Reflection on Assignment Two and Peer Workshop

Looking back on assignment two first let me say it was a beast. I enjoyed the work but it was a lot. As with assignment one my peer workshop was awesome. They participated both days, came to the table with valuable feedback and were on time. One of my strengths was giving my reader that necessary visual. I think I gave good detail on what business casual and professional dress is in the workplace. I included some photos but I also gave clear verbal details on various smaller items such as stockings and jewelry. After reading the paper I truly feel like you should know what business casual means. I usually do not procrastinate so I had time to read my paper a few times and did find the need to revise and edit. Especially some sentences that I thought were too long. I also feel that writing the introduction after the fact was very helpful per your suggestion. It really did make sense to do it that way because my introduction truly came from the research and not the reverse.

In terms of feedback I received from Brittany and Charles, they really took the time to give the paper a through read. One of the first suggestions was to jazz up my titles. I think this is one reason you did not want to provide a template because I just automatically stuck to the titles in the template. However, I took the feedback and stepped out there and changed my titles. They are not what I would consider jazzy, but I think they go nicely with the topic. Something else that was helpful was there was two literature review points (Chaney & Martin, and Kiddie) that I used word for word in separate places. The group suggested I reword it because it sounded redundant. They both said “I feel like I just read that.” So I kept the quote in the first place it appeared and the next time only mentioned the information. Some feedback I used that was not from the group but something you put on moodle from observation one. You mentioned that since I was part of the world it would have been nice to see how I fit in that world. Perhaps make things a little closer to home. I thought about that and my introduction so I went back and reworked my introduction to include a personal fashion mishap I had in the workplace. The story actually adds something it shows that we all struggle from time to time and why the topic is of personal interest. The group provided some grammatical corrections I used the word err and it seemed awkward. I removed that word and reworked the sentence all together. There was this big goof on the footnote. I entered it as a footer and not as a footnote so there was a problem of it being on every page. Just goes to show attention to detail is important. That was corrected as well.

There was some feedback I left out the group mentioned the connections in my areas of Business Casual and Changing Times in my Literature Review needed perhaps to be done over because they felt the connection of information was not there. I read it over several times and I feel it has the proper flow I wanted to convey. There were some sentences that I rewrote but for the most part I left those areas as they were of course changing any grammatical errors that they pointed out.

Finally, I think one of the ways I went above and beyond was designing my event flyer and agenda for the seminar as I outlined in my paper. I then went back and tied the seminar flyer with the paper by adding it to the Here’s what I think portion. Also, adding the various photos of business appropriate dress I felt was a good visual for the paper.
