Simple to install – just treat it inthe same way as timber edging.

How is Filcris Recycled Edging used?

2 main ways of using our edging boards:

Level with the ground surface and / or path. The standard way of using edging boards as a path edging. It reduces trip hazards and allows grass to be cut easily. Since the edging is held in position by the soil and path surface temporary wooden stakes can be used and fewer stakes may be needed.

FlushUsed where beds and borders are edged seperate soil and mulches from decking, lawns and paving. The edge can be sunk partially into the ground to adjust the depth and get a secure fixing it must be held in position with stakes. More stakes may be needed for this type of edging.

Raised

Edging planks & stakes (see over for options).5mm x 40mm wood screws for 18mm planks.5mm x 50mm for 24mm / 25mm planks.

Tape measure, spirit level, string or line and pins or canes for setting out.Lump or sledge hammer to knock in the stakes.Crossut saw to trim planks and stakes.Clamps to hold planks to stakes.Cordless drill/driver.

Materials: Equipment:

Method

Mark out course with sand/ hose.Dig trench 160 - 170mm deep and about 250mm wide.If the edging is to be raised the trench can be shallower.Set out course and level with a string line and canes or pins.

Preparation:

Avoid using butt joints sharing a single stake on 40mm x 40mm standard stakes as shown below.

Joints:

Only use on 90° corners Stronger general purpose joint without extra stakes needed

Recommended joint especiallyon tight curves and angles

Alternative to braced butt jointor double stake joint

Clamp plank to first stake and hammer in. Clamp plank to other stakes spaced as needed, ensure level is correct. Ensure stakes spaced closely enough to support plank and any retained soil if needed. Trim any excess plank material and arrange joint for next plank. Fix planks to stakes using 5mm x 40mm or 50mm screws. Predrill through the plank into the stake and countersink the plank if required. 2 screws per stake/plank fixing will be needed.
