Introducing Hayley Sherlock This year we have welcomed Hayley Sherlock to our team of teachers. Hayley is a specialist recorder teacher who graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire after studying recorder with Annabel Knight and Chris Orton.
Throughout her time there, she had the opportunity to perform both as a soloist and in ensembles in various concerts, competitions and festivals. While studying, Hayley explored the vast repertoire of the recorder from Medieval and Renaissance music to 20th Century revival recorder music to music written in the present day, including premiering a number a works for solo recorder and recorder ensemble.
With her expertise on the recorder, Hayley is passionate about teaching the instrument in a way that strips the recorder of its 'primary school instrument' connotations and makes it as appreciated an instrument as the orchestral instruments many children 'move on to'.
The recorder is fantastic, as it's a cheap and accessible way into learning an instrument, however it is also a beautiful and versatile instrument in its own right; something Hayley is keen to demonstrate to her students.
