LIONS SOCCER PHILOSOPHYEvery Lion:• Will have the mentality and confidence to succeed

LIONS SOCCER PROGRAM GOALS• To instill outstanding character development through the

discipline of soccer• To be a winner and class act representing yourself, team, family

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS• Have Fun and Enjoy the Game

– Love the competition, challenges and success of the game.• Stay in shape mentally and physically

– Prepare yourself for practices and games. Do not let outside “stresses” affect your performance.

– Maintain good nutrition during the season. Cut down on junk food. No cokes of any kind during the season.

– To be the best you must train harder and faster than your opponents.

• Strive to be a better person and soccer player– Maintain a good attitude and stay self-disciplined.– Be a leader in the school, in the community, and on the field.– Understand the importance of teamwork for success and

contribute positively to our team.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS• Conduct yourself in a positive manner– NO PDA– NO cussing at any time in any language and no

inappropriate behavior– No drinking, drugs or smoking will be tolerated

• Stay Academically Eligible– No Pass. No Play. You not only hurt yourself but your team

as well.– Make academics a priority. Discuss conflicts with your

coach early so there are no surprises.– Grades will be checked every Tuesday, there will be

consequences for every zero and failing grade.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS• Be Responsible with Your Equipment– It is your responsibility to provide care, storage,

and return for all athletic equipment.– The athlete will be held responsible for all

payment of equipment, if not returned.• Quitting (FISA Athletic Handbook)– If you quit the team, you may not be allowed back

on the team. It is up to the discretion coaching staff. If you decide to go to another sport, it is up to the head coaches of those sports to decide if you can play or not.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

• Game Preparation– Everyone will help get the field ready for home games

and help pick up the field when finished. – For home games teams should be back and dressed out

prior to game time. Varsity athletes should be there for the start of the JV game and JV players will stay for the varsity match.

– Sit together and watch the game that is going on. Show your maturity, act with respect for yourself and Reedy.

– Athletes will never talk to a ref unless asked a question or is the team captain.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS• Practice is the Most Important Part of our Season– Be on time to practice. Proper practice attire, shin

guards/shoes on, and any injuries taped prior to practice.– Tutorials need to be taken care of before school or during

lunch. Any conflicts need to be arranged prior to practice.– No missing practices for any reason unless you have been

notified and made arrangements with me in advance. I must have a phone call or email from your parents.

– Everyone will help move goals and get out equipment as well as put everything up.

– Attendance of practice and school the day of the game is mandatory. The head coach must be notified if an athlete is ill and unable to attend practice or a game.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS• Traveling Rules

– Away games will have a predetermined departure time. Be On Time!

– All teams will travel together to and from games. Support equals success.

– Athletes must be in their assigned travel gear.– Music only allowed enough for you to hear, wear headphones.– Pick up your trash.

• Social Media (FISD Athletic Handbook)– Both pictures and language should be appropriate and up to

the expectation of the Student Code of Conduct in the FISD athletic handbook

– Unacceptable Examples: Use of profanity, inappropriate gestures, suggestive pictures, hazing, threats, alcohol, etc.

• Personal Appearance and Grooming (FISD Athletic Handbook)– Hair – Needs to be clean, well-groomed and styled; Bleaching

and dying hair is unacceptable– Body Art/Piercing – Tattoos and piercings should not visible

when representing FISD as an athlete. Tattoos need to be covered with tape/band aids while body jewelry can be taken off.

• School vs Club Expectations (FISD Athletic Handbook)– All school practices and games will take priority over club

practices and games. An effort will be made to work with an athlete in club sports.

– If you miss a school game for club, you will miss the next school match as well

• As a Reedy Lion soccer player, all players and coaches will adhere to the 4 way test to strengthen us as a unit of one:

• Coaches believe in Coaches• Coaches believe in Players• Players believe in Players• Players believe in Coaches• This model will ensure that a belief system is in place to

garner success at all times! It is a model that must be used and incorporated daily to achieve maximum success.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

• Support The Team and Players Unconditionally– You never know who is in the stands. Make comments

positive and constructive.– We are all here for the team, not the parents. Don’t

become the center of attention by arguing with referees or yelling at players, and coaches on the other team.

– Do not coach your daughter…let the coaches take care of it. Too much coaching can actually harm soccer players.

– Follow team guidelines and support the coach to ensure success.

– Make as many games as possible to support the team.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

• Communication is Key– Keep an open line of communication with the coaches.– Issues should not be addressed after a game or practice.

The “24 hour rule” should be followed. Allow 24 hours to let tensions cool before contacting the coach.

– If you want to have a meeting, a time will be set up when a coach, parent and the athlete will be present. Do not ask about playing time, game strategies and other players.

– Write a note, call, or send an email informing the coaches at least one day before your daughter will miss practice, game, meetings or any events. Emergency situations will be considered. This communication must come from a parent.

3 Strike PolicyWe will operate with a 3 strike policy for our athletes. The following infractions could result in a strike against

an athlete:-Failing on a report card (through duration of school year)-Discipline issues at school, ISS, OSS, etc.-Disrespect of player, program, school or coach on any

form of social network.-Inappropriate behavior toward class mate, team mate,

LHS staff members in a school setting. -Repeated tardies/absent from practice

Infractions will be documented, parents will be notified and extra conditioning will result. Program strikes do not carry over from the previous school year.

Sharing of athletes

No female athlete will be told that they cannot be involved in as many activities as possible at RHS. (This decision will be left to athlete and parent) Coaches will communicate with student athletes and each other to share “honest information” when asked by athlete concerning specific issues.

Off Season

Student athletes will be expected to be involved in the off season of the upcoming season that they will be participating in. Coaches will communicate and work together to work situations that are in the best interest of multi-sport student athletes.

Understanding and respecting the position of both parents and coaches will help enhance the athletic experience for our kids.
