BIOGRAPHY

Born in Porto Alegre, on a cold af-

terno on on 19th June 1980, Tiago

Rubens gained his firs t mus ical influen-

ces and exper iences on the ‘gaucho’s ’

coast , where he grew up close to the

sea and nature . However i t was on

the road that the composer , mus ician

and producer discovered his t rue ar-

t i s t ic ident i ty .

Exper imentat ion , adventure , cur ios i ty

and rest lessness were the fuel that

made him dodge his probable mus i -

cal path .

After at tempts to compose groups

and uni te like-minded people , which

doesn ’ t a lways work as people have

di fferent in terests and focus , Tiago

fe l t that his path was to fo llow a solo

care er .

“When I realized that I could wr i te ,

p lay and s ing, I realized my auto-

nomy and invested mysel f in this idea,

knowing well that the project would

never end - something that usually

happens when a band goes through

di fficul t ies . ”

BIOGRAPHY

This assurance came when he entered

the Facul ty of Arts in 2008. There, he

delved de ep into research of Brazi -

lian li terature , poet ic s t ructures and

the creat ion of li terary texts . Acade-

mic li fe enr iched his mus ic wi th poe-

t ic depth and theoret ical knowledge.

Names such as Vinicius de Moraes ,

Julio Cortázar and Caetano Veloso

inci ted this connect ion , creat ing a

greater in terest for regional , Brazi -

lian and Lat in .

Influenced by the nurtur ing of a col -

lect ive author ia l scene, and known to

aggregate and organize movements ,

Tiago current ly se eks var ious forms

of proli ferat ing art i s t ic and cul tural

events involv ing mus ic in the region,

creat ing opportuni t ies to spread his

mus ic and collaborat ing wi th the work

of other art i s t s .

Today, wi th four years of so lo care er

behind him, two EP’s , a record laun-

ched, a lready awarded for his work ,

Tiago and his team are work ing on

the promot ion of their latest show,

ent i t led - Subtropicarnaval .

The firs t two EP’s served as a valuable laboratory , and clear ly an opportuni ty to

s t rengthen the partnership wi th his f r iend and producer Thiago Heinr ich . After the

re lease of the EP, Tiago packed his bags and decided to exper ience Brazil and all

i t s p lurali ty . There was born the album “SUBTROPICARNAVAL” .

“Subtropicarnaval . So natural . King of revelry in the holy land. Kid charm. Peace from the encounter

in the sound I heard. Lovely groove. Well-being. Samba trace. Child’s soul . Strong beat . Brazils . Uni-

verse being. Go singing to grow. And looms large in the verses, makes us live – about the maximum

of being able to do, see, review, transcend. You know, i t reminds me Cartola, Cicero, Beirut , Baleiro,

Gil , Caetano, Moraes Moreira . Complementing influences? Mixture of dreams. In the south of blue

sky . Confett i , gli t ter , heat, taste of love. Tiago Rubens s inging happiness, li fe, subtropicarnavalizing

shamelessly .

The album was recorded and produced in partnership wi th producer

Thiago Heinr ich in the ci ty of Parobé, R io Grande do Sul , dur ing 2012. With e ight

t racks , thre e of which had be en released on ear lier EPs . The highlight i s “Temporal” ,

which earned the composer the best mus ic award with lyr ics and best arrangement

of the 4th Fest ival of Public Radios of Brazil , in 2013. The track became part of the

playli s t on FM cul ture 107.7 and then picked up by several radio s tat ions in Brazil

resul t ing in a far-reached audience for the newly re leased work .

THE SHOW

WATCH

The Subtropicarnaval show, as well as the disc , weaves a poet ic and cul tural journey of d iverse

‘Brazil s ’ that coex is t in our country . The nuances , the rhythms and the lyr ics are a plurali ty which

transforms the show into a r ich presentat ion as much for the body, as for the mind . The reperto i -

re , the disc in i t s ent irety , p lus new songs and re interpretat ions of new and already establi shed

art i s ts of Brazilian popular mus ic .

“With the beautiful scenic work of Akemi Ueno and Christ iano Pozzer highlighted, Tiago Rubens did

the night show, playing the Subtropicarnaval disc repertoire with ownership . In addit ion to the well-

- tuned André Paz (bass and vocals ) band, Bruno Coelho (percussion) , Duda Cunha (drums) , Felipe

Cemim (mandolin and cavaco) , Gabriel Gorski (guitar) , Thiago Heinrich (accordion) and Valent ina

Trindade (percussion and vocals ) , Tiago (voice, guitar and ukulele) had the company of a good team

of guests . Like the s ingers Jéf - winner of the Breakout Brazil show in 2014, who sang ‘O Equilibr ista’

- and Rafa Caetano – in Alvo Certo . The group Quintal - with the voices of Pramit , Raquel Leão,

Tat i Portella and Sander Fróis , the last two were Chimarruts band members - enriched the voices

in the final song, Emanar, much applauded, in an emotional moment for musicians and audience.“
