In light of the CSME Member States need to:
Develop Standards that are common;
Focus on learning rather than on teaching, so that free movement across the region will not hamper learning at any level;
Ensure that the curriculum is developmentally appropriate for each grade level including children with special needs;
Ensure that the curriculum is integrated into and coordinated with the school curriculum;
Ensure that it includes clear strategies and materials for students and programmeassessments
RATIONALE
All children and youth need a well-planned physical education curriculum that begins from the earliest grade levels, receives strong support throughout the school, is understood and reinforced at home, and supported by a comprehensive health and family education (HFLE) programme and other related programmes
VISION
PURPOSE
To Provide authentic experiences for the development of positive social behaviors
and desirable values
Promotes attitudes and behaviour that reducehealth risks, and foster the development of healthy
lifestyle for life
Opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge toward advanced movement and sport literacy.
Should be an integral part of education process
PRIMARYSCHOOLS
MIDDLESCHOOL
Includes body management, manipulative and game skills, educational dance, and fitness.
Includes opportunities for students to become proficient in a wide variety of movement forms at modified levels of skill and complexity and to acquire beginning knowledge related to assessing and developing personal fitness programs.
Quality Physical Education
HIGHSCHOOLS
Provide opportunities for students to become competent and proficient in several movement forms elected from a variety of choices.
Students should be able to:
- design and develop a personalized physical fitness program,
- participate regularly in health-enhancing physical activity beyond the physical education class, and
- meet the gender and age group health-related physical fitness standards
Intended to provide Physical Education in each territory with ideas and suggstions that can be used in a sound Physical Education Curriculum
To facilitate a regional approach to teaching and learning bringing consistency to programme delivery across the region and to serve as a direction for teachers newly assigned to Physical Education instruction
