When do I need to register the birth?Within 42 days of the child being born.

Where do I register the birth? All births taking place within the Borough of Swindon must be registered at the Swindon Register Office. If this is difficult for you and you live in another area you can attend your local register office and make a declaration which will be forwarded to the Swindon Office. We will then post your birth certificates to you.

Who can register the birth? If you are married to each other when baby is born either of you can register the birth. If you were not married to each other at the time of birth or conception Father’s details can be entered if he attends the register office with the mother to complete the registration. If Father cannot attend please contact us to discuss.

What information is needed?Date and place of birth (if the baby is one of twins or triplets we will need the time of each birth)First names and surname and sex of baby.
