Regard 3900 Modbus Gateway
Instructions For Use
2
Purpose The Regard 3900 Modbus Gateway is needed for the communication between the control unit Regard 3900/3910 and the visualisation panel RVP 3900. The visualisation panel receives data from up to 8 control units and displays them in a graphical form. Every system needs its own Regard 3900 Gateway. The gateway transforms the CAN bus data from the Regard 3900/3910 in to the Modbus protocol. This Modbus data is needed for the visualisation of the Regard 3900 System. Before using the Regard 3900 Modbus Gateway it has to be addressed. The addressing is carried out via a null modem cable, software and a configuration file. Example:
Regard 3900/3910 System
Gateway Address Modbus Address
RVP3900 Max. 8 Controller

For this procedure there is a CD containing the program and the configuration file. A null modem cable is also included in the package. By using more than one unit the termination resistors (Jumper 1 and 2) have to be set on the last used Regard 3900 Modbus Gateway in the bus system. NOTE: It is NOT possible to run the program directly from CD. First you have to copy it onto a local hard drive. Installation and configuration Copy program to a local hard drive Before using the program it is required to to copy it from the CD to a non write protected local hard drive. You'll find the software on the CD in following path: D*\Software\RMG3900conf\ D* is standing for the local CD drive. Copy the folder 'RMG3900conf' to a destination of your choice. The program does not need a installation routine and can be started directly.

Addressing the Regard 3900 Gateway Set jumper 3 from to the Boot Mode (from position 2 to 3). Connect the null modem cable to the PC/Notebook and gateway. Connect the 24 VDC power supply. Start software "FlashWrite.exe" (on CD in folder "Software"). Select a free COM port on the PC/Notebook (default COM port is COM 1). pic.1 start software / select COM port
4
Click "File Open" in the program window and chose the required configuration file. The configuration files are deposited in to the folder "Regard 3900_idX" ("X" is standing for the number of the address) (pic.2). Controller No. 1 = File "Regard 3900_id1" Controller No. 2 = File "Regard 3900_id2" Controller No. 3 = File "Regard 3900_id3"… When the folder is opened choose the file "New_SX67012.sx" (pic.3). pic.2 ""File Open"

pic.3 choose configuration file and open
After choosing the configuration file the path will be showed in the program window. Now press the "Download" button. The communication will be set up and display the message "STEP DEVICE: connected" (pic.4). pic.4
6
Whist the file is downloading the following messages are shown (pic.5; pic.6) pic.5 file download
pic.6 download completed
When the download is finished the message "OK Done" is shown (pic.6), in the bottom right hand side of the program window. The gateway is now addressed. The program can now be closed. De‐connect the null modem cable and the power supply from the gateway. Remove the jumper 3 from Boot Mode (from 3 to 2).
