When nice weather returns, the desire to go sit on a deck or terrace becomes al most irresistible. Despite ourselves, almost by instinct, we all wait for neighborhood restaurants and bars to open their terraces, because we all have one that’s our favorite; perfect for soaking up some sun while enjoying our favorite drink.

After a long, cold winter, sitting at a sidewalk cafe is always good for the morale: It’s relaxing. It allows us to take a break from the constant rush of daily life where everyone is always chasing after something. For some, it’s a game to watch people pass by and imagine their lives and thoughts. Others love listening to the conversations going on around them. When alone, it could be a great occasion to chat with the person at a neighboring table. Sidewalk cafes always have a friendly atmosphere, making it easy to exchange smiles and a few ideas.

If you’re traveling, there’s nothing better than discovering a sidewalk cafe overlooking a historic monument or breathtaking view. In Europe, sidewalk cafes are a part of daily life where regulars gather to talk and exchange local gossip. Whether you’re in Paris or Amsterdam, if the sun is shining, take advantage of a terrace to watch time go by! On our side of the Atlantic, the popular terrace at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans should not be missed for a beignet and coffee while enjoying the jazzy tunes of wandering musicians. This is one of the oldest terraces in North America, dating from 1862.

If you’re a potato fan, try some other root vegetables, such as celeriac, parsnip, or Jerusalem artichoke.

New placesSearch for restaurants where chefs work hard to offer an up-to-date menu fi lled with fresh foods. Look around, survey your

friends, and search the Web or the pages here; you’re sure to fi nd res taurants that serve delicious fusion foods inspi red by the culinary traditions of France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Thailand, Japan, Mo rocco, and the list goes on. Whether the sun is shining or the sky is overcast, having a delicious meal cooked for you at a restaurant is always a treat. Trendy, down market, exclusive or popular establishments always present the perfect opportunity to relax and chat or have a serious discussion.

Choosing a restaurant is always done with good food and fun in mind. Dressing up in your best clothes is a great way of turning an evening into a truly grand occasion. While some may delight in their culinary habits, others will never choose the same destination. Some will take pleasure in choosing the same restaurant, sitting at the same table and enjoying their favorite dish while others will love exploring new restaurants every time and always take delight in trying new dishes.

When out as a couple, choose a quiet, romantic atmosphere with soft jazz or love songs playing gently in the background. The meal can be accompanied by a good wine and you’ll be able to slowly savor several different courses.

Treat yourself !

Or, perhaps you’d rather a pub where a more festive atmosphere will reign. Here, you can enjoy sharing appetizers accompanied by a refreshing pitcher of beer. The meal, and especially the company of your loved one, will be wonderful.

For an evening with friends, restaurants allow you to share a meal that appeals to everyone’s individual taste without dealing with the cleaning up. If the group is large and you haven’t seen each other for a long time, it’s always a good idea to reserve a separate room where you can make as much noise as you want without disturbing the other customers.
