Ken and Diana Arbary established a scholarship in memory of the their daughter, Michelle Greenwell, who passed away from cancer at the age of 35. Michelle was the mother of Emily ’11, Laura ’13, and Rachael Greenwell, a sixth grader at St. Philip Catholic School.

The Michelle Diane Greenwell Schol-arship awards a graduating senior with a scholarship for college and provides tuition assistance to Mater Dei families. The Arbarys wanted to establish a memorial for their daughter and could not think of a better way than setting up a scholar-ship that would support young people

with their education. According to Ken, “We love the school. The educa-tion at Mater Dei is phenomenal.”

Ken and Diana continue to find ways to support Mater Dei through the scholarship they have established. They are the owners of Carpet Bar-gain Center, and Ken recently began making rugs with the interlocking MD logo. They are selling the rugs from their store at 323 Division Street in Evansville. The rugs are in three different sizes. The 18-inch by 28-inch rug sells for $50; the 32-inch by 24-inch sells for $75; and the large 3-foot by 4-foot is $100. Ken also makes name rugs—individual first or last names—

and area rugs. Sales from all of these rugs are directed to the Michelle Diane Greenwell Scholarship. They make great Christmas gifts!

Tomorrow’s Work ForceThe 2014 Tomorrow's Work Force, an event that

honors the 2014 Student Leadership Award recipients from Mater Dei and Memorial High Schools, took place this past September. The program featured keynote speaker, Lin Dunn, college and professional women's basketball coach.

The Tomorrow's Work Force program is a partner-ship between community leaders and businesses and the Evansville Catholic High Schools—Mater Dei and Reitz Memorial High Schools. The goal is to further the educational opportunities of the community’s high school students. The support of business and industry is critical to the continued success of our young people as they become future business and community leaders.

The Tomorrow's Work Force program assists in three main areas of support: technology, science and faculty development.

Anniversary Annual Fund offers opportunity to honor someone special

For 65 years Mater Dei High School has provided a faith based education for the youth in the Evansville area. Throughout the decades, many people have made that education possible—teachers, parents, church members and community members.

Each year, Mater Dei has projects and programs necessary for the success of the student body and up-keep of facilities which are not fully funded by annual tuition income. The generosity of our Annual Fund donors ensure the success of our students today.

Mater Dei is honored to have Fr. David Nunning serve as the Anniversary Annual Fund Chair for 2014–15. He serves with his siblings who are all Mater Dei graduates: Marge Basden ’51, Madelyn Eickhoff ’53, Bernard Nunning ’56, Walter Nunning ’58, and Gerald Nunning ’64. Fr. Dave attended Mater Dei for one year before entering the seminary at Fr. Dewig’s urging. His service as

a priest to the Diocese of Evansville has made an impact across Evans-ville, in particular as the Bishop’s liaison to the Evansville Catholic High Schools and Mater Dei High School Board of Trustees. He retired July 1, 2014.

As the 65th Anniversary celebra-tion continues through the 2014–15 school year, Mater Dei friends and alumni have the opportunity to contribute to Mater Dei by giving to the Anniversary Annual Fund in honor of someone connected to the high school.

“This year, our gift will be in honor of our parents, Oscar and Marie Nunning. Won’t you please consider a gift to the Annual Fund worthy of this Anniversary Year? This special Anniversary Annual Fund is your opportunity to give a gift to honor someone who is con-nected to Mater Dei High School,” encouraged Fr. Dave.

Please join Fr. Dave in making a difference each day through an annual gift to the Mater Dei Anniversary Annual Fund.

Nearly twenty years ago, Jim Knapp ’68 was asked by his pas-tor at St. Wendel Catholic Church to use his woodworking talents to build a new crèche for the church, but it would

not be any ordinary nativity scene. What Jim eventually built was a contemporary crèche that reflected his deep faith and his fervent love for his parish, and it now serves as a beautiful way for Jim to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

The traditional nativity set at St. Wendel had been repaired so many times by parishioner Malcolm Adler, who also set it up each year, that he thought the church needed a new one. In 1995, Fr. David Nunning, who was pastor of St. Wendel at the time, had a vision of a new nativity scene that would reveal a Biblical history.

According to Fr. Nunning, the original inspiration for the con-temporary crèche was an exhibition of nativity sets in the lobby of a local bank which recalled the image of the Weihnachtskrippen in Tirol, where each artist and craftsman would attempt to interpret the nativity into the medium of his or her culture and circum-stances. The interior of the church at St. Wendel, with its particu-lar style of woodwork and ornamentation, beckoned for a unique

and particular setting for the crèche. “All that was needed was a true craftsman and Christian who could translate the idea into reality. I could not find anyone who could put the idea on paper, so I was searching for someone who could take the concept directly to the medium—especially to wood. Later we would find others to work with the glass and painting,” states Fr. Nunning.

He was well aware of one parishioner’s amazing talents. “Jim Knapp could understand a concept and execute it in wood or metal or whatever medium was needed. He was not only an incomparable technician but ultimately a true artist. He built the setting over a period of two years in his carpenter shop at his home,” said Fr. Nunning.

Jim’s wife, Elvira, recalls Fr. Nunning and Jim during the early stages of designing the nativity scene. “Instead of having dessert after a meal in a restaurant, drawings were made on napkins. They were in their own world while discussing the various possibilities. With each new drawing the excitement kept building. It was a true labor of love for both of them.”

Jim used wood that was preserved from the old organ chamber of St. Wendel to build the cathedral-style background and the

Symbolism in the Nativity SceneBy Fr. David Nunning

The centerpiece of the nativity set is the octagon, a favorite object of the church for remem-bering the eighth day of creation when all things are made new in Jesus Christ. The octagon, which bears the ancient story of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, displays on each side pane, at the top, the Greek letters for the name of Jesus, ίηϚ, and at the bottom, a pictorial reminder of the tree of Jesse from which Jesus is born.

Each of the other tables pres-ents symbols of individuals or groups from the family of Jesse. Each pane bears the abbrevia-tion for Christ in Greek: χρ.

The stylized stable represents Bethlehem, the place of Jesus’ birth, and Mary, the beautiful vessel of God. Her name is repeated in the Latin form, Maria. The cross reminds us that her child is no ordinary child, but destined to be the Savior: the very name of Jesus means “God saves.”

Light quietly pervades the scene: from the inside all is transformed. The divine and human are interlaced, the simple elements of earthly existence and the golden hints of divine glory. One can almost walk in between the pieces of this setting: indeed, we walk in the presence of Jesus and His life, and the mystery of His incarnation surrounds us every day of our life.

geometric tables, matching the already existing design of the reredos, the original altar. The painting was done by Dan Elpers; the Jesse symbols were drawn by Rick Lamble ’88 and executed by Charles Koressel ’69.

Fr. Nunning chose the symbols that would be incorporated into the nativity scene, which were the traditional Jesse Tree symbols. The idea was to make a crib appropriate for the church and one that would serve as a Catechism, especially for children, where they could see the story of salvation unfold before them. “It would have a magical quality for children because they could walk ‘inside’ the crib, and the traditional elements of Christmas decoration would all be there—evergreens, lights, ornaments, and statues. Above the crib would hang a moving mobile of stars, tables that lit the figures from below, and a stable that could not be distinguished from a palace,” explains Fr. Nunning.

The crèche was first used for Christmas in 1997. The contemporary nativity scene was much different than the traditional Christmas crèche, but St. Wendel parishioners under-stood what it represented. “Most recognized it as a labor of love and appreciated the exqui-site craftsmanship that it embodied. They received it as an expression of Jim’s deep faith and an expression of deep respect for the community and its worship,” shares Fr. Nunning.

Elvira remembers that “most people were overwhelmed with the beauty of it. I do recall some people saying it was too fancy. It was such a change from the old rough-wood stable that had been in the church for many, many years. Eventually, I think it was accepted as a wonderful tribute to the Baby Jesus. Each year many people who grew up in the parish come back to spend Christmas with their families. I remember seeing many of these people having their pictures taken with their families in front of the nativity scene. Jim was a humble man, but I’m sure he had a deep sense of pride when he saw that.”

According to Elvira, when Fr. Ed Schnur became pastor of St. Wendel Jim recognized Fr. Schnur’s talents in decorating and welcomed him to use that talent at Christmas, which meant using a different crèche. Eventually, Fr. Nunning asked to use the nativity scene at St. Agnes where he was pastor. It was an opportunity for more people to expe-rience it, and the crèche was displayed at St. Agnes for several years. Last Christmas, Fr. Schnur brought it back to St. Wendel as a tribute to Jim who had passed away two months before. “It was a beautiful gesture on his part,” Elvira recalls.

Jim’s legacy lives on in the parish where he gave so much of himself. Elvira reflects, “When I sit at Mass in St. Wendel Church, I not only feel God’s presence, I know Jim is there with me. Partially because I see several pedestals he built for statues in the church, but mostly because he so loved St. Wendel and the parish family. We were both baptized there and married there. Our daughters were baptized and were married there. And now Jim is buried there.“ And a beautiful Christmas crèche keeps memories of Jim even closer.

By Carol NurrenbernThis year the MDFAA will celebrate their 30 year anniversary

since the group was organized in early 1985. Recently, some of the founding members came together to share why this organization began, how it evolved, and its impact on the school. The first officers of the MDFAA, George Helfrich ’69, president, Paul Mayer ’67, vice-president, Linda Rheinlander ’59, secretary, Mary Lue Russler ’58, public relations and Bob Rheinlander ’59, the attorney who assisted with the writing of the articles and by-laws and the incorporation of the MDFAA, shared their memories of 30 years ago.

In 1985, Linda was a member of the Catholic High School Board and Jerry Layman was the Mater Dei parent representa-tive on the board. They were given the responsibility by the school board to form an alumni association at Mater Dei.

Also happening at the same time was a serious concern by members of the Mater Dei community about deferred main-tenance with the school building and grounds. The parking lot was full of potholes and crumbled pavement, and other repairs to the school needed to be made. So the timing for organizing a group to help raise money for the needs of the school was right on target.

In March 1985, the first planning meeting took place in Linda’s living room to determine a slate of officers. George recalls, “I got up to use the restroom and was elected president while I was gone.“ An Executive Committee was formed and then a Board of Directors was appointed that was to include an alumnus from every class year. Planning meetings took place every week until the first MDFAA Board of Directors meeting July 18, 1985, and the first full membership meeting September 19, 1985. George remembers, “We called 50 people and asked them to be part of the MDFAA. No one turned us down.”

Once organized, the first task of the MDFAA was to send a mailing to all alumni inviting them to become active members of the new association. The initial members provided seed mon-ey to cover any cost incurred by the MDFAA such as mailing costs. The first mailing was early September 1985 to over 5,000 alumni. General membership was $10 per year. Gift level clubs included a Wildcat Founders Club—$25; Mater Dei Century Club—$100; Red Key Club—$500; and Gold Key Club—$1,000.

Less than a year later in June 1986, the association had raised nearly $25,000. The group designated $6,000 to the high school for the purchase of a computer and other needs indicated by the principal. At the urging of Executive Board member Steve Sanford ’59, another $6,000 was used to establish the Mater Dei Friends & Alumni Endowment, staying in compliance with the

original by-laws that stated 25% of unrestricted contributions in a fiscal year would support a MDFAA endowment.

During the first year, several events were sponsored by the MDFAA, the first being a Pre-Homecoming Dance. The first annual MDFAA Golf Scramble took place May 4, 1986, at Helfrich Golf Course and has been held every year since. The first Campus Clean-Up began August 1986 and continues today. Alumni helped with repairs in and around the school providing needed materials and labor, and George states, “we never received a bill from any of them.“

The first annual Family Day Celebration was May 18, 1986, that began with Mass in the gym and food and games outside. Over 300 parents, students, and alumni attended in spite of inclement weather. In a press release, Family Day chairman Jerry Layman said the day “will be an unique opportunity for new students and parents to become acquainted

Mater Dei Friends & Alumni:

The theme this year for Catholic schools in the Diocese of Evansville is “A Family of Families.” This phrase describes the Mater Dei High School community today, yesterday and tomorrow—

in large part because of the Mater Dei Friends & Alumni Association (MDFAA).

Above: The first officers and founding members of the MDFAA pictured left to right: George Helfrich, Paul Mayer, Linda Rhe-inlander and Mark Freeman in 1985. Below: Bob Rheinlander, Linda Rheinlander, Mary Lue Russler, George Helfrich and Paul Mayer got together at Mater Dei recently to share their memories of how the MDFAA began.

A Family that Keeps Giving

with Mater Dei. We want to call atten-tion to the importance of the family unit of Mater Dei’s community.”

Through the efforts of Mary Lue and Tina Alcorn Schutte ’71, the first Red & Gold newsletter was written and mailed to over 6,000 alumni and friends by late 1985. In the fall of 1986, Principal Walter Bowman designated office space in the school building for a MDFAA office. Sharon Layman served as the first administrative secretary for the office. She and Clarita Ellert, along with other volunteers, began the tedious process of updating Mater Dei graduate class lists with current names, addresses and phone numbers and finding “lost” alumni.

In the years that followed as the MDFAA continued to grow, they funded many projects for Mater Dei which in-cluded the parking lot on the north side of the school, faculty and staff apprecia-tion, the elevator in the school, the seats in the auditorium, and many others.

Today the MDFAA has experienced some changes while staying true to its original purpose, as stated in the first by-laws, “to provide support for and promote the general welfare of Mater Dei and its students and faculty.” In the summer of 2010, the Evansville Catholic Interparo-chial School Board, which governed both Mater Dei and Memorial, was dissolved to create separate boards of trustees for

each school. A president-principal model was put in place, and the development functions of the Mater Dei and Memorial friends and alumni associations were moved to the responsibility of the school and led by the president.

According to Mater Dei President Dr. Timothy Dickel, “The MDFAA voted in agreement with this change in recogni-tion that the magnitude of the develop-ment and alumni relations program became more than a volunteer board could continue to manage. This arrange-ment is in place in over two-thirds of all Catholic high schools in the country. The change was largely due to the need of having dedicated staff members to run such a large development operation. We now have over 10,000 alumni and raise over $650,000 a year, and this amount does not include the $4.6 million Full of Grace Capital Campaign.”

“The MDFAA laid the groundwork for the development that can be done now,” Dr. Dickel notes. From 1985 to present, the association has raised over $3.5 million. Today, the MDFAA Endowment corpus is $400,000. As Bob Rheinlander commented, “We created a baby and it’s all grown-up now.”

Over the past 30 years, the alumni as-sociation provided enormous support in many different ways to insure that Mater Dei High School would be vibrant for the next generation of students. Much grati-tude is extended to the founding mem-bers who have contributed a priceless example of giving back to Mater Dei. And giving back is the very soul of the Mater Dei Friends and Alumni Association.

Playing in the first annual MDFAA Golf Scramble in 1986 is left to right: Bob Hamilton ’57, Steve Nurrenbern ’69, John Hamilton ’69 and Mike Forche ’69.

Clarita Ellert worked diligently for the MDFAA for many years. She is pictured here signing in golfers for the annual MDFAA Golf Scramble.

Sharon Layman was the first adminis-trative secretary for the MDFAA. She, along with many volunteers, created the first database of Mater Dei alumni.

This fall, 104 golfers played in the MDFAA Golf Scramble with the support of 38 business and individual hole sponsors.

He is not only a Mater Dei alumnus, but also a past parent who sent his five children to Mater Dei. His gift in kind to the Full of Grace Capital Cam-paign is what makes Mater Dei a “family of families.”

1960sJoe Gelarden ’65 was inadvertently left out of the article on volunteers at Mater Dei in the last issue of the Red & Gold. Joe has helped for many years maintain the grounds on the school campus. We thank Joe for all of his dedicated volun-teer hours to Mater Dei!

Sister Jane Michele McClure, OSB ’67, major gifts officer at Habitat for Humanity of Evansville, was honored with the vanderburgh Communi-ty Foundation’s annual Spirit of Giving Award for being a local philanthropist who serves by making resources available to do good.

Jean Blanton, president of the vanderburgh Community Foundation, said no one else in Evansville better exem-plifies the term philanthropist than Sr. Jane Michele.

“Without a doubt the first philanthropist we have ever honored who has taken a vow of poverty, Sr. Jane Michele makes our community richer because of her love and support for those among us most challenged in life,”

Blanton said.

Sister Jane Michele taught English at Mater Dei for 12 years. She served as the Communications Director for the Sisters of St. Benedict at the monastery in Ferdinand, was head of the admissions staff of Ferdinand’s boarding school for young women which is now closed, and worked as the Development Director for Evansville’s Catholic high schools for five years. In the summer of 2005 she joined Habitat of Evansville.

Sister said she realizes “that it’s really not about me, but it’s about all of us working together to achieve something. Because we’ll never be finished. A world where everyone has a decent place to live—we’re not going to be finished any time soon.”

She truly enjoys her work with Habitat. “I want to dedicate my life to something that will outlast it,” she said.

Friends & Alumni newsMandy Nurrenbern ’02 travels to the “end of the world” to teach

When Mandy Nurrenbern graduated from Mater Dei in 2002 and headed to Purdue University to pursue an education degree in Physical Education, she assumed she would graduate and get a job teaching somewhere in the Midwest. By her sophomore year in college, she was doing a year abroad in New Zealand, traveling to Australia, Fiji, and other countries when she realized the world was a whole lot bigger than she ever imagined.

After graduating from Purdue in 2008, Mandy’s first teaching job was at a school located in Mussoorie, India, in the foothills of the Himala-yan Mountains that she describes as “the prettiest place I have ever lived.” She taught physical education to students in grades 1 through 10. She was awakened in the early mornings by monkeys banging on the tin roof of her small house, and she met these same aggressive monkeys on the path to and from school. One of her best memories of her time in India was taking a sixth grade class white-water rafting on the Ganges River.

Mandy remained in India a year and returned to the United States to a job she had in college as a sports camp

counselor in Los Angeles, Calif. That summer she applied to the Peace Corps knowing it would take a year to be accepted. During the interim in the winter of 2010, she secured a job through AmeriCorps with the Montana Conservation Corps as a Youth Crew Leader. Based out of Kalispell, Mont., at the foot of Glacier National Park, she spent six months making community gardens for elderly people and building, clearing and maintaining trails throughout Glacier National Park.

She spent the next two years in the Peace Corps in Mozambique, Africa. According to Mandy, “My first two months were spent with a

family near Maputo where I learned Portuguese. My site after that was in a village called Makwakwa in the district of Mabote, in the province of Inhambane. I was in the south part of Mozambique, where people called it ‘Fim do Mundo’ (The End of the World). I taught English for the first two months, as was my primary assignment from the Peace Corps, but luckily the school knew I was a PE teacher, and they made me the PE teacher.” Having been on the rugby team at Purdue, Mandy taught her students rugby while in Mozambique.

She returned to the United States in 2013 and lived in San Diego, Calif., playing rugby for the San Diego Surfers women’s team and coaching

a girls’ high school rugby team. She spent a summer in Alaska with Campfire Alaska, and recently re-turned from the Dominican Republic and the British virgin Islands where she worked for vISIONS, an orga-nization that promotes community service. She is currently back on the continent of Africa leading col-lege students in service learning in Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

Mandy’s dream is to return to Mozambique to coach and develop rugby, as well as create a scholar-ship fund for girls and women to continue their education. “I want to start an organization that develops rugby and uses it as a tool for edu-cation and female empowerment in Mozambique,” she shares.

She also plans to continue to travel and learn about as many countries as possible. “I’m trying to fill up my map!”

Former Mater Dei English teacher Sr. Maria Tasto, OSB, passed away July 13, 2014, at the monastery of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, Ind.

Sister Maria taught at Mater Dei from 1962–68. In an article in the Red & Gold Winter 2012 edition,

“Whatever Happened to the Good Sisters,” she shared she had many fond memories of her years teaching at Mater Dei. She recalled the exchange of ideas and insights in her English and Journalism classes, and a very exciting bas-ketball sectional game that she never forgot.

She stated, “I firmly believe that the greatest treasure of my years at Mater Dei was the opportunity to work with such fine young people

and a faculty who were dedicated to a quality Christian education.”

The last several years she served in the spiritual ministry of the Sisters of St. Benedict directing retreats and serving as a spiritual director. She is the author of A Transformed Life DvD and guide-book and The Transforming Power of Lectio Divina.

CapitalCampaignExceedsGoalDear Alumni and Friends,

I am pleased to announce that we have exceeded our $4.6 million goal for the Full of Grace: Excellence for Tomorrow Capital Campaign. On behalf of the Mater Dei community, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the multitude of people who have supported this important endeavor. This campaign is advancing Mater Dei through multiple improvements that benefit every student we serve.

In particular, I would like to thank our leadership: Honorary Chairs Eileen and the late Jim Will, Sr., and our Co-Chairs Gil and Marcia Jochem and Dan and Laura Niemeier. Mater Dei Development Director Sarah Wagner also provided important support for the campaign. Over seventy individuals actively served on the Capital Campaign Cabinet and played a key role in our planning and solicitation efforts.

Over the next few months, we will begin finalizing commemorative opportunities and plan for a celebration. We are tentatively looking at the morning of Friday, May 1, for May Day Mass and a dedication. More information will be shared as we approach the date.

The $4.6 million campaign is funding areas related to academics, spirituality, facilities, extracurricular activities/athletics, and tuition assistance. Several major projects are complete, including the expanded and renovated media center, prayer garden, main gym restrooms, energy efficiency enhancements, and resource facility. In addition, several projects are in progress or planned for the future, including the entrance enhancement, technology enhancements, faculty development, baseball field, artificial turf football field, tennis courts, and an auxiliary gym renovation and expansion.

This campaign is the result of the strategic planning process that was initiated in 2011. Through that process, the Mater Dei Board of Trustees approved goals that included the completion of a capital campaign by the end of 2014. We were able to exceed our goal three months early. The campaign’s silent phase began in the late fall of 2012, and the campaign was publicly announced in September 2013. Projects are planned through the 2017–18 school year.

It is not too late to donate to the campaign. We have many needs as a school and anticipate some of our later projects could exceed the costs budgeted in 2012. Information is available at www.materdeiwildcats.com, or you can contact Sarah Wagner at (812) 421-5727 or [email protected].

I am truly inspired by the community's dedication to the Catholic education

provided at Mater Dei High School. This major accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of our faithful community. Thank you again for all you do. Mater Dei is a better place as a result of this campaign.

MarianEducationalOutreachEach year since 2000, Marian Educational Outreach (MEO) has provided financial support to the LIFE (Learning Is For Everyone) Resource program at Mater Dei. MEO is a non-profit organization and generates its funds from solicitation, grant writing and fundraising efforts.

In 2013–14, MEO provided $35,000 in funding which supplements teacher salaries for a full time resource teacher and a full time teaching assistant. MEO also supports professional development for Mater Dei and feeder school teachers.

This past school year, MEO provided iPads for all students in the LIFE Resource Program. Having a variety of technology resources available for students promotes independence and self-confidence and strenghtens educational and vocational success beyond high school.

We sincerely thank MEO for their generous contribution this past year and for their assistance in helping all students succeed academically.

A very special thank you to Butch ’66 and Linda Feulner for serving as co-chairs of the 2013–14 Annual Fund. Through their efforts and leadership, another very successful Annual Fund was conducted to support the mission of Mater Dei High School.

“During a year in which our community raised $4.6 million in the Full of Grace Capital Campaign, you were asked to continue sharing in our school’s annual fund drive. We are proud to report that you have once again been very generous in this effort, donating in excess of $287,000 this past year. Annual fund gifts, as you know, bridge the gap between our school’s budget and its

many pressing needs. Your level of sharing with our beloved school, in so many different ways, is truly remarkable. Thanks so much for all you do for our school and the students and families who are blessed by the Mater Dei ministry.”

Memorial Gifts /In Honor Of

Marianborries

In Evansville, April 1, 2014. Survived by her daughter, Christine Borries ’69, and her sons Thomas ’65 and Jim ’67. Marian and her late husband, Frank, were strong supporters of Catholic education. At the time of Frank’s passing, Marian and her children established the Borries Family Endowment at Mater Dei for a perpetual resource for the general operation of the school. At Marian’s passing, her children requested that memorial gifts be made to this endowment.

was a an avid enthusiast of his daughter’s participation in the Mater Dei Marching Wildcats. His family requested memorial gifts be made in his memory to the Mater Dei Band program.

RandyDick’78

In Evansville, August 17, 2013. Survived by his father, Thomas ’54, two sisters, Karen Dick ’82 and Kathleen Dick ’89, and brother, Tim ’76. Randy was a 1978 graduate of Mater Dei and taught physics and math at Mater Dei for over 14 years. Memorial gifts in his memory were made to the Mater Dei Science Department.

Evelynweiss

In Evansville, March 27, 2014. Survived by her

son, Roy, and her daughter, Linda Knapp ’67. Evelyn was a member of the west side Catholic community and a patron of both the Church and Catholic education. Because of her continued support of Mater Dei over many years, her family included Mater Dei as a recipient of memorial gifts in her memory.

Doloreswill

In Evansville, March 10, 2014. Survived by her son, Leonard Jr., and her daughters, Linda Hague and Cathy Rohner. Delores always held a special place for Mater Dei since her husband, Len Will, coached athletics at Mater Dei. At her passing, her family included Mater Dei for gifts in her memory.

MEMORIALGIFTSMany family and friends of loved ones who have passed choose to designate memorial gifts made at the funeral home in their memory to Mater Dei High School through the Mater Dei Annual Fund. Mater Dei accepts gifts which are restricted for a specific program or purpose, in addition to unrestricted gifts which are made available to assist with current school priorities. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the following families who honored their loved ones with gifts to the 2013–14 Mater Dei Annual Fund. May they find peace in knowing their memory lives on in the hearts of the Mater Dei High School community.
