Reflections and evaluations(national groups)

Step 1 (45 – 60 minutes)What were your most striking experiences or findings based on what you have seen and heard (Dutch participants) or based on the questions the the Dutch have raised (Estonian participants)?

How do you interprete these experiences? To what extent do they change your view on your own practice with respect to teaching and learning?

Step 2 (30 - 45 minutes)Reconsider your poster on the OECD trend: relate your insights from step 1 to your trend and add it on the poster.

Page 5: Reflections on the schoolvisits Reconsidering the OECD trends Towards a joint inquiry into a subtrend

Discussing the trends(five international groups)

• Present and explain your poster to the other participants. Focus on the interpretation of the trend.

• Identify differences and similarities of perspectives on the trend: try to explain the different perspectives with respect to the different backgrounds.

• Identify the subtrends which illustrates the contrasts between the two countries the most?

• Which of these subtrends will impact education the most?

• Make a new poster in which you present and explain the most contrasting and impacting subtrend(s) (maximum two subtrends)

Page 6: Reflections on the schoolvisits Reconsidering the OECD trends Towards a joint inquiry into a subtrend

Poster exhibition

• The posters are at the wall•One person stays with the posters (to answer

questions and to write down relevant comments)• In 4 rounds of 7 minutes all other participants

get to know the most contrasting and impacting subtrends, can ask questions and raise comments.

Introduction of the joint assignment

Prepare a short ppt / poster answering the following questions (max. 10 Min of presentation

and one poster which is prepared in Amsterdam):

• Subtrend on a national level: Why is this subtrend discussed in your two countries? What

is the reason behind? What kind of national policies are developed in reaction to this

subrend?

• Subtrend on a school level: How are your schools dealing with the subtrend. What are the

chances / what are the troubles? Have your schools formulated any policies in reaction to

this trend?

• Subtrend on a class-room level: How are teachers dealing with the trend in classrooms at

your schools. What are the chances / the troubles?

• Over all the levels: How do you explain the differences?

Undeniably global: the globalisation of economies, as shown through growing trade and levels

of foreign investment.

How would you position this trend within the Boland Letschert framework?

How does this subtrend influence factors or facts? Are there any reactions on this subtrend on the level of the

schoolsystem? Which? Are there any reactions on this subtrend visible in your

bodies which are related to this theme?‒ Which?

‒ Which are the most applicable?

• Are there already evaluative or prospective research reports available?‒ Which?

‒ Which are the the most applicable?

• Select the most interesting ones (2 max pro person), make short

summaries of them in English (about 400 words) for your partners and

put them in your workingspace on GoogleDrive

Page 15: Reflections on the schoolvisits Reconsidering the OECD trends Towards a joint inquiry into a subtrend

Guiding questions on the schoollevel

• Are there any schoolpolicies formulated related to the subtrend?• Are these schoolpolicies formalised in documents? Which?• Are these schoolpolicies discussed but not formalised? When? How?

Are there minutes? Outcomes of workshops et cetera?

Page 17: Reflections on the schoolvisits Reconsidering the OECD trends Towards a joint inquiry into a subtrend

Choosing a subtrend (individually)

• Choose one of the most contrasting and impacting subtrends; make sure it is a subtrend you are really interested in.• Think about key-words which illustrates your interest in this

subtrend• Think about a question you want to answer by deepening

yourself in this subtrend• Make a shield on which you reveal

• The subtrend of your choice• The WHY of your choice• The question you want to have answered

Page 18: Reflections on the schoolvisits Reconsidering the OECD trends Towards a joint inquiry into a subtrend

Finding partners

• Raise your shield an walk around

• Find partners with the same interest

• Discuss your mutual interests shortly

• Decide whether to cooperate or not

• Result:18 tandems or tryads existing of one Estonian partipant and one or two Dutch partipants

Page 19: Reflections on the schoolvisits Reconsidering the OECD trends Towards a joint inquiry into a subtrend

Preparing a projectplan

• Formulate your joint questions for inquiry• Plan where and how to search for relevant

documents• Set out a timeline•Make appointments for communication and

cooperation• Prepare a short presentation on your projectplan
