IntroductionThe Reef Trust is an innovative mechanism designed to consolidate investment in the Great Barrier Reef and deliver funds strategically to maximise outcomes for the health and resilience of the Reef.

In collaboration with natural resource management regions, business, the non-for-profit sector, industry and the community, the Australian Government’s Reef Trust seeks to address the highest priority threats to the Reef through critical areas of investment—improving water quality and coastal habitat along the Great Barrier Reef, controlling outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish and protecting threatened and migratory species.

The Reef Trust logo is a key mechanism for recognising the involvement of organisations, industry, the community and the Australian Government in the management and protection of the Great Barrier Reef through the Trust.

Correct and consistent branding of the Reef Trust through the logo maximises the recognition of the work being delivered, and allows investors, partners and delivery organisations to promote their involvement in the Trust.

The logo must be used as supplied and documented in these guidelines.

The Reef Trust branding guidelines apply to all materials produced for projects funded and delivered through, and in partnership with, the Reef Trust. The guidelines are to be used in conjunction with the Australian Government branding guidelines (www.pmc.gov.au/sites/default/files/publications/australian-government-branding-design-guidelines.pdf ).

Logo usage

The Reef Trust logo should be used in publications, reporting, communications and promotional material relating to the funding and delivery of projects through, and in partnership with, the Reef Trust. This includes developing operational material (such as manuals), brochures, maps, presentations, videos and in social media.

The Reef Trust logo should be used with the Australian Government logo. An exemption from co-branding with the Australian Government can be sought from the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. (For example, when using the Reef Trust logo on products such as stationery and uniforms).

The Australian Government branding guidelines outline requirements and correct use of the Australian Government logo. The Australian Government logo must take the position of prominence either above or to the left of the Reef Trust logo. The Reef Trust logo must be no larger than the Australian Government logo.

Logos of partner and delivery organisations, environmental approval holders and investors may also appear alongside the Reef Trust logo, in accordance with the co-branding guidance below.

Reef Trust partners must not use the Reef Trust logo for broader corporate materials or for other purposes that do not directly relate to the funding or delivery of a Reef Trust project.

Co-brandingInvestor, partner and delivery organisation logos can appear alongside the Reef Trust logo.

The logos of investor, partner and delivery organisations involved in the funding and delivery of a Reef Trust project must be co-located when used with the Reef Trust and Australian Government logos. This is to ensure equal acknowledgement of all parties involved in the funding and delivery of a Reef Trust project.

The Australian Government logo, when presented with investor, partner and delivery organisation logos, must appear first (in order of left to right), followed by the Reef Trust logo, and then investor, partner and delivery organisation logos in alphabetical order. All logos, including the Reef Trust logo must be no larger than the Australian Government logo.

Exclusion zonesTo ensure maximum impact, and to maintain the integrity of the Reef Trust logo, the logo must always be presented clear of other graphic elements.

An exclusion zone must be kept around the Reef Trust logo to ensure it is clear of other images, text or graphics. The exclusion zone is defined as the distance from the top of the shield of the Coat of Arms to the bottom of the shield of the Coat of Arms. Example of the exclusion zone is shown below:

Minimum size The minimum width of the Commonwealth Coat of Arms on stationery and larger items must be 20mm. However, on items such as name badges and identity cards where it may not be possible to adhere to this, the Coat of Arms may be altered in width, but must remain recognisable. When the Commonwealth Coat of Arms is used at its minimum width, the Reef Trust logo should not be wider than 32 mm.

Colour It is intended that the Reef Trust logo be reproduced in colour.

When full colour is not possible, a mono or greyscale version of the logo can be used.

When in colour, the Reef Trust logo should be reproduced on a light or white coloured background.

Some flexibility can be given to accommodate the Reef Trust logo being reproduced in colour, however the integrity of the logo should not compromised by a lack of contrast (i.e. a light coloured logo on a pastel or light coloured background, or a dark coloured logo on a deep or dark coloured background).

The logo should never be placed over an image or heavily textured background or as a tint of a colour.

The example below illustrates the Reef Trust logo reversed out of a dark coloured background.

Approval must be sought from the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment to reproduce the Reef Trust logo in a colour that is not in line with specifications outlined above.

Incorrect use of logoThe integrity of the Reef Trust logo must be maintained at all times. Only logo image files supplied by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment should be used.

Extraction of Reef Trust logos from documents (including this document) through scan or copy should not be used. The Reef Trust logo should not be reverse engineered, manipulated or altered in any way other than size (ensuring they are scaled proportionately and in line with minimum and maximum size requirements).

The Reef Trust logo proportions (height versus width) or the elements within the logo should not be altered. The number of colours, font and rotation of Reef Trust logos should not be changed or skewed.
