Verulam Bluehouse Verulam, South AfricaCapacity: 120 m3/d Type: municipalContracted: 2016 Commissioning: exp. in 2017 Q4

This WWTP will be located close to residential areas in the city of Verulam on the site of the existing facility. The WWTP for Verulam treats a significant amount of industrial effluent and there are complaints from residents regarding odours from its operation.

The current plant has 12 MLD hydraulic capacity, but is over-loaded in terms of influent COD; it receives about double the concentration initially anticipated. The plant therefore requires urgent upgrading of its COD treatment capacity and addressing of its odour concerns.

The Organica Facility at Verulam will take some loading off of the existing facility and will also serve to demonstrate the application of FCR for an upgrade of the entire plant which is the next phase of the project.

Organica is the world leader in Fixed-Bed Biofilm Activated Sludge (FBAS) technology.

FBAS leverages the use of various natural and engineered media to provide a fixed habitat for a diverse fixed-film bacterial culture which metabolizes the contaminants in wastewater. These populations of organisms live in an attached form on fixed bed media inside the reactors, as opposed to being in constant motion as is the case with conventional technologies such as Activated Sludge or MBBR. Providing a stationary habitat allows an incredibly diverse and robust biofilm to grow and thrive inside the reactors, ultimately offering significantly improved nutrient removal, energy efficiency, and resiliency, all in much less space than conventional technologies.

With nearly two decades of experience in the development and design of fixed-film wastewater treatment solutions, Organica’s

FCR (Food-Chain Reactor) represents the best-of-breed in FBAS wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The Organica FCR is a complete wastewater treatment solution, including solids removal, biological treatment/nutrient removal, phase separation, and final treatment for reuse quality (if required), all incorporated into a compact, single structure. Organica Water provides all necessary products and engineering services for the design, construction, and operation of Organica FCR WWTPs.

Organica boasts more than 80 treatment plants either operating or under construction across the globe. Founded in 1998 in Budapest, Hungary, Organica has references in 4 continents of the World. Every wastewater solution is unique and specifically designed for each situation and environment. Organica’s architects and engineers take special care to create solutions to meet the needs of each water challenge.

Suryacipta City of Industry is planned, developed and man-aged by PT Suryacipta Swadaya as a full serviced industrial estate, well equipped with infrastructure and supporting services. The 1,400-hectare industrial estate is located in Karawang, 55 kilometers east of Jakarta, with direct access to Indonesia’s major high tech industries such as automo-tive, consumer goods and construction materials. This installation is part of a comprehensive se-ries of wastewater treatment solutions, and will at-tain 40 000 m3/day capacity combined when finished. The design of the facility is adapted to the warmer climates of the Indonesian regions, and will use a unique shading structure, instead of the regular but still appealing green-house design.

Waduk Melati IndonesiaCapacity: 2 000 m3/d Type: municipalContracted: 2012 Commissioning: exp. in 2018 Q1

This installation will be located in the prestigious center of Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, only a few hundred meters from Plaza Indonesia and the UOB Builiding in JL HM Tharmin. The rapid development of this region demands a strong infrastructural base, and Organica Water’s localized solution grants an OPEX-wise reasonable treatmant plant without the need of enoromous piping costs.

The odourless operation and the unique, pleasing design does not only make this plant eligible, but desired to be built in the central areas of Jakarta.

This facility will not only serve as a means of wastewater treatment solution, but a milestone in green, environmental infrastructural solution in the Indonesian area.

The WWTP will replace an existing wastewater treatment plant that is based on conventional activated sludge technology. The owner of the site chose the Organica FCR solution to free up land for further development, while simultaneously maintaining the value of the land in the surrounding area.

In addition, thanks to the reduced sludge production and energy demand compared to the current facility, the ope rator of the WWTP will realize important savings on operational expenses.

Aesthetics also have a great importance regarding this project; instead of the usual greenhouse look, the Organica design included a unique shading structure, giving a pleasing and picturesque apperance of the facility.

Bhatpara is a suburban town near the city of Kolkata, situated on the Banks of the Hooghly River. It is an important industrial hub for jute processing units, with a population of around 400,000. Our project delivery partner, L&T is constructing two facilities: one of 10 MLD and another of 31 MLD. As a part of the drive to clean the river water, the facilities are being set up to treat the wastewater before discharging into the Hoogly river.

Crown Promoters & Developers (CPD) is developing a township in Gharaunda (Karnal) in Haryana, India. The new development includes 463 houses which will produce 1 100 m3/day of wastewater once fully occupied. In order to get planning permission CPD has to ensure on-site wastewater treatment.

The available land for the WWTP is limited and located adjacent to the new buildings. Organica offered a solution which could be seamlessly integrated into the urban environment and fit in the designated area.

Thanks to its attractive, botanical garden-like appearance and completely odorless operation, the WWTP will have no impact on the value of the neighboring real estate while meeting the future wastewater treatment needs of the community.

Demonstrating the applicability for the upgrade market, Organica introduced its technology to an aging WWTP in Budapest. The plant was at maximum capacity leading to water quality issues in the Danube River and odor issues for nearby residents. The encroaching development of the surrounding neighborhood towards WWTP property left it with no room to physically expand. To address these issues, the Organica solution was called upon.

The result was a 1.5 fold increase in capacity with zero increase in footprint and a complete aesthetic transformation. Additionally, overall energy and operational efficiencies of the treatment plant were improved, all having been implemented with no operational interruptions during construction.

When planning a resort community on a beautiful island in a coastal area of China, finding a wastewater treatment solution that would not negatively impact the landscape was of critical importance.

The Organica solution provided unprecedented flexibility in urban planning as the wastewater treatment plant for the entire community fit inside a traffic circle.

The establishment of on-site wastewater infrastructure was critical for meeting local regulations. With the Organica solution in place, this challenge could easily be met while setting an example of sustainability in resort development.

Foxconn Electronics Inc. assembles products for most of the global electronics firms, including Apple’s iPhones and iPods. One of their largest manufacturing plants is in Shenzhen, China, employing more than 200 000 workers who live on site in a densely populated community with very little green space.

In accordance with national regulations, the industrial park needed a water solution to meet the area’s growing water needs. In such a populated region with little space available, the Organica solution easily fit into the urban space, and currently produces clean water for reuse purposes.

Telki is a fast growing residential community home to some of the most valuable properties in Hungary. Because of this growth its original wastewater treatment plant grew to overcapacity and became unsightly to nearby residents.

Organica’s wastewater treatment design fit into the limited space available using the same site as the previous treatment plant.

Organica also built a strong working relationship with the community, resulting in permission to build a research and development facility housed in the old structure adjacent to the new wastewater treatment plant.

Gallicoop Corporation operates the largest poultry processing plant in Eastern Europe. The company expanded so quickly that the public utility began charging them extra for their wastewater.

Organica designed Gallicoop its own water treatment facility, constructed in the middle of the food processing operations campus. The plant’s effluent meets the strictest standards and saves Gallicoop considerable wastewater disposal costs.

The pristine community of Le Lude sits right in the middle of the Loire Valley. Le Lude needed to update and expand its water treatment facility to meet new water quality standards. Organica’s design fit the look and feel of the community, resembling a greenhouse instead of a traditional wastewater treatment plant. The greenhouse design and odorless results blend the WWTP into the landscape and maintain the community’s tourist appeal.
