Dates: 10-20 January 2017 (possible to arrive earlier and leave later)Enjoy exploring yoga whilst rejuvenating, relaxing and de-stressing in beautiful Suriname. The 6 day yoga foundation training is incorporated into this retreat in order to dive deeper into yoga, its philosophy and background. You will also learn and practice different asanas and pranayama exercises. Most importantly you will be guided to start integrating yoga into your daily life. During the retreat we balance restorative (yin) yoga as a meditative practice with a dynamic flow yoga (yang) with focus on connecting with body, mind and breath. Participants will be guided into body alignment and deep relaxation.

Through these ancient yogic techniques you will be taken on a journey of self-exploration. The practices are transformative, rejuvenating and deeply relaxing in combination with wellness treatments and one to one coaching sessions. Towards the end of the retreat we will practice “in silence”.Each participant will receive individual attention, adjustments and encouragement to go beyond any self-imposed limitations. 

This retreat is suitable for all levels and backgrounds.

The VenueHouttuyn Wellness River Resort is a new resort located at the former Houttuyn plantation in Suriname only 15 minutes away from Paramaribo city. It is a beautiful inspiring location situated at the river. For more info please check www.houttuyn.com

Note that the hotel and villas are still under construction and therefore accomodation during the retreat will be at Oxygen Resort in Paramaribo.

Explore SurinameAlthough Suriname is geographically located on the mainland of South America, it is part of the history and culture of the Carribean. The population of only half a million inhabitants, has an unique mix of cultures, customs, music, languages and culinary surprises. Indians, Creoles, East Indians, Chinese, Maroons, Javanese, Dutch and many others live in this beautiful country. The tropical climate with temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius makes it enjoyable stay. Through this climate Suriname has an abundant flora and fauna, with the majority of the country is still green and untouched.On the left bank of the wide Suriname River is the capital Paramaribo. sakttisha yoga foundation trainingThe saktiisha 6 day yoga yraining is integrated in the retreat . The training will develop a solid basis for yourself but for also offers a wonderful way to deepen your yoga existing yoga practice. In addition to yoga philosophy, we will also practice asanas ( practice of postures) and pranayama (breath control). The training will particularly help you to apply yoga in your daily life for more calmness, relaxation and balance of body and mind. It is also a wonderful discovery of the self and a good foundation for continuation of other trainings at saktiisha.

About Savitriwww.saktiisha.comSavitri is owner of saktiisha yoga centre and head of faculty Yoga Teacher Trainings (syt20-sytt500 hours). Due to Savitri's Hindu descent and background she has been involved in many different types of yoga (like bhakti yoga, karma yoga, jnana yoga) already from a very young age. She has been practicing meditation since she was fifteen. After 18 years working in the corporate world in diverse financial and human resource positions, she decided to fully focus on the practice and teachings of yoga. Living more and more consciously and by connecting with others, her vision is to make yoga accessible to as many people as possible, thus allowing everyone to connect and find balance in body, mind and soul. This Retreat in Suriname is very special to Savitri as she was born here.

About Janewww.sankalpayogi.comJane Saman was born in Netherlands and has her roots in Suriname. She spent her teenage years in Suriname moved back to the Netherlands where she lived, studied and worked for many years before she came to settle down in Suriname in 2008. From a very young age Jane was always very much intrigued and interested in spirituality. It was in the Netherlands that she followed her first Hatha yoga teacher training. Her yoga journey has brought her to learn from teachers such as Mansukh Patel, Katiza Satya, Hillary Brown, Paul Dallaghan, Pattabhi Jois and Kino McGregor, . The yoga journey has also brought her to great countries like India, Nepal and Thailand. Today Jane runs one of the yoga studio’s of Sankalpayogi in the North of Paramaribo where she teaches group classes, privates and offers Pranic Healing consults. She has incorporated a beautiful spiritual store into the yoga studio. Yoga is a gift to her that has brought so much closer to herself and she is excited to share the ancient and modern knowledge of yoga with you.
