Quantum Spinoff: Connection Schools with High-Tech Research and Entrepreneurship

The Quantum Spinoff course will support to connect school science with nano-research, and show how this is all leading to emerg-ing, sustainable, technologies giving rise to a growing field of entrepreneurship in the nano-industry. Read more here: http://qs.ea.gr/

CREATIONs - Developing an engaging classroom

The CREATIONs Summer School introduces innovative approaches and activities that involve STEM teachers and students through creative ways based on the arts. Read more here: http://creations.ea.gr The presented and offered tools and resources that will be used in all courses are not limited to their thematic domain. Instead they can be applied in a broad range of syllabus areas and scientific topics, because they do not impose a fixed curriculum but intend to support a model that can be customized based on location, culture and school, as well as cross-disciplinary situations. This way the resources and methodologies taught in the courses are ideal to be used in a European context for differentiated instruction.

At the end of the 6-day ISE Academy 2016 the participants will:• Know and understand the concepts and skills of inquiry based

science education (IBSE) and its various applications taking into account different teaching and learning styles;

• Bring into their classroom a unique collection of digital resourc-es and tools that are based on real-world problems;

• Appropriately select and exploit freely available eLearning tools and resources to create educational scenarios that suit their own needs;

• Understand the concept of “Big Ideas of Science” as a mean of building multidisciplinary activities;

• Be able to develop strategies on how to embody and deploy new methodologies into the curriculum and their everyday sci-ence teaching practice;

• Be acquainted with the potential of popular social media tools, science outreach websites and teachers’ communities;

• Be part of the ISE European community where teachers, teach-er trainers, education policy makers, practicing scientists and

others are included to expand the learning environment be-yond the school walls and expand opportunities for teachers’ professional development;

Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) is an essential and im-portant part for pupils and students education. IBSE enables students to develop key science concepts (e.g. big ideas of sci-ence) which empower them to understand the events and phe-nomena of relevance in lives. However, teaching IBSE entails ambitious learning goals for students and is thus com-

plex and challenging for teachers to enact. Moreover, many teachers have not experienced IBSE instruction as learners and thus need guidance in enacting this type of instruction. Teach-ers must learn different instructional strategies as well as also re-conceptualize or change their conception about the meaning of teaching.

What is Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE)?

Your participation in any ISE Academy 2016 course can be funded by the Erasmus+ Programme (Key Action 1, Mobility project for school education staff). Teachers interested in the ISE Summer Academy 2016 can apply to their National Agencies for an Eras-mus+ funding. The applications are submitted by the schools, and no individual personal applications can be submitted. The deadline

for funding applications is February 2nd, 2016, 12:00 (noon) CET.Eligible countries for Erasmus+ funding are the 28 EU member States, plus Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and FYROM. Since the course is taking place in Greece, all par-ticipants from Greece are unfortunately not eligible to apply for an Erasmus+ grant to attend it.

Funding by Erasmus+

The steps to follow to apply for an Erasmus+ (School Education Staff Mobility) grant are:• Contact your National Agency to obtain information on the

grant application procedures in your country. • Contact us by e-mail (see contact details) to express your in-

terest in our courses and if you need assistance with the ap-plication procedure. By doing so we will reserve places for your school/organization.

• Register your school/organization on the European Commission Authentication Service (ECAS) if not already registered.

• Log in to the Participant Portal with your ECAS account details and register your organization to obtain your unique Partici-pant Identification Code (PIC), if not already registered.

• Download the application form for School education staff mo-

bility of the Erasmus+ Programme from the website of your National Agency.

• You will receive our application assistance form, giving useful guidelines on how to fill it in.

• Fill in and submit the application form to your National Agency. The deadline is February 2, 2016, 12:00 (noon) Brussels time.

• Do not forget to inform us as soon as you get notified from your National Agency whether your grant application is ac-cepted or rejected.

• After having submitted the funding application, fill in the reg-istration form to the ISE Summer Academy 2016 with your de-tails. This is an individual registration form, so if there is more than one participant from the same school, each one will have to submit a separate registration form.
