A District that Perseveres

• Lowest funded District in area• About $15 million in cuts since

2003-04• Serving more students with less

resources• Increased class sizes, eliminated

programs, staff reductions, no raises for staff

Media Headlines Suggest . . .

• California has “fixed” public education

• Public schools finally have enough money

• Districts like ours are getting a lot more money

Page 10: REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Educating Every Child For Success Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) Presentation Fall 2013 1

LCFF Reality Does not increase overall level of spending Does not restore schools to 2007-08 spending until at

least 2021 Affected by California economic performance (impacts

path to target) Prop 30 expires before target spending is reached in

2021

LCFF Reality• Does not significantly raise California’s low ranking in

per-pupil spending:– On average, Calif. per pupil spending Is $2,475 less than

the rest of the nation (Source: California Budget Project, “School Finance Facts”, October 2013. www.cbp.org)

• Does not remove regulatory and reporting requirements to county and state

• RCSD still does not have actual numbers for 2013-14

and spend money• Big transition• Opportunity to define

values and spending priorities
