Overview
• What is it and why is it important?
• RIPE Database: Assignment Registrations
• Protecting your resources
• RIPE NCC Support

Resource Registry Data
• Registration information about the holder of a resource and resource holder’s contact details
• Increasing external focus on data quality
• Logged in different places:
- RIPE NCC delegated statistics on ftp.ripe.net
- RIPE Database
• It does not include language, geolocation, routing or rDNS information

Why Register Assignments?
• RIPE Database = Public Internet resource and routing registry database
• Registering assignments is a policy requirement
- To declare address space as in use
- To provide contact information

More Information
• Both prefixes are from the same /20 IPv4
• LIR located the networks in different countries by using the corresponding “country:” code
• Possibility to provide extra information using “geoloc:” and “language:” attributes
Most important:
• Register assignments in the RIPE Database! - As required by the policies of the RIPE community

Different Levels of Contact Details
• Public information
- Registered in the RIPE Database (“admin-c:”, “tech-c:”, “zone-c:”, “abuse-c:”); responsibility of the resource holder
- Persons/departments to contact in case of network issues
• Details shared between LIRs and RIPE NCC
- RIPE NCC shares LIR-related information with contact persons, accepts resource or transfer requests from a contact person
• Both need to be maintained and kept up-to-date
![Page 13: Registry Data Quality](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022022202/587a5d0a1a28ab520b8b6e53/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Arne Kiessling | RSNOG 2 | 22 November 2016 13
• RIPE NCC accepts requests from LIR contact persons
- Including requests to transfer resources away
- Outdated contact information can cause issues
• RIPE NCC performs further checks whether a transfer is authorised
- Due diligence
- Thorough evaluation of required documents (Transfer Agreement, Company Registration Documents)
What can happen if not maintained?

IPv4 Transfers - Within the Region
• Average of ~180 transfers per month
![Page 15: Registry Data Quality](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022022202/587a5d0a1a28ab520b8b6e53/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Arne Kiessling | RSNOG 2 | 22 November 2016 15
More on Transfers
• Per policy, IPv4 resources are locked for transfer for 24 months after issue date or previous transfer
- Currently no such restrictions for IPv6 resources or ASNs
- Resource transfers to your organisation can cause problems with geolocation
- Buy locally or invest in your IPv6 deployment

ARC Goals
• Keep the registry clean and up-to-date
• Make LIRs aware of any inconsistencies withregistry data
• Support LIRs with their registration tasks
• Stay in contact with our members
