INTRODUCTION

A regenerative brake is an energy recovery mechanism

which slows down a vehicle or object by converting

its kinetic energy into another form, which can be either

used immediately or stored until needed.

It consists of a generator, battery and three phase rectifier.

The most common form of regenerative brake involves

using an electric motor as an electric generator.

In this system the generated electricity is fed back into

the supply system.

Working

The prime mover provide the kinetic energy to the generator.

The generator converts the mechanical energy into electrical

energy.

The output of the generator is three phase ac. By using a three

phase rectifier, this ac is converted to dc and stored in the

battery.

The output of the battery is fed to the rotor of the separately

excited generator through a variable resistor.

When the rotor gets the dc supply, it will magnetize and provide

breaking.
