot 100 acres for railway siding and 48.47 acres for truck terminal

The engine shop, body shop, paint shop, seat shop, assembled unit, utility centre and power train shop are getting ready in main unit of the plant. All infrastructure facilities including water supply, power supply and laying of roads and approach roads were completed.

The company said currently its plant is one month ahead of schedule and the construction process is planned for completion as early as by the end of the first quarter of next year, with vehicle production earmarked to begin later in 2019.

At the recently concluded Auto Expo, Kia Motors had said it would introduce

a range of vehicles, including an India-exclusive compact electric vehicle in the country between 2019 and 2021. The company unveiled its SP Concept, an SUV designed and developed for the Indian market. It will be the first product to go on sale in the country in the second half of next year. HW Park, who also served as chief executive of Hyundai Motors India Ltd, says that the company wants to understand what customers in India want.

Andhra Pradesh to develop as automobile hub

Speaking on the occasion of Frame Installation ceremony at Kia Motors plant, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr N Chandrababu Naidu announced that the focus of the State now is on transforming Anantapur in particular and Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh into a major automotive hub in the country.

Japanese auto company Isuzu, two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp, Apollo Tyres, Bharat Forge and Brakes India have already made AP their manufacturing hubs. While Amara Raja Batteries has a big presence in the State, Ashok Leyland and Vira Vahana are keen to make it their hub. The State has managed to attract $3.7 billion in the auto sector, he said.

Supply Chain For Kia Motors

A Korean consortium of auto component manufacturers are set to make approximately USD 1 billion investment in a supply chain for Kia

Motors plant. This consortia are in the final stage of discussions with Andhra Pradesh government for setting up a vendor eco-system to support the Kia integrated plant. The vendor-based supply chain will be set up in two phases, similar to Hyundai Motors’ 80-vendor support in Tamil Nadu. Both Hyundai and Kia are international brands of South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Group. Hyundai had developed its own vendor supply chain over the years to keep final car manufacturing cost down and competitive in the Indian market. Nearly 16 companies signed memoranda of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government for setting up auto ancillary units to cater to Korean auto maker. The companies will invest 737 million USD (Rs 4,790 crore) and provide 6,583 jobs, an official release from government said.

Kia Motors India (KMI) has recently appointed Mr Kookhyun Shim as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer responsible for driving Kia Motors’ expansion in the Indian market.

Shim will oversee the construction of Kia Motor’s first manufacturing facility

Kia Motors to Krishnapatnam Port

At the recently held CII summit at Visakhapatnam Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu made an announcement of K2K (Kia Motors to Krishnapatnam Port), the prestigious road network between the new plant in Anantapur and the port in Nellore district, would be a game-changer, as it would pass through the district. “Work on the four-lane Chittoor-Bengaluru concrete highway has begun and proposals are being readied for the six-lane Chittoor-Naidupeta highway.”

“I believe Kia will bring amazing change and hope to both of the State of Andhra Pradesh and the entire India. We are here to build more than just great cars. We aim to set a new standard of automotive lifestyle experience by providing Indian consumers with world-class products and service, but also deeply engaging with the Indian people and giving back to the community whenever possible.”

“The Indian economy is at an inflection point, and I am excited to work in an emerging market that’s forecasted to become the third largest globally by 2021. India is a crucial market for all global automotive brands, and I aim to replicate the success that Kia has seen in many other major markets. Kia’s brand slogan, ‘The Power to Surprise’, will be present in everything we do here.”

in Andhra Pradesh, French automotive firm Faurecia announced setting up of a new automobile interiors plant in Ammavarupalli inside the KIA Motors supplier park at Anantapur district.

Faurecia, which recently carried out the ground-breaking ceremony will be investing Rs 50 crore in the new 15,000-sqm site that will lead to generation of around 400 jobs. The Faurecia plant is scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2019 and will have a daily production of above 1,000 instrument panels for Hyundai Mobis and Kia Motors.

Kia was founded in December 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, a manufacturer of steel tubing and

bicycle parts, eventually producing Korea’s first domestic bicycle, the

Samchully, in 1951.

For the longest time KIA was an underdog of the automotive industry. At the dawn of its history, the Korean

company was a humble manufacturer, barely known to few industry

professionals and unnoticeable to the public. However, the company is a living example of the rule that hard work, a little bit of creativity and fair share of luck can turn an unknown

company into one of the top players of the world automotive industry.

Nowadays, KIA produces distinctive, reliable, modern and relatively

affordable cars.

Customs department has come a long way in its efforts to transform from being regulator to facilitator. In this exclusive interview to Portfolio Ms Koka Sudha, Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Vijayawada talks about the reforms at the department to create more ease of doing business

“COMPLIANCE QThere seem to be sweeping changes

happening in Customs. Can you briefly tell me about these initiatives and how they are changing the way department functions?

In the last three years Customs focus has phenomenally changed. At one time the department was seen only as regulator. But now it has turned to be a facilitator too.

After IDE introduction in 1996, ICE GATE, Risk based Assessment Programme in 2012, 24x7 operations have been major reforms that brought lot of ease in doing business. AEO programme is one significant change and now this is applicable to all kinds of stakeholders like exporters, importers, logistics service providers etc. Huge benefits come along with this programme.

The focus of customs has always been on electronic data exchange. Digital India has also boosted this automation of customs operations. In 2016 with implementation of single window, capturing information has become easy and clearance time got drastically reduced. And by now, everyone knows that there is a total shift in operations of customs post-GST. Whenever exporter files any shipping bill system looks for refund. This is automatic and seamless. So technically an exporter can get refund in 5 days.

Even we are surprised at the pace of change that is happening in Customs Department. But all these need compliance from trade.

QHow is response from trade? What it needs to

do to benefit from all these initiatives?

A lot. They need to do a lot. We see two kinds of organisations.

Organisations which understand these changes quickly and adopt to benefit from them. Others who are not aware of them. Trade needs to observe the changes that are happening in regulation, understand the benefits that would come along and engage with service providers like CHAs and logistic operators. We are conducting workshops and outreach programs to help them. In many of my interactions with exporters I have found that they are interested to adopt to change. Future is completely digital with lot of transparency and compliance. Anyone who is complaint will benefit.

QMajor concern of trade is dwell time at ports.

Apart from digitalisation what is being done to reduce dwell time at ports?

The perception is that whenever there is delay in clearance it is due to customs. But historically, clearance time is impacted by multiple agencies, multiple operations and multiple locations. Now focus is to increase Direct Port Delivery (DPD). With this, our clearance is so fast that importer can take delivery of his container cargo and move directly to his premises. So instead of clearance at port container can be taken to CFS and get cleared. Another important change is self-sealing of containers. In this process container can be taken directly to port.

Every month we conduct time release study. How much time we have taken from the arrival of cargo and when it leaves port. In this study, it was found that there are instances of long delays from the side of importer and port.

We are advising ports to inform the customers about the delays and processes. Collectively

we have to work together to reduce the delays.

QHow is the experience in your jurisdiction in terms

of trade growth?

I feel, right now Andhra Pradesh is an exciting place for customs operations.

One-it is a new state and second most important factor is that Andhra Pradesh is an exporting state and thus is net foreign exchange earner. Its strength lies in agri-exports and commodities. For example in tobacco, chillies, shrimps and granite exports, the state is a leader. AP is home to imports of edible oil at both Kakinada and Krishnapatnam.

The state is showing robust growth both in imports and exports. This is reflected in revenues under my jurisdiction which was at around Rs.3500 crores in 2016-17 has now reached to 5400 crores in 2017-18.

QWhat are the challenges you are facing?

Major challenge is lack of awareness - from both the sides. Now the entire mantra is trade facilitation. We are here to help the trade. So, there is a need for capacity building among our own officers.

Post GST, jurisdictions and nature work get changed. With large number of EOUs and SEZs, we need to perform lot of compliance checks. Also soon we will have an international airport here. So, definitely we would require more staff.

Keeping the channels of communication with trade is important. Trade needs to fully participate to be compliant. For this to happen, top management should be committed. Obviously we need to interact with other agencies and share information to enable speedy customs clearances.

Challenge here is lack of information. So, at every level we need to bridge the gap.

QDo you have any specific agenda set for this year?

Seventy people have applied for AEO programme. All of them yet to get their certification. We want to work closely with certification department and see that as many applicants as possible get AEO certification in our jurisdiction.

We want to reach the top position in implementation of all initiatives like eSanchit launched by CBEC and be the best Commissionerate in facilitating trade. We are motivating our work force at Vijayawada in achieving this. It is a tough task but would be a very fruitful experience.

QWhat are your impressions about

working with Krishnapatnam port?

It is a very sophisticated port. Authorities at Krishnapatnam port are extremely positive and work very closely with us helping and promoting trade. All operations are streamlined and well managed. Most importantly, their commitment to being compliant with various regulations. No exception is given to implement all our programmes. Management takes all the efforts to put in required infrastructure for better facilitation of trade or regulators. That way, as department, we get lot of support and cooperation from Krishnapatnam port. I think that is also the reason how this port has grown very fast in the short span of eight years. This port being located strategically near metros and connected with all major highways - many exporters and importers are able to use this port.

port designed an equally effective food chain management system with various departments working in coordination to provide 14,000 meals a day.

Food chain in Krishnapatnam port involves a host of stakeholders including Planning and purchase department, Cooking Department and food distribution department. It is not a top-down approach, but drives cooperation and coordination among all the stakeholders to run a cost-efficient food chain.

Planning and Purchase department

Menu preparation is made based on the demography of employees. Many workers come from diverse backgrounds with different food preferences. Their preferences are considered in menu preparation.

This department selects raw material suppliers based on the quality report from the cooking department. Recently, port started to procure vegetables grown in its own premises. This is another way of ensuring fertilizers-free food to its employees.

A well balanced diet is a key factor for good health. This reflects in the overall career progress and healthy personal life of a man. Such a healthy man with good physiological and cognitive health can be an asset to his organisation and to his nation.

When Krishnapatnam Port started its journey in 2008 to become the largest port in India, it found that this key factor of well balanced diet for its human capital has a crucial role in its journey of excellence.

BALANCED DIET PRODUCTS GREAT MINDS

best quality and tasty food to all. Port management provided them with automated machinery like Massive steamers, Chapati machine, Vegetable cutters etc. This equipment has enabled providing almost 14,000 meals a day.

Food distribution department

This is a complex chain with supplying food to 30 dining halls every day. Responsibility is distributed among teams like hospitality, hygiene maintenance at dining halls, feedback collection, Food wastage monitoring, etc. Krishnapatnam Port believes in team work. From top management to ground level and food supply managers, all are connected on WhatsApp groups and everyone monitors this food chain collectively. Feedback charts from all the dining halls are posted on the group, which imbibe a sense of accountability among all the stakeholders in the chain. All these departments work in so close in coordination that, the food wastage is minimized. Out of approx. 17,000 Kgs food produced, the food wastage is only meagre 5-6%, which in turn is converted into organic manure for the plants grown at the port.

“I am working as security guard here for the last 4 years. Port provides me with healthy breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. They take care of my energy needs by providing eggs and non-vegetarian. During festivals I feel at home as port provides all delicious sweets and dishes to us.”

“I am from Odisha and working as Driver in Krishnapatnam Port. I am staying in CVR complex for the last 4 years. I am getting good and tasty food with my favourite roti and sabjis. I am thankful to the Port.”

– Dr. Ramesh Manager CVR Foundation

Thus, working away from home is no longer an issue for Port employees.

Through this effective food management and distribution programme the port management cares for healthy diet of each and every employee giving highest importance to human resources. This can be as one important contributing factor for the substantial growth and reputation of port.

This massive Kitchen at Krishnapatnam Port sets an example and inspiration to many surrounding industries in caring for their employees and other stake holders.

Krishnapatnam Port believes that its growth should be inclusive and reflect the allround development of its employees. The future plan is to establish a modular kitchen and enhance the capacity to serve 35,000 people a day.

Krishnapatnam Port is not just seeing itself as a port handling trade but also building healthy eco-system, where “give and take” principle is followed by every stakeholder for the overall sustainable development of the region.

Token of humanity in the times of Crisis

Krishnapatnam Port stands first to extend helping hand during disasters like floods etc. During Chennai floods, port has provided 60,000 food parcels to the needy through air drop.

Athidhi Devo Bhava

Port has a unique culture of “Athidhi Devo Bhava”. Vessel crew who travel on high seas for months feel so happy on receiving fresh fruit baskets on arrival at Krishnapatnam Port.

Annadanam at Sri Kalahasti

When Port took up the great spiritual programme of Sri Kalahasti Yagnam after its gopuram reconstruction, they have provided free food to all devotees for 10 days. Annadanam is highly cherished value in our Indian culture. Port handled this with much spiritual vibe.

Compassionate to the needs of outsiders

Port provides free food packets to outside drivers who are on duty in logistics, road transport and to other contract workers, who come to port from very long distances.

All are equal

From VVIPs to top most port officials to the ground level worker all meals come from the same kitchen. Port motto is that all human beings are equal and have the right to get food from the same hygiene environment.

Hygiene is part of nutrition

An innovative idea at Krishnapatnam Port is Green MOU. EHS department at Port signs MOU with food supply department. EHS team monitors hygiene at cooking area, raw material storage, dining halls and handling of wastage. Also, Port management delegated monitoring authority to senior officials and the reports of these mentors are discussed at meetings periodically under the guidance of CEO level.

ndia’s dependence on liquid bulk cargoes will keep on increasing in the next five years, particularly, that of petroleum, oils, edible oils

and other petrochemicals. With increase in liquid bulk volumes, liquid bulk trade will be a significant contributor to the Customs and port revenues. However, sufficient infrastructure is still not available on either coasts of India to handle, store and distribute liquid cargo.

Bridging this infrastructure gap is the Krishnapatnam Liquid Cargo Terminal, equipped with dedicated berths that have sufficient draft to handle Panamax size vessels’ and beyond. In fact, 873 acres out of 6800 acres of port area is earmarked for liquid business portfolio and additional land will be allocated for liquid storage based on the demand. The terminal has exclusive liquid storage facilities within 5 km access to the jetties with excellent road and rail connectivity. To further streamline liquid cargo movement, the port has

planned 2 dedicated rail sidings for liquid cargo in addition to the 16 existing full length rail sidings with access to CTOs for rake placement and without any congestion.

North Liquid Terminal Phase – I

O2D has a wide network of offices in India and representatives and partners across the globe to service the door to door business efficiently. Further, we are backed by a strong posse of asset-rich vendors ensuring zero-error deployment of trailers and other infrastructure.

In the short span of time since its inception, O2D has had tremendous response from the trade and has grown rapidly. The O2D online booking platform will be launched shortly, enhancing the response time for the customers and enabling O2D to widen its reach to a larger customer geography.Mr C Sasidhar adds, ‘O2D’s online product will be versatile and swift to respond to the fluidity of customer requirements. No single innovation will suffice. Continuous collaboration with partners will keep us agile in a protean marketplace.’

The next wave of globalisation is characterised by shifting business dynamics and rapid and unpredictable change. India’s importers and exporters will need a dependable and yet, adaptable logistics partner to ride the waves of change and emerge winners in the global marketplace. O2D will be a shining example of e-commerce entrepreneurship reshaping the supply chain road map and bringing transparency to the domain of cargo logistics.

– Mr C. Sasidhar Chairman, Ocean2Door

ndia’s logistics industry which is worth around USD 180 billion is growing at a CAGR of 10.5% and estimated to touch USD 215 billion

by 2020 as per the Economic Survey 2017-18. The implementation of GST, the inclusion of the logistics sector in the Harmonised Master List of the Infrastructure Sub sector and creation of a new logistics division under the Ministry of Commerce are some of the policy initiatives expected to enhance logistics performance in India.Improvement in logistics efficiency has a huge implication on exports and it is estimated that a 10 percent decrease in indirect logistics cost can contribute a 5-8% increase in exports. The need of the hour is to introduce technology, thereby simplifying processes, eliminating fragmentation and enabling seamless movement of cargo over different modes, for the desired objective of reducing cost of the supply chain.

The Krishnapatnam Port and group companies which are serving the nation with excellence in cargo handling for over a decade on the east coast of India have introduced a door delivery cargo booking product – Ocean2Door (O2D). Mr C. Sasidhar, Chairman, Ocean2Door, elucidates, ‘The next wave of globalisation is characterised by shifting business dynamics and rapid and unpredictable change. India’s importers and exporters will need a dependable and yet, adaptable logistics partner to ride the waves of change and emerge winners in the global marketplace. O2D will be a shining example of e-commerce entrepreneurship reshaping the supply chain road map and bringing transparency to the domain of cargo logistics.”

Flexibility and versatility are the key aspects of the services offered by O2D. While the standard requirements of the exim process by way of CHA, trucking, ocean freight, warehousing, survey etc are provided, O2D is highly sensitised to the differing needs of its customers as exhibited by the following customised services:

• Mobile Labour Force for stuffing/ destuffing at customer’s factory/ plant.

• Cleaning of farm produce• Bagging agricultural produce• Cargo Fumigation facility

rishna Dredging Company Pvt Ltd (KDCL ) has recently completed Sea Water Outfall system (SWO) works for 1000MW Meenakshi energy.

This project involved dredging of 1.25 km long trench offshore to a designed profile and subsequently laying of HDPE pipeline of 1000mm dia, 1.25km pipeline precisely in the trench.

KDCL’s expertise in offshore pipelaying works was demonstrated once again with the completion of this project in record time.

For any power plant, effluent water needs to be conveyed back into the sea by installing offshore disposal system. For this project the solution was to lay a submarine pipeline of 1000 OD HDPE, PE100, SDR 26 for a length of 1.25km from HTL. The outfall pipeline was laid below the seabed with a minimum cover of 1 meter top of the pipe with a linear multi-port diffuser at the terminal end.

As the temperature of the warm water released would be 4 degrees higher than ambient seawater and RO brine water reject would have a salinity of 59ppt, the outfall discharge is distributed through 18 ports at diffuser head. The exit velocity from port is designed in such a way so as to have 2.5m/sec while exiting.

The size of the pipe and location of

diffuser, no of ports complied with MOEF guidelines.

HDPE, PE100, SDR26 comes in a standard length of 12 meters, HDPE pipes were welded together to form strings of length 400 meters in length by butt welding using ITS make welding machine.

Pipe strings in stacking area and pipeline jointing

The outfall pipeline strings are then fixed with anti-buoyancy concrete ballast blocks, the weight and shape of the block is designed in such a way that the pipeline stability at the bottom is intact against the hydrodynamic forces acting on the pipeline. The floatation of the pipeline will depend on the weight and the spacing of the blocks. All the strings were formed onshore and they were waterborne by means of a specially erected ramp.

The individual strings are connected with the help of flange connection and the flange jointing was done with the help of cranes. As the pipeline will be in corrosive waters, all the flanges and fasteners used were of SS material of higher grade.

All the HDPE pipe strings are hydro pressure tested before making them waterborne as per international

guidelines procedure -SFS3115 E plastic pipes water tightness test for pressure pipelines.

1.25km long pipeline being towed to the sinking site

The dredging of the trench to the designed profile is made with CSD 750, the dredger being big is able to with stand the prevailing weather conditions of this season. Survey boat equipped with all the sophisticated equipment is utilized for carrying out the trench survey.

CSD 750 dredging very close to the Land fall point.

The pipeline in entirety of 1.25km is towed to the site with the help of tug boat and supported by smaller flotilla. Towing to the site requires a lot of planning wrt timing of weather conditions and tides. Weather conditions and the local conditions need to be monitored before towing the pipe into sea. Critical part was always towing the pipe with correct alignment till LFP which is in the surf zone.

Once the pipeline is in alignment of the trench, sinking of pipeline is carried out either from shore or from offshore. The pipeline is controlled by boats and position of pipeline wrt trench is continuously monitored, so as to ensure the pipe sinks precisely in the trench.

The recently completed Sea Water Outfall (SWO) system demonstrates the capabilities of Krishna Dredging.

s part of its multi-modal connectivity model

Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal has launched a new weekly direct

container rail service

connecting the country’s central

region to the east coast and beyond in

association with India’s premier container train

operator CONCOR. The inaugural train left from KPCT

on 29th May 2018 with a full load of MAERSK Line import containers.

Commenting on the occasion Mr. Anil Yendluri, CEO, Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited said, “Our new service offering is all set to revolutionise the EXIM trade dynamics for Central and East India as shipping over KPCT can reduce atleast one week’s transit time vis-à-vis shipping via west coast ports and with the new freight rail service in place, traders can further rationalise time and costs, availing a direct entry into the port.”

The new service will provide shipping lines, forwarders, tank operators and cargo-owners, a seamless route between Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal and Central India including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana in turn minimising congestion and facilitating swift movement of containers. Empty containers will be made available at ICD, Nagpur for movement to KPCT.

Commenting on the occasion Ms. Vinita Venkatesh, Director, Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal, said, “ Our logistics arm is able to efficiently road bridge cargoes from ICD Nagpur across central Indian states like Madhya Pradesh. This rail service will enable

NEW

importers and exporters of Central India to benefit by using an east India port for cargoes to/from China, Korea, Japan and South East Asia.”

The train service will help customers avail huge savings per cargo container while also eliminating the chances of pilferage which has been a major issue for businesses. Moreover unlike road transport, which involves multiple examinations even after taking prior customs clearance of the containers, the train can directly enter the port without any further examination, benefitting customers.

Exports under the service offering will include cargoes like – cotton, ferro alloys, rice, steel, transmission towers whereas the imports will include – calcium carbonate, furniture, general cargo, newsprint, scrap, timber, waste paper among others.

The current transit time from China to Nagpur via JNPT on the older routes which ranges between 22 to 25 days can be drastically trimmed down to 15 to 18 days via Krishnapatnam container terminal. Similarly from Yangon to Nagpur via JNPT transit time is 12 to 15 days where as via KPCT transit time is 7 to 10 days thereby providing huge economical and transactional benefits.

RAIL SERVICE

Weekly service between ICD Nagpur and KPCT

45 wagons capable of carrying over 90 containers per trip

Transit time reduced from 80 hours to 55 hours. Will

benefit EXIM shipments between Central India and China, Far East,

POLAVARAM DAM PROJECT

31PORTFOLIO / AUGUST 2018

Navayuga Engineering Company (NEC) is on a mission to fulfil the half-century-old dream of the people of Andhra Pradesh with the Polavaram Dam Project, the most prestigious and challenging project in India with 7.2 lakh acres of new ayacut created for

irrigation during phase I and 12 lakh acres in phase II, and another 23.5 lakh acres of stabilized ayacut.

NEC was entrusted with the responsibility of constructing the Polavaram Project by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, once it became clear that the previous contractor could not meet the herculean challenges associated with completion of this mammoth Project.

The construction of this mega structure, with a pier height of 54 m and a total of 48 gates spanning 1070 m, requires pouring of 31 lakh cubic meters of concrete, 50,000 tonnes of steel and 9,30,000 tonnes of cement, all in record time.

The Polavaram Project would irrigate a total of 42 lakh acre ayacut in two phases and influence the supply of water to all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Designed to withstand massive floods that could occur once in a 1000 years, the Polavaram Spillway is set to have the highest discharge capacity in the world. At 50 lakh cusecs, it is set to surpass even the 3 Gorges Dam of China, one of the largest dams in the world, which has a discharge capacity of 47 lakh cusecs. Polavaram dam has a total capacity of 194 tmc of water and the design allows for 99.23% utilisation of water with a dead storage capacity of a mere 1.5 tmc. This landmark project would ensure sufficient supply of water for the entire state of Andhra Pradesh.

Myanmar can become a gateway between India, China and other ASEAN

countries both by sea and land. Though it is our neighbour, exports and imports between our two countries are low with approximately USD 2 billion each while trade with farther countries is growing better and faster. So, India needs to improve economic ties and trade relations with Myanmar.

With immediate requirement of infrastructure, there is huge scope for Indian companies to set-up manufacturing facilities, undertake EPC contracts and build power plants.

At present there is no direct port connectivity between India and Myanmar. Ports are riverine and low draft in Myanmar. May be we should look at Coastal Shipping Agreement like how we did with Bangladesh and see whether we can run River Sea Vessels (RSV) between our two countries.

BUSINESS OF GOLF

Golf SagaContinues

After a phenomenally successful and most sought after third season of Golden Eagles Golf

Tournament in India, Krishnapatnam Port has taken this glamorous tournament international.

Golf isn’t merely a leisure sport. It’s the martini lunch of the modern workforce, the buoyant venue

where business gets done. One famous golfer once said: “This of it as a six-hour sales call”.

Krishnapatnam Port has been organizing Golden Eagles Golf Tournament for the last three years in

India. The third season has seen corporate golfers from the senior leadership team of more than 500 companies

as participants. The tournament was planned across four major cities of India, Bengaluru followed by Pune, Hyderabad and

ended with closing ceremony in Delhi.

To engage international customers and business partners two rounds of golf tournaments were organized one in Dubai and the other in Singapore.

At the stunning Dubai Creek Golf Course, around 10 of selectively invited customers and well wishers from the shipping lines, NVOCC’s and cargo owners gathered to enjoy a day on the greens. The participants were in high spirits to tee off along with the cricket legend Mr. Kapil Dev and Ms. Taylor Ramsey, a passionate and professional golf enthusiast from the US and who is also KPCT representative in Singapore.

Each of the three-ball pairings got a chance to play a few holes along with Mr. Kapil Dev, who is an excellent golfer himself. There were challenging moments for our guests while showcasing their best performance on the course.

After golf all the guests came back to the sail shaped landmark-clubhouse for lunch and announcement of winners.

Mr. Jayaram H, Senior Manager, Vasco Global Maritime LLC was the lucky man of the day by winning in 2 categories (‘Overall winner’ and ‘closest to pin’). He got to take home, along with a great driver, an unforgettable memento – one of Mr. Kapil Dev’s own trophies that he won during his impressive and illustrious career with the Indian cricket team.
