Guest Teacher: Robert McOwenRobert began Scottish country and highland dancing in Berkeley, California in 1973. He received the Teaching Certificate of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) by examination in Scotland

in 1980, and since then has taught at dance camps and workshops across the United States, and in Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. Robert became a member of the Scottish Dance Teacher’s Alliance in 1987, and has taught, competed in, and performed highland dancing at various events across the United States, including Bonnie Rideout’s “Scottish Christmas” Tour 1999-2005. In 2002, he and Karen Mahoney formed Highland Dance Boston, which has choreographed and performed many dances at Scottish events in the Boston Area. In his “spare time”, Robert is a Professor of Mathematics at Northeastern University.

Judi

NiclolsonJudi comes from the North East of Scotland, although classically trained from an early age, her passion was to play Scottish traditional fi ddle. By the age of 15 she had won three Open Scottish Fiddle Championship

competitions and after guesting at many festivals and clubs became involved with Scottish groups and bands, playing for Scottish Country dancing.

As well as two solo albums early in her musical career, she has numerous recordings with Scottish dance bands, and has published a book of her own compositions.

A qualifi ed violin teacher, Judi taught both classical and traditional fi ddle in Scotland.

In Summer 2008, Judi, husband Ian and their two children relocated to Katy, Texas where Judi continues to teach privately, and plays for Scottish Country dances, workshops, and Ball’s throughout the United States and Canada. This will be her 5th year playing for the dancers at TAC Summer School.

Lisa ScottA native of Portland, Oregon, Lisa is an accomplished pianist and teacher. Coming from a musical heritage, she began her studies early and continued on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree at Lewis and Clark College. She studied the art of accompaniment at the University of Southern California and in New York City. Returning to Portland, she began Scottish Country Dancing and soon earned her Preliminary Teaching Certifi cate. This led in turn to the Scottish piano and through the years she has played in the United States, Canada, Japan and at St. Andrew’s Summer School in Scotland. Lisa has had the honor of being a musician for many TAC teacher candidate classes and particularly enjoys the teamwork between tutor, musician, and candidates. Lisa’s sensitivity to dance rhythms and her lyrical style make her music a joy for dancers.
