Reflection of the Gospel: The promises of God are for everyone. That may seem obvious
to many of us, but it was an insight the first Christians had to
struggle with. Even during Jesus’ ministry, the disciples were
not ready to believe that God’s Messiah had to come to every-
one to invite them into God’s Kingdom. When a foreign women
reach out to Jesus for help, Jesus tested the bystanders by quot-
ing a familiar proverb: “It is not right to take the food of the
children and throw it to the dogs.” But then when Jesus healed
the woman’s daughter anyway, he not only surprised a lot of
self-righteous people, he began something that would eventual-
ly blossom into a worldwide mission to the Gentiles. In the
Church Jesus founded, being a child of God is no longer de-
pendent on being born into a particular group of people. It is
available to everyone, as God said through Isaiah, “My house
shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” Therefore, a
major part of Jesus’ ministry was to break down the cultural
barriers that divided people and encourage a new way of look-
ing at people, especially those who were the outcasts in that
society. Jesus talked to foreigners, ate with tax collectors, for-
gave sinners, and even touched lepers. For him, holiness is not
in the external things, but in a person’s heart, and the Kingdom
of Heaven is open to all who will turn their hearts toward it. As
Christians, we are really brothers and sisters by choice, not by
chance. But this also means we have to resist the temptation to
like at anyone as an “outsider.”
Reflexión del Evangelio: Las promesas de Dios son para todos. Eso puede parecer obvio
para muchos de nosotros, pero fue una idea con la que los primeros
cristianos tuvieron que luchar. Incluso durante el ministerio de
Jesús, los discípulos no estaban listos para creer que el Mesías de
Dios tenía que venir a todos para invitarlos al Reino de Dios.
Cuando una mujer extranjera le pide ayuda a Jesús, Jesús puso a
prueba a los espectadores citando un proverbio familiar: "No es
correcto tomar la comida de los niños y arrojarla a los perros".
Pero luego, cuando Jesús curó a la hija de la mujer de todos mo-
dos, no solo sorprendió a muchas personas justificadas, sino que
comenzó algo que eventualmente se convertiría en una misión
mundial para los gentiles. En la Iglesia que fundó Jesús, ser un hijo
de Dios ya no depende de nacer en un grupo particular de perso-
nas. Está disponible para todos, como Dios dijo a través de Isaías:
"Mi casa se llamará casa de oración para todos los pueblos.” Por lo
tanto, una parte importante del ministerio de Jesús fue derribar las
barreras culturales que dividían a las personas y alentar una nueva
forma de ver a las personas, especialmente a los marginados de esa
sociedad. Jesús habló con los extranjeros, comió con los recauda-
dores de impuestos, perdonó a los pecadores e incluso tocó a los
leprosos. Para él, la santidad no está en las cosas externas, sino en
el corazón de una persona, y el Reino de los Cielos está abierto a
todos los que dirijan sus corazones hacia él. Como cristianos,
somos realmente hermanos y hermanas por elección, no por casua-
lidad. Pero esto también significa que tenemos que resistir la
tentación de querer a alguien como un "extraño".

AUGUST 16, 2020 TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Some Words from the Pastor: Persistence in prayer is very essential in
our life as Disciples of the Lord. No matter
what we need to persevere in our prayer. There
is one huge intention that we, in the whole
world, are offering to God, i.e., to have an end
to this global pandemic. It is so easy to lose faith in prayer as
the pandemic continues to affect us despite the fact that we
have been praying for an end to it since day one. And yet cases
have kept on surging, and the number of deaths increasing. Let
us not lose hope. Let us keep on storming heaven with our
prayers and pleas. We may disturb the saints in heaven with
our persistence, as the disciples were bothered and annoyed by
the Canaanite woman in the gospel begging the Lord to help
her. We have to be steadfast in in our faith, like this mother,
especially during these difficult times. The mother was
appealing to Jesus for her daughter who was tormented by a
demon. She loved her daughter so much that she wanted this to
stop. The persistence of this mother paid off as Jesus would
commend her for her great faith.
We are all tormented by this demon called COVID 19. And we
are continually praying for an end to this pandemic. We have a
mother who continues to intercede for us, our Blessed Mother.
Whenever we celebrate the mass, or gather for meetings, we
always ask for the intercessions of the Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Let us continue to seek for her powerful intercessions for all of
us. Through her prayers, miracles of healing and recovery keep
on happening. Our safety and protection reveal the fact that we
are guided by her maternal protection. We are not alone in our
continued struggle with this pandemic. Our Blessed Mother is
with us interceding for us to her Son Jesus Christ. Let us keep
our eyes on the Lord who assures us of his powerful and saving
presence. That in the midst of this adversity, he tells us, “Do
not be afraid. It is I. “We pray that he may increase and
strengthen our faith through the intercession of Mary, his
mother and our mother too.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for us.

people. But adults who use social media to connect with the
children in their lives need to be sure that they are building
appropriate relationships. Before sending a friend request, consider
the “PAN” standard. While used commonly for appropriate real-life
touch, in today’s increasingly virtual use, PAN is a good benchmark
for online interactions. Communications should be Public,

Algunas Palabras Del Sacerdote: La persistencia en la oración es muy
esencial en nuestra vida como Discípulos del
Señor. No importa lo que necesitemos para
perseverar en nuestra oración. Hay una gran
intención que nosotros, en todo el mundo,
estamos ofreciendo a Dios, es decir, poner fin
a esta pandemia global. Es muy fácil perder la fe en la oración
ya que la pandemia continúa afectándonos a pesar del hecho
de que hemos estado orando por el final desde el primer día.
Y, sin embargo, los casos han seguido aumentando y el
número de muertes aumenta. No perdamos la esperanza.
Sigamos asaltando el cielo con nuestras oraciones y súplicas.
Podemos perturbar a los santos en el cielo con nuestra
persistencia, ya que los discípulos estaban molestos por la
mujer cananea en el Evangelio rogándole al Señor que la
ayudara. Tenemos que ser firmes en nuestra fe, como esta
madre, especialmente durante estos tiempos difíciles. La
madre estaba apelando a Jesús por su hija que fue atormentada
por un demonio. Amaba tanto a su hija que quería que esto se
detuviera. La persistencia de esta madre valió la pena ya que
Jesús la felicitaría por su gran fe.
Todos estamos atormentados por este demonio llamado
COVID 19. Y rezamos continuamente por el fin de esta
pandemia. Tenemos una madre que continúa intercediendo
por nosotros, nuestra Santísima Madre. Cada vez que
celebramos la misa, o nos juntamos para reuniones, siempre
pedimos las intercesiones de la Virgen de Guadalupe. Sigamos
buscando sus poderosas intercesiones para todos nosotros. A
través de sus oraciones, siguen ocurriendo milagros de
curación y recuperación. Nuestra seguridad y protección
revelan el hecho de que nos guía su protección materna. No
estamos solos en nuestra lucha continua con esta pandemia.
Nuestra Santísima Madre está con nosotros intercediendo por
nosotros a su Hijo Jesucristo. Mantengamos nuestros ojos en
el Señor que nos asegura su poderosa y salvadora presencia.
Que en medio de esta adversidad, nos dice: “No tengas miedo.
Soy yo. “Oramos para que él pueda aumentar y fortalecer
nuestra fe a través de la intercesión de María, su madre y
nuestra madre también.
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, ruega por nosotros.
