Consequently, every member of the family should strive to make the home a wholesome and harmonious place as its atmosphere and conditions will greatly influence the child's development. Due to lack of supervision from parents, they lose their childhood virtues. Instead, they’re in the streets begging for money and food or even stealing to provide for their families and to suffice their vices. In one scene, “Bunso” was fighting with his mother and saying bad words against her, I don’t blame the kid for doing that because I can see from the film that his mother doesn’t show respect at all. “Respect begets respect” – how can a child respect their parents if their parents doesn’t respect and act upon the rights of their children? At the end of the film, I felt terribly sad when two of the kids were affirmed dead. Anthony died due to the enlargement of his heart and Tisoy/Bunso was hit by a car.

My Thoughts on the Documentary Film “Bunso”

“Bunso” is a documentary film that imprisons the three young children who werecharged and unnerved in a provincial jail for adult prisoners in Cebu City. It divulges thesituation of the “Juvenile Justice System” in the Philippines. It was filmed in Cebuanothat's why it’s easier for us to understand and to feel the expressions along with. It’sabout the daily lives of young kids who were put to jail. They have exhausted their livesin frustrating conditions in congested cells together with the adult prisoners. It centreson the experiences of the three kids known as Anthony, a 13 year-old boy who cares for his family so much that he was accused of stealing money to provide for his siblings;Diosel, an 11 year-old boy who was put to jail by his father after he got trapped stealingfrom a store and; Tisoy (also known as Bunso), an 11 year-old boy who was ignored by

his parents and was put to jail because of stealing money in order to sustain his “rugbyobsession”.

I felt sympathy for those kids having no clothes to wear in rainy days. I also feltpity seeing them trying to dry the floors so that they could sleep. These kids are notsupposed to be in prison, they are supposed to be in school. Art. 3 Sec. 6 of “THE

CHILD AND YOUTH WELFARE CODE ” states that: Every child has the right to aneducation commensurate with his abilities and to the development of his skillsfor the improvement of his capacity for service to himself and to hisfellowmen.

Art. 1 Par. 3 states that: The molding of the character of the child startat the home. Consequently, every member of the family should strive to makethe home a wholesome and harmonious place as its atmosphere andconditions will greatly influence the child's development. Due to lack of supervision from parents, they lose their childhood virtues.
