Our Legacy Of Service In 1924 Wilfred and Anna Reeves established Reeves Funeral Services in the 500 Block of East Division Street in Coal City. At that time the facility was primarily used as an office, floral shop and seamstress shop due to the preparation and wakes being held within the homes. In 1938 the new funeral home located at 75 North Broadway in Coal City was erected and it was at this time that visitations and services began to take place at the funeral home instead of the homes of the deceased. Wilfred and Anna’s two sons, Charles and James took over the business in 1957 after the death of their father Wilfred, and their mother Anna then passed away in 1966. In 1957, Wilfred and Anna's son James opened a Morris Branch, and this location continues to operate at 408 East Washington Street in Morris. James and his wife Sylvia had three children: Lorna, Elaine and Leo, and raised their family in the Morris funeral home. After the death of James in 1989 and Sylvia in 2000, Leo and his wife Karen continued on with the operations of both the Coal City and Morris funeral homes. Matt Baskerville joined Leo and Karen in 2003, and in 2007 the funeral homes expanded to serve the Gardner community. Reeves Funeral Homes, Ltd. of Coal City and Morris acquired the former Gardner Funeral Home and completely renovated and remodeled the late 1800's structure located in downtown Gardner. In December of 2007, the funeral home officially reopened, and has since been providing unparalleled service to families of Gardner and the surrounding areas. A new page in funeral service history was begun in December of 2010, when Matt Baskerville was pleased to announce the acquisition of Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington. This funeral home held the longest standing history of funeral service in the community, and throughout the years went by the names of Addleman Funeral Home and DesRochers Funeral Home before being purchased by Roger Freitag in 1979. Initially operated as Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, the name was changed to Baskerville Funeral Home in 2013. Matt is the funeral service professional that the community knows, trusts, has counted on in the past, and can be relied upon in the future. Today, Matt Baskerville is privileged to carry on the fourth generation of long time honored tradition, trust and service excellence that has been established over the past century. Annually since 2007, Reeves Funeral Homes, Ltd in Coal City has been a recipient of the National Funeral Directors Association Pursuit of Excellence Eagle Award. This award is the highest commendation in funeral service, and has placed us as one of only a very select few funeral homes in the state of Illinois, and among the top two percent of funeral homes nationwide. This same honor has been granted to Baskerville Funeral Home annually since 2010. Reeves Funeral Homes, Ltd. was included in the Hall of Excellence with the National Funeral Directors Association in 2016, and in 2018, Reeves and Baskerville Funeral Homes were extended the first Illinois Award of Funeral Service Distinction by the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. Our funeral homes are the only local funeral service providers to have a full time staff of Certified Prearrangement Consultants, Certified Funeral Celebrants and Certified Crematory Operators. Matt grew up in rural Wilmington and is a son of Violette (Hansen) Baskerville and the late Robert M. Baskerville, Jr. Matt graduated from Wilmington High School and attended Joliet Junior College, National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois and Northwestern University, as well as Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois. Matt has been a licensed funeral director since 1995 and holds an Illinois Life Insurance Producers License to handle prepaid, prearranged funeral services. He has earned the designation as a Certified Preplanning Consultant (CPC), as well as a Certified Crematory Operator (CCO) by the National Funeral Directors Association, and also maintains his credentials as a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) through the Academy of Funeral Service Practice. In addition, Matt assists families as a Certified Funeral Celebrant, and acquired his training through the Insight Institute with reclaimed author and bereavement educator Doug Manning and Glenda Stansbury. Matt’s musical abilities gained his involvement with the Reeves family since the early age of 12. It was during his junior high years that he began playing the organ for funerals on a regular basis. For over 30 years, he has continued to provide music for most of the local churches of all denominations. Matt is a member of St. Rose Parish in Wilmington, where he has been involved with the music ministry since 1987; represents the parish on the Diocese of Joliet South Will-Grundy Pastoral Deanery, and has served on the Parish Council. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Oakwood Cemetery Association in Wilmington; belongs to the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce, Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, the Wilmington Downtown Merchants Association, and also served as Secretary, and a Board Member for The Wilmington School District 209-U Foundation for Excellence. Matt is a member of the Will County Funeral Service Association, serves on the board of directors with the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, and is honored to be involved with the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), where he serves as a committee member for the Pursuit of Excellence Program, and is also on the Spokesperson Team for the association. He was selected as a Mentor for the NFDA and Funeral Service Foundation’s Meet the Mentors Program at Emory University in 2018. Matt attended the very same program as a Mentee at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and became the first Mentee to be asked to return as a Mentor to young up and coming funeral directors from across the United States. Matt has also served as a presenter for NFDA and participated in workshops including topics such as providing award winning service, working with families who have lost loved ones to tragic death and creating a legacy as a first generation funeral director. Matt has a passion for service to families, and has been blessed to build a team of loyal co-workers that hold the same core values and dedication to funeral service.

Terms of Payment

As the person(s) arranging for funeral services, you accept several obliga�ons for related expenses. At the conclusion of making funeral arrangements, a preliminary Statement of Funeral Goods and Services will be completed and presented for your acceptance. Your signature on the statement will indicate that you accept this obliga�on personally and in any official capacity you may have. Therefore to avoid any misunderstandings, Reeves Funeral Homes, Ltd. d/b/a Baskerville Funeral Home has adopted the following terms for payment of funeral expenses.

1) At the conclusion of the arrangement conference or 1 day prior to performing services, payment of an amount equal to the ini�al cash advances may be required.

2) A final statement will be sent to you approximately 7 days after the funeral service. The balance will be due within 14 days from the date of the arrangement conference.

3) If full payments of the funeral expenses are not received within 14 days of the due date, a late payment penalty of 1.5% per month (18% per annum) in addi�on to a rebilling fee of $25.00 will be added to the unpaid balance.

4) In the event that full payment is not received within 90 days of the due date and other arrangements have not been made to pay the account, it will be turned over to legal counsel and pursued by all legal means. Any and all expense rela�ng to legal and collec�on fees will be added to the unpaid balance, in addi�on to a rebilling fee $25.00 per month.

5) Package prices are only valid when all services and all merchandise are purchased from the funeral home.

6) The funeral home reserves the right to require funeral expenses to be paid in full prior to providing any funeral services. Payment for our charges may be made in the form of cash, personal check, money order, or credit card. We gladly accept Visa and MasterCard
