Smoothly blends power and delicacy and finishes very long and spicy.’

2016 Fortress Cabernet Sauvignon 19.99Sonoma, California. A blend of Knight’s and Sonoma Valley fruit that way over-delivers. “Forward, supple and fruity, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Sweet floral notes add nuance to the red berry and plum fruit in this mid-weight, open-knit Cabernet.”

2018 Elio Perrone Moscato d’ Asti Sourgal 19.99 Piedmont, Italy. “Classy and polished, with lovely orchard fruit, mint and floral notes. Impeccably balanced.”

Delamotte Brut Champagne Cuvee Nicholas Louis 39.99Champagne, France. A classic and classy Champagne for any occasion. “Vibrant aromas of lemon pith, pear skin, and honeysuckle. Firm, chewy, and dry.”

2007 Richter Mulheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Spatlese Feinherb 27.99Mosel, Germany. A late release from Richter’s cellar. “Elegant aromas of apricot pit, strawberry and lemon. Bosc pear flavor with a discreet saline acidity form the backbone of this nicely balanced spatlese. The long finish offers a splash of mineral salt and lemon.”

2018 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 22.99Marlborough, New Zealand. Made by Kevin Judd, the man that put New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the map. “Ripe stone fruit and pineapple aromas are lifted by flowers, spice and anise. Plush and round, but with nicely integrated acidity giving shape to the peach, grapefruit, and nutmeg flavors.”

Red Wine For The Cellar

2012 Calera Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard 99.99Mt Harlan, California. “A racy, voluptuous wine, the 2012 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard shows the radiance of the vintage. It can be enjoyed today, but will be even better in another few years, once the aromatics develop more fully and some of the baby fat drops off. 96 pts, VM.

2013 Produttori del Barbaresco Montefico 69.99Piedmont, Italy. “Shows all the energy and focus that is typical of this great site. All the elements are simply in the right place.” +96 pts, VM

2013 Produttori del Barbaresco Ovello 69.99Piedmont, Italy. “All power, tension and nerve. Has a Volnay-like purity to its fruit, with Nebbiolo tannins and structure, of course. If that sounds appealing, well, it is.” 96 pts, VM

2014 Produttori del Barbesco Rabaja 74.99Piedmont, Italy. “Powerful, dense and explosive, with tremendous intensity of fruit and structure.” 96 pts, VM

2014 Produttori del Barbesco Asili 74.99Piedmont, Italy. “Somber and dense in this vintage. Silky Asili tannins bring out the wine's voluptuousness and soft contours. Dark red cherry and plum fruit show some of the typical Asili sensuality, but the 2014 is a powerhouse that is going to need time to come around. 95 pts, VM

2014 Mt. Eden Vineyards Pinot Noir 69.99Santa Cruz Mtns, California. “Pliant, deep and expressive wine. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, mint and wild flowers gradually reveal themselves, but the wine needs a few years in bottle to shed some of its baby fat and for the tannins to soften. In this vintage, Mount Eden's Pinot Noir is a wine of real gravitas and power.” +93 pts, VM.

2013 Heitz Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Linda Falls Vineyard 199.99Napa Valley, California. “Dark plum, charcoal embers, leather, licorice and lavender infuse the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Linda Falls Vineyard with tremendous depth and textural resonance. Deep and layered, with plenty of staying power, the 2013 has a lot to offer in a distinctly powerful, brooding style”. 93 pts, VM

Spottswoode easily ranks amongst the finest estates in Napa Valley. Their complete commitment to quality shows in the complexity ageability of their estate Cabernet.

2016 San Giusto a Retennano La Ricolma 224.99

“A potent yet refined Merlot. A wine of mind-blowing purity, density and explosive power. Readers who can find the 2016 should not hesitate…” 100pts, VM

2015 Chateau Haut Brion Pessac-Leognan 1er Cru Clssé 849.99

“This impeccably poised, exquisitely perfumed Haut-Brion possesses the most alluring yet seemingly effortless beauty. The 2015 cannot fail to satiate and intellectually edify all lovers of great Bordeaux who drink it.” 100pts, WA

The wines of Château Haut-Brion have been known and revered since at least 17th century. They rank amongst the most iconic and long-lived in Bordeaux.

2015 Domaine Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 349.99“Thick in the way of the vintage but with terrific energy and definition to the flavors of citrus fruits, herbs and spearmint. Utterly fine-grained wine with outstanding density, lift and rising length. A great 2015 in the making.” 94-95 points, VM

2016 De Cherisey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny 129.99“A lovely Puligny with great structure and freshness offsetting the beauty of the Chardonnay fruit. On the finish there is a vibrant, fruit and mineral taste that leads to an elegant finale.”

"The 2013 Clos de la Roche Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, from vines planted in 1905, has an inviting, delineated bouquet with vibrant wild strawberry, raspberry preserve and mineral notes. The palate has great tension – so suave and poised with superb symmetry and an effortless finish that I don’t think the Clos Saint Denis has at the moment. Laurent Ponsot did not disguise his enthusiasm for this Grand Cru and I could understand why.” 95-97 pts, WA

2017 Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut Lieu 42.99“Displays an intense yellow color and offers a fascinatingly pure and chalky/smoky bouquet of crushed stones and ripe, well-concentrated fruit aromas. Round, lush and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy, very refined and elegant Vouvray with delicate tannins, good structure and sensual, slightly sweet fruit. The finish reveals great power but also grip, salt, finesse and enormous length. This is a pretty great wine, and it can age for decades, although it already drinks very well.”

Celebratory Bubbles

Jacques Selosse Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Inital 209.99

“A blend of the 2012, 2011 and 2010 vintages from Avize, Cramant and Oger. Wafting from the glass with aromas of dried fruits, peach, vanilla pod, toasted nuts and beeswax, it's full-bodied, layered and textural, with a vinous, multidimensional profile that remains racy and precise despite its power and concentration, concluding with a long, delicately vino-inflected finish.” 94pts, WA.

“Absolutely gorgeous. Deep, fleshy and wonderfully expressive, the flavors are racy and boldly sketched throughout. Raspberry, mint, dried flowers, rose petal and star anise all fill out the wine's ample, radiant frame.”
