Oral Health 2020 Goals

Goal: Mandatory inclusion of an adult dental benefit in publicly funded health insurance.

• By 2020: At least 30 states have a comprehensive Medicaid adult dental benefit, and no states that currently have a Medicaid adult benefit roll back or eliminate that coverage.

• By 2020: Medicare includes a comprehensive dental benefit.

• By 2020: Oral health is a component of patient-centered care models.

Goal: Oral health incorporated into the primary education system.

• By 2020: The 10 largest school districts (nationally) have incorporated oral health into their systems.

Goal: Comprehensive national oral health measurement system.

• Coalition Focus: To create a network of community partners that will have as it’s mission to improve access to care for residents in need residing in Allegan & Ottawa Counties.

JVS – Tri-County Dental

• Tri-County Dental , Jewish Vocational Program providing

services in Oakland & Wayne County

• Mission to create systems change through education &

training of dental and CMH professionals.

• Train through dental schools dental students on best

approaches to utilize when caring for adults with

disabilities.

Kent County Oral Health Coalition

• KCOHC has built a collaborative oral health network for

the last over 13 years.

• Established two goals for Kent County after conducting

assessment of local oral health needs:

• Goals:

• 1. Increase access to high quality/affordable oral health

• 2. Increase oral health literacy leading to disease

prevention

• Mission: Develop/deliver Oral Health education to early

childhood educators/childhood service providers

Saginaw County Health Plan

• SHP is a Non-profit which provides health coverage to the uninsured in Saginaw County.

• Provided $100,000 per year/past four years to cover emergency dental cost for residents.

• Develop a coalition representing diverse stakeholders organizations.

• Mission: Improve system of oral health care for low-income uninsured/underinsured.
