From 1967, UNESCO co-operates with the Association of International Private Committees for the Safeguarding of Venice. The Association was accorded special relationship status with UNESCO in 1997. A new cooperative agreement with UNESCO was signed in 2006.

Safeguarding Albanian Folk Iso-PolyphonyPreservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage: the Albanian folk Iso-polyphony was proclaimed in 2005, a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Aim: facilitate the safeguarding of this unique multi-voice tradition. This project, will be implemented by the Albanian Music Council, member of IMC/UNESCO. (UNESCO/Japan Funds-in-Trust )

Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) At the UN Millennium Summit, which took place from 6-8 September 2000, in New York, world leaders issued the Millennium Declaration and identified 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs):

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2. Achieve universal primary education 3. Promote gender equality and empower women 4. Reduce child mortality 5. Improve maternal health 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases 7. Ensure environmental sustainability 8.
