MODERN CLASSICSNEGRONIWhile the drink’s origins are unknown, the most widely reported account is that it wasinvented in Florence, Italy in 1919, at Caffè Casoni, now called Caffè Cavalli. CountCamillo Negroni invented it by asking the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthenhis favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water.The bartender also added an orange garnish rather than the typical lemon garnishof the Americano to signify that it was a different drink.

PINK LADYDuring the prohibition era (1920-1933) the cocktail was already widely known. The popularity of the Pink Ladymight partially be explained by the often bad quality of pure Gin during theprohibition era.
