“My Hero” Art in Motion Exhibit Now On Display at McMurray Experience Residents and visitors are invited to see the heroes of local artists showcased in the Art in Motion display at McMurray Experience.

“The phrase ‘My Hero’ carries a lot of weight, particularly in our community,” said Liana Wheeldon, Membership & Engagement Manager for Arts Council Wood Buffalo. “It is exciting to me that our local artists created pieces that speak to so many different aspects of defining this word and made our selection process a challenge. We are sure that you will find your hero represented in the My Hero exhibit.”

Artwork currently on display was created using a variety of materials such as pastel, rice and paint. The artists whose work was selected are Austan Najmi-Beauchamp, Malja Najmi-Beauchamp, Dave Ball, Ederlyn Mcguigan, and Kenneth Gaudier.

The art will be on display until late January, after which a new exhibit entitled “Into the Wild” will be installed. For more details about Art in Motion, please visit www.rmwb.ca/artinmotion.

McMurray Experience, located at Jubilee Plaza (9909 Franklin Ave), is open Wednesday to Sunday from 8:30am to 9:00pm.

Cancer takes many lives each year, yet we still have limited public spaces to discuss what cancer is all about and what sort of treatment exists for those living with cancer. Laura Roberts, as a recent survivor of breast cancer, will share her own lived experience of going through treatment. She will explain why she believes dancing saved her life and will leave you with a very powerful argument as to how creative arts therapy is key to healing both the physical and spiritual body. After the lecture, join us in the art gallery where you can view some of Laura’s artwork.

The mission of the Roman J. Witt Residency Program is to support the production of new work with assistance from the Stamps School of Art & Design community. The program awards one residency per academic year for a visiting artist/designer to work at the school to develop a new work in collaboration with students and faculty. To witness and partake in the creation of a defined work from idea to realization is the centerpiece of the residency. This visibility of the artist’s process is intended as an exemplary teaching tool for the school as a whole. The residency is expected to culminate in the realization of the proposed work, as well as a presentation that summarizes the process and work accomplished.

Eligibility The Witt Residency is open to both established and emerging artists/designers

Honorarium $20,000 for up to twelve weeks in residence served over an academic year. There is flexibility in how the time in residence is apportioned. In addition to the honorarium, residents will be provided with housing, studio space, and up to $5,000 funding support for project materials.
