Hey Rehab Ralliers, Anne here!

It's hard to believe 2011 has arrived – time truly flies by when you’re having fun!

It’s been five great years now that HomeCEUConnection.com has been providing rehabilitation professionals with value-driven, high-quality home study courses. Since the beginning,

we have heard from thousands of you regarding your experiences with our company, and we are truly thankful for all the kind words.

Based on your shared experiences, a few of you have steered clear of live seminars, due to the expense and time require-ments. However, we’ve had an overwhelming response from MANY of you that love the live seminar experience and wished there was a way to combine the live experience with the value proposition. We also recognize that there is a large group of therapists that really enjoys the value and convenience of home study courses, but are limited by state rules and regulations, and must take live courses.

For the reasons mentioned above, we have taken a big step in order to meet the continuing education desires and needs of all our customers. Ladies and gentlemen (drum roll please)…. We are proud to announce Rehab Rally Conference & Expo 2011! We have planned a three-day “Live” conference experience, providing you with the ability to attain up to 20 “Live” contact hours. These seminar sessions have been designed with you in mind, and to knock your socks off! The stunning Gaylord Palms Hotel in Orlando, Florida will be the event’s host facility. Shortly after your arrival, the Rally will begin! The open-ing reception will offer you the opportunity to mingle with peers, visit with exciting Exhibitors about all things therapy and party the night away.

But wait - there’s more! We have secured discounted, remarkable rates at the Gaylord Palms Hotel for pre- and post-conference dates that will allow you to extend your fun and enjoy one last vacation with the family, before school begins. Additionally, we have secured special unpublished rates at popular local attractions, just for you and your family!

And I’ve saved the best for last! In true HomeCEUCon-nection.com fashion, we’re going to allow attendees to bundle “Live” courses with home study courses, making the value proposition even greater. With one phone call, you can have all of your CEU requirements met – convenience and quality at an outstanding value!

We are hopeful that you will be as excited as we are and will decide to join us at the Gaylord Palms Hotel for Rehab Rally Conference & Expo 2011. It’s going to be GREAT!

Friday, July 29th 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.Session 101: Pharmacology for the Rehabilitation Specialist - The Orthopedic Patient Suzanne L. Tinsley, PhD, PTRehabilitation professionals often encounter patients prescribed a multitude of medications used to treat musculoskeletal dys-function and additional, unrelated co-morbidities. This seminar will use case examples to present a brief summary of some of the medications often seen in musculoskeletal dysfunction and to demonstrate the relationship between a patient’s medications and therapy. Stress will be placed on medications used in the management of pain and inflam-mation. Furthermore, the seminar will acknowledge other medications often seen in the orthopedic patient.

Tract 1: Orthopedic / Sports Medicine

Friday, July 29th 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.Session 102: Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Orthopedic Conditions Carmen Thompson, BS, LPTA, CMT, CLT Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Orthopedic Conditions will an-alyze the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system as it relates to caring for orthopedic conditions, injury and post-op ede-ma. After understanding the correct indications and contraindica-tions for treatment, attendees will receive an insightful summary of how manual lymphatic drainage can create a major influence, with positive results, in clients with orthopedic and post-op ede-ma. By easing inflammatory edema and stimulating the lymphatic system, many patients have a swift reduction of edema and pain, leading to a timely recovery, in terms of function.

Saturday, July 30th 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.Session 103: The New Science of Therapeutic Taping- Theory, Practice and Treatment Progression Andrea Wolkenberg, PT, MA, CKTI Graceann Forrester, PT, DPT, CKTITherapeutic taping has progressed over the past several decades from being a modality that simple prevents injury by prohibit-ing or limiting motion to one that can influence muscle function, release fascial restrictions, improve circulation, support tendon and ligament, and prevent pathological movement patterns. This course will explore the major taping techniques currently in use. Attendees will learn the basic theory, function, and application principles for each, with special focus on the Kinesio Taping Meth-od. Through lecture and demonstration, they will be learn taping treatment protocols paired with other modalities for some com-mon clinical conditions. Attendees will take with them a greater understanding of the appropriate taping methods for practical use in the clinic.

Saturday, July 30th 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.Session 104: Effective Examination and Treatment of the Shoulder Complex John W. O’Halloran, PT, DPT, OCS, cert MDT, AT C, CSCS Effective Examination and Treatment of the Shoulder Complex will include a brief anatomical review of the shoulder complex, discussion of evaluative procedure, specific therapeutic interven-tion and the review of multiple case studies with demonstrative video of patient interaction. The case studies presented in this course use clinical reasoning based on the highest level of evidence available. At the conclusion of the course, the attendee will be able to identify shoulder pathology via an effective systemic assessment process, as well as, identify creative therapeutic exercises and techniques that consider all functional planes of movement and incorporate the evidenced based kinetic link model.

Sunday July 31st 8 a.m. - NoonSession 105: Therapeutic Modalities: An Evidence- Based Approach Jon DeBord, PT, MS, ATC, SCSAn engaging discussion, using contemporary, significant litera-ture, regarding the application of therapeutic modalities in a clini-cal setting. Major modalities discussed will include therapeutic ultrasound, lontophoresis, heat/cold, neuromuscular electric stimulation and transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation. Dis-cussion will also occur on the subject of emerging modalities of infrared and red light therapies and low-level laser therapies in the treatment of soft-tissue disorders. Further attention will be given to clinical application and outcome data, in relation to particular disorders.

Tract 2: Geriatric RehabilitationFriday, July 29th 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.Session 201: Treating Balance and Fall Prevention for the Geriatric Patient Geoff Mosley, PT, NCSFalls are a leading cause of disability and death among the elderly. It is often that the issues leading to a fall are commonly attributed to the effects of aging alone. However, the causes of falls are multifaceted and often include balance and mobility impairments that are a result of disease processes. Many of these impairments are amenable to therapy intervention. In this course we will outline many of the risk factors and impairments leading to fall risk, how to evaluate high risk patients, and ideas for intervention. This course will include discussion of the therapy management of musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and specific sensory disorders that lead to imbalance and falls. In addition to addressing risk factors and physical therapy management, we will also go over prevention strategies for both home and institutional settings.

Saturday, July 30th 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.Session 203: Pharmacology for the Rehabilitation Specialist - The Geriatric Patient Suzanne L. Tinsley, PhD, PTRehabilitation professionals often encounter patients prescribed a multitude of medications used to treat the disease processes connected with aging and additional, unrelated co-morbidities. This seminar will use case examples to present a brief summary of some of the medications often seen in the geriatric patient and to demonstrate the relationship between a patient’s medications and therapy. Stress will be placed on medications used in the treatment of cognitive irregularities of the aging, balance/vestibular-related deficits and will also acknowledge other medications often seen in the geriatric patient.

Saturday, July 30th 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.Session 204: Functional Testing for the Aging Adult Jon DeBord, PT, MS, ATC, SCSFunctional Testing for the Aging Adult discusses the relevance, the dependability and the power of frequently-used functional tests for the geriatric population. Tests included in the discussion will comprise of the FIM, the Tinetti Balance and Gait Assessment, the Timed Up and Go, the Berg Balance Measure and several other specific functional tests. Contemporary and significant literature, exploring performance thresholds, sensitivity and preciseness of each test, will be examined.

Sunday, July 31st 8 a.m. - NoonSession 205: Enhancing Functional Outcomes Through Seating and Positioning Michelle Lange, OTR, ABDA, ATP/SMSEnhancing Functional Outcomes Through Seating and Position-ing presents fundamentals for use in the geriatric population setting and is designed to provide the skills needed to identify, assess and treat related problems. Seating and positioning has become a mandatory skill for most rehabilitation professionals, especially those practicing in assisted living facilities, skilled nursing homes and other similar settings. Common situations and conditions will be addressed, as will the basics of seating and positioning evaluation and intervention practices. This seminar highlights the essential abilities required to successfully produce functioning outcomes.

Friday, July 29th 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.Session 202: Body Weight Supported Gait Training for the Geriatric Patient Geoff Mosley, PT, NCSBody weight supported gait training (BWSGT) has been an increasingly popular treatment modality in both research lit-erature and the therapy clinic. While the focus of this treatment is most often in neurological rehabilitation settings, BWSGT is a useful tool in any setting where patients have less than ideal walk-ing abilities. In this course we will go over the principles of BWS-GT, the science behind them, and how to apply these to the geri-atric population. We will detail the physiologic basis by which BWSGT has its training effects and how to best utilize it with various patient diagnoses and impairments. We will also discuss the unique needs of the geriatric patient and how BWSGT can maximize the patient’s therapy outcomes while minimizing risks.
