T.A.S.T.E. is a project that lasts two years. This project

involves students from different countries in order to learn new languages, different cultures and to introduce foreign students to other countries.

Each class has to explore its area through one of the five senses. One of the symbols of the town of Parma is the “Teatro Regio”.

The class 3°A OSS, had to develop the sense of “Touch” and decided to show you a guided tour through the backstage couture, where we had the opportunity to see some of the clothes used during the opera.

When we visited the workshop of the Teatro Regio in Parma, the“Simon Boccanegra” was beenPerformed. Simon Boccanegra is a

pirate who lived in the 400/500, that’s why the costumes look like medieval clothes.

The materials used for these clothes are of different kinds: cotton, silk, linen, velvet, wool ...

The material is chosen depending on the role of the characters and their personality, all actors’ costumes must be adapted to the individual figure depending on the face and its features.

Often fabrics are dyed or aged, depending on the type of material. The choice of materials and colours is very important and is usually made by the costume designer.Script and costumes are closely related, it takes approximately one week to make a very elaborate dress. Very often the clothes are hired from other theaters, sometimes they are new, it’s very important that even the smaller detail, fits to the whole.
