INTRODUCTION It uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed
network transmission path.
It uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body for the data transfer.
Communication possible through any part of the body.
Technically its completely distinct to wireless and infrared.
Achieve half duplex communication over the human body at a maximum speed of 10 Mbps

SEMINAR 2014
RED TACTON meaning:tacton: touch-act-on (action triggered by touching)red : symbol of warmth and love conveying the cordiality of interpersonal
communications.
RedTacton works on HAN (Human area networking).
RedTacton is a technology developed by Japanese company NTT.
It conforms to “Radio Frequency Exposure Protection Standard”(RCR STD-38).
Human body acts as transmission medium supporting IEEE 802.3.
5
WORKING Major components are a red tacton transmitter and a receiver
( electro-optic crystal and laser). Transmitter induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body. The weak electric fields pass through the body to a RedTacton receiver,
where it affect the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal. It works on the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic
crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field. Changes in the optical properties are detected by laser light, which is
then converted to an electrical signal by a detector circuit.

Touch
Touching, gripping, sitting, walking, stepping and other human movements can be the triggers for unlocking or locking, starting or stopping equipment, or obtaining data.

11
Broadband & Interactive
Bandwidth does not deteriorate even with half duplex operation & simultaneous access by many users !
Half Duplex, max speed -10 Mbps.

12
Any Media
In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media.
Conductors and dielectrics may also be used in combination.

Human Safety Safety is obviously the primary concern before the implementation of
this technique.
The transmitting and receiving electrodes of the Red Tactontransceiver are completely covered with insulating film.
So the body of the person acting as the transmission medium is completely insulated.
When communication occurs, displacement current is generated by the electrons in the body because the body is subjected to minute electrical fields.

ADVANTAGES Data loss during transfer is less. Use of minimum amount of power (of some milli-volt range). Security is more. No problem of hackers . It is very hard to pick up stray electronic signals
radiating from the body. More secure than Bluetooth-throughput is reduced by packet collision. Multiple transceivers can be used simultaneously. This is because RedTacton uses a proprietary CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense
Multiple Access with Collision Detection) protocol that allows multiple access with the same medium from multiple nodes.
Each transceiver card has an unique MAC addressSEMINAR 2014

DISADVANTAGES
Complex in Design. Widespread marketing campaigns and education. It can be useful within few centimeters only. It is expensive as compared to other mechanism. Not useful unless many people adopt it.

CONCLUSION
Performance is better as compared to other technologies within short distance.
In this technology there is no problem of hackers as our body is itself a media.
Red Tacton is an exciting new technology for Human Area Networking.
