New Directory Integration Parameter—There is a new parameter UseLdapReferral that specifies if theclient uses LDAP referrals when attempting to resolve contacts. For more information, see the ParameterReference Guide for Cisco Jabber.
Stability Improvements
This release provides fixes for a number of known issues. See the Resolved Caveats in Release 11.8.1 sectionfor a list of caveats fixed in this release.
What's New in Release 11.8
Cisco Directory Integration (CDI)
This release includes changes to the way LDAP is configured. Cisco Directory Integration (CDI) replacedBasic and Enhanced Directory Integration (BDI and EDI). Jabber uses service discovery to automaticallydetect the directory server and also how to connect to it. You have some optional configuration available ifyou want to prioritize authentication methods, or define the primary server.
If you want to customize your LDAP configuration, there is now one set of CDI parameters that apply to allclients. The CDI parameters are the same as EDI parameters, and do not require any further action. The BDIparameters are no longer supported, so if you're upgrading from a BDI-only deployment, you must updateyour LDAP configuration.
For more details on how CDI works, including a detailed description of how to upgrade to 11.8 from a BDIcontact source and a complete list of parameters affected by moving from BDI and EDI to CDI, read LDAPOption: Cisco Directory Integration (CDI) in the Planning Guide for Cisco Jabber 11.8.
Chat and Presence
•Message Bubbles—Chats now include the option to display conversations using message bubbles. Thedefault style is left/right aligned message bubbles, but you can also select left-aligned bubbles andminimal style in the Options > Instant Message Styles menu. You can apply whichever style youprefer to different chats.
• Persistent IMNotifications—IM notifications of newmessages do not fade and stay on the screen untilyou dismiss them. Up to six notifications are stacked above each other at the side of the screen, wherenewer notifications replace the oldest. If you enable it, then users have the option to turn it off in theOptions > Notifications menu of their client.
In the jabber-config.xml file, configure the PersistIMNotifications parameter with a value of trueor false (default). To enable the feature when installing Jabber, set the PERSIST_IM_NOTIFICATIONSinstallation argument to true.
For more information on configuring this feature, see the Parameters Reference Guide for Cisco Jabber.
• Inline Images—You can add .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif images by using drag and drop or file transferto an IM. You can configure the images to be automatically accepted by users to download. You can
Release Notes for Cisco Jabber for Windows 11.8.x2
IntroductionWhat's New in Release 11.8.1
also configure the images to be displayed in the client without downloadeding them first. Any .gif imagesthat are sent automatically play and loop for the sender and receiver.
In the Jabber-config.xml file, configure the AutoAcceptImages parameter with true (default) orfalse values to have image files automatically accepted for download. Configure the EnableInlineImagesparameter with true (default) or false values to have images displayed in the client automatically withoutbeing downloaded first.
• File Transfer Improvements - You can set up the client to automatically accept file transfers withoutthe recipient needing to agree to download the file first. File transfers do not include image files, whichyou can configure using AutoAcceptImages parameter.
In the Jabber-config.xml file, configure the AutoAcceptFileTransfers parameter with true or false(default) values.
• Import Contacts—In the Settings menu, under File > Import Contacts, you can import contact detailsfrom Gmail, Outlook, and IBM Notes. Contact details can be imported in .vcf, .csv,or .xmlformat. The limit to the file size of imported contacts is 80 KB (about 500 contacts).
• Taskbar IM Notifications—A notification is displayed on top of your Jabber icon on the task barindicating the number of unread messages you have waiting.
• Align Group Chat Invitations—Group chat invitations have been improved to provide consistentnotifications across all Jabber clients.
• Custom Status Management—You can now fully manage your Jabber presence from the hub windowor your system tray. With one click, you can create a custom status, choose from your existing presencestatus, or delete custom status messages that you already created.
Telephony
• Voice Message Forwarding—You can now right-click on a voice message in the Voice Messages taband choose to forward the voice message to one or more of your contacts. You can also record your ownmessage to send along with the forwarded voicemail. You can listen to your recorded message andrerecord your message if you want. Recipients receive the forwarded voice message into their VoiceMessages tab and it appears as a regular new voice message with the name of the contact who sent itand the “FW:” identifier. When they play the message, your recording is played first if you sent one, followed by the original voicemail. Private voicemails can’t be forwarded. Only one voicemail can beforwarded at a time. The recipients list is based on searches in the directory.
To turn off the feature, in the Jabber-config.xml file, configure the ForwardVoicemail parameterwith true or false. This parameter is true by default. To disable the feature when installing Jabber, setthe FORWARD_VOICEMAIL installation argument to false. For more information about this parameter, see the Parameters Reference Guide.
• Disable Phone Services—You can turn off your phone in the device selection menu from the Hubwindow by choosing Disable Phone Services. To turn your phone back on, select the option to use yourcomputer or desk phone for calls. You can’t turn off your phone when you run Jabber in a virtualenvironment.
• Hunt Group in Recents—If you make a call to a hunt group, then the hunt group name is displayed aspart of the call records on your Recents tab.
• Display User Details—Users’ phone numbers and display names are shown when you search for usersto forward voice messages to. Seeing this information helps you differentiate between users who havethe same name.

Accessibility
• Time Stamp Removal—Users can add or remove individual time stamps from messages. Users canselect Ctrl+Shift+B to toggle on and off whether JAWS calls out time stamp information on IMs.
• Accessibility Improvements—We've improved Jabber for speech response, icon recognition, navigation, and error message detection.
• Screen Reader Experience—We've improved the screen reader experience for notifications during acall, whether a call or chat is in focus, and elements of the status tab.
Visual Refresh
• Camera Self-View—When you are in a video call but not sending video, your avatar is displayed insteadof the self-view camera.
• Improved @mentions—When you hover over mentioned users, their contact details are displayed.
• Large Emoticons—Any emoticons that are sent in chat without text are displayed three times largerthan normal in the chat.
Administrator
• CallManagement Records—When a call ends, Cisco Jabber sends performance and quality informationto Cisco Unified CommunicationsManager. Cisco Unified CommunicationsManager uses these metricsto populate the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Call Management Record (CMR). In thisrelease, Cisco Jabber includes the following information:
• Average Round Trip Time (RTT) for video streams
• Concealed Seconds for audio streams
• Severely Concealed Seconds for audio streams
The metrics appear in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager CMR record output in plain textformat. This data can be read directly or consumed by a telemetry or analytics application. For moreinformation about configuring Cisco Unified Communications Manager CMR records, see the CallManagement Records chapter of theCall Detail Records Administration Guide for your release of CiscoUnified Communications Manager.
• Contact Resolution Improvements—Contacts in Jabber can come from different sources. This releaseincludes some changes in the way Jabber compares these contacts and resolves the information to mergethe contact records. To view the Contact Resolution data, in the hub window, select Ctrl+ Shift+C.
Jabber compares the contact record fields in the following order:
1 Jabber ID (JID) – If the records have a JID, the records are matched based on the JIDs and no furthercomparison is done on the mail or phone number fields.
2 Mail – If the records have a mail field, then the records are matched based on the mail field and nofurther comparison is done for phone numbers.
3 Phone Number – If the records have a phone number, the records are matched based on the phonenumber. As the records are compared and a match is found, the contact information is merged tocreate one contact record.

Limitations and Restrictions
Limitations and Restrictions for All Deployments
IBM Notes Contact Search
When searching for an IBMNotes contact, entering either " or \ as the first character in the search string won'tfind the correct contact.
Real-Time Transport Control Protocol (RTCP)
Jabber will continue to send RTCP packets even when disabled.RTCP is an integral component of JabberTelephony services.
WebEx meeting integration with PMR (Personal Meeting Room)
To support WebEx meeting integration with PMR (Personal Meeting Room), you will need to install WebExProductivity Tools T31.7.0 or later.
Outlook Save Chat feature with Office 365
Applies to: Cisco Jabber for desktop clients.
To use the Outlook Save Chat feature with Office 365, the user must enter credentials manually in Jabberwith a single sign-on (SSO) deployment.
Cannot Copy Image
You cannot right-click over an image in a conversation in Jabber and select copy. You must highlight theimage and then right-click to copy it.
Microsoft Outlook OST File
Intermittently Cisco Jabber for Windows is unable to access the Microsoft Outlook OST file. To resolve thisissue, restart Jabber and restart Outlook.
Automatic Detection of Proxy Settings (WPAD)
Cisco Jabber does not support Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) proxy discovery. For information abouthow to configure proxy settings for Cisco Jabber, seeConfigure Proxy Settings in theOn-Premises Deploymentfor Cisco Jabber guide.
Call Transfers
When you are transferring a call to a third party, the third party must respond to the call before you cancomplete the transfer. You cannot currently dial the third party and connect the first party while waiting forthe call to connect (also known as a blind transfer).
Release Notes for Cisco Jabber for Windows 11.8.x12
IntroductionLimitations and Restrictions
Chat Reply and No Voicemail Profile
The chat reply feature does not work if the user has no voicemail profile configured. If the user selects Chatreply in an incoming call, the call continues to ring and the Chat reply and Answer options are greyed out. This limitation is documented in CSCux75667.
Check Point VPN
Cisco Jabber for Windows does not currently support Check Point VPN. This limitation is documented inCSCuy34099.
Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client
Cisco Jabber for Windows supports Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client version 4.0 and later. Thislimitation is documented in CSCuy14721.
Cisco Unity Connection Dispatch Messages
In Cisco Unity Connection, a dispatch message is sent to a distribution list with the message configured insuch a way that only one user responds to that message. A user can accept, decline, or postpone the dispatchmessage. Cisco Jabber for Windows does not support Cisco Unity Connection dispatch messages. Thislimitation is documented in CSCuw31908.
Emails to a Group of Contacts
There is a limit of 2083 characters in the To field when sending an email to a group of contacts. Dependingon the length of the email addresses and the number of contacts, not all contacts may be added to the email. For more information about the 2083 character limitation, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie/kb/208427.
Location Feature and Multiple Domain Support
Consider the following deployment scenario:
When you deployed your Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence Service node, all userswere imported with single domain support. You later changed the address scheme to Directory URI (multipledomain support).
The location feature will now not work for newly added domain users. Users in the initial domain are unaffected. This limitation is documented in CSCuu63734.
Logitech Keyboard Display Changes
The built-in display for Logitech UC keybaord K725-C does not display caller or device information onincoming calls. Instead, the Cisco logo is displayed.
Microsoft Outlook Local Contacts and Presence
Users' presence is unknown when the contact is manually added to contacts in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and2013, when the contact is added to local (custom) contacts with an email address type of SMTP. To resolvethis issue, delete the contact and add it again manually, ensuring the email address type is Exchange (EX).This item is documented in CSCuo57172.
Release Notes for Cisco Jabber for Windows 11.8.x 13
IntroductionLimitations and Restrictions for All Deployments
Phone Mode Deployments with Microsoft Lync
Click-to-x functionality must be disabled if you want to deploy Cisco Jabber for Windows in phone mode onthe same computer as Microsoft Lync. See the Common Installation Arguments section of the DeploymentGuide for more information about the CLICK2X installer switch.
Plantronics Accessories and Software
If you use Plantronics accessories for Cisco Jabber call management, and if you have Plantronics Hub installed, ensure that at least version 3.5 is installed. Download Plantronics Hub 3.5 from the Plantronics website.
Remote Desktop Control over Mobile and Remote Access
Remote desktop control over Mobile and Remote Access is not supported. This limitation is documented inCSCuz19139.
SAML Single Sign-On Limitations
When configuring SAML SSO on Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unity Connectionservers, use a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) instead of an IP Address to define the server name. If youuse an IP Address, the client displays a warning message that the certificate is not valid. The requirement touse an FQDN is because the embedded Internet Explorer browser is not able to validate IP addresses in theSubject Alternate Name (SAN) certificate.
Space Characters in Credentials
The following rules apply to space characters and credentials:
• Usernames can contain spaces in on-premises deployments.
• Usernames cannot contain spaces in cloud-based deployments.
• Passwords cannot contain spaces in any deployment scenario.
• The first and last characters of usernames in on-premises deployments must not be spaces. This rule isalso true for usernames synchronized from a directory source.
Standard CTI Secure Connection User Group
Cisco Jabber for Windows does not currently support CTI connections over transport layer security (TLS).As a result, Cisco Jabber for Windows users cannot switch from using a CSF device to using a desk phonedevice if they belong to the Standard CTI Secure Connection user group. This limitation is documented inCSCux83786.
.TIFF Images Not Supported
In this release, if users have a .tiff image as their avatar, then Jabber will display the default icon image instead. To use a personal avatar, users must upload an image in a supported format, such as jpg, bmp or png.
Using Click-To-X Feature with Contacts in Microsoft Outlook
If you use UDS as a directory source, users can only use Click-To-X capabilities, such as Click-To-Call andClick-To-IM, to contact Microsoft Outlook users if they are already in the cache file. A cache file is createdfor someone if they are in the users' Cisco Jabber contacts list, or have a Cisco Jabber history created by theuser previously searching, IMing, or calling them, or by leaving a voice message.
Release Notes for Cisco Jabber for Windows 11.8.x14
IntroductionLimitations and Restrictions for All Deployments
Limitations and Restrictions for On-Premises Deployments
Adding Federated Contacts
When adding federated contacts, Cisco recommends that users add the federated contacts as company contacts(File > New > Company Contact), rather than as custom contacts. Adding federated contacts as customcontacts can cause intermittent presence issues. This issue is documented in CSCuz59060.
Creating and Configuring Devices for Users in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 11.0
If you are creating devices for users in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 11.0, you can now specifya key order as RSA Only, EC Only or EC Preferred, RSA Backup. However, the EC Only option is notcurrently supported by Cisco Jabber, and if you select it, the client will fail to connect to the server.
Multiple Resource Login
When a user signs in to multiple instances of the client at the same time, the chat feature behaves as followsin on-premises deployments (more on multiple resource login in Common Deployment Scenarios):
• Signing in on one client changes custom availability states to 'Available' on other clients.
• If you set the availability state from 'On a call' to another state while on a call, the availability state doesnot automatically change to 'On a call' for subsequent calls.
SIP Trunk for Phone Presence
From Release 11.5(3), you must configure a SIP trunk between Cisco Unified Communications Manager andIM and Presence Service if you want Cisco Jabber users to see phone presence. In previous releases, a SIPtrunk was not required for phone presence. This limitation is documented in CSCuz85578.
Limitations and Restrictions for Cloud Deployments
Blocking Users in Enterprise Groups
Blocking users does not prevent a blocked user's status from being displayed if the blocked users are in acontact list as part of an enterprise group. For example, User A blocks User B. However, User A is in UserB's contact list as part of an enterprise group. As a result, User B can view User A's availability status.
Invitees to Instant WebEx Meetings
Invitees to instant WebEx meetings must be provisioned with WebEx accounts before they can join an instantWebEx meeting. For example, User A has a WebEx account and starts an instant WebEx meeting from CiscoJabber. Use A then invites User B, who does not have a WebEx account, to the meeting. When User B clickson the meeting link in Cisco Jabber, an error message is displayed and the user can't join the meeting. UserB must be provisioned with a WebEx account before attempting to join any instant WebEx meetings. Thislimitation is documented in CSCux52068.
Jabber to Jabber Calls
We recommend running Internet Explorer 10 or greater while using the Jabber to Jabber calling feature. Usingthis feature with previous versions of Internet Explorer or with Internet Explorer in Compatibility Mode cancause issues with Cisco Jabber client login (non-SSO setup) or Jabber to Jabber calling capability (SSO setup).
Release Notes for Cisco Jabber for Windows 11.8.x 15
IntroductionLimitations and Restrictions for On-Premises Deployments
Users in Common Identity
There is a known issue with signing into Cisco Jabber for some users who have migrated to Common Identity. If users receive an Incorrect user name or password error message when entering their username and password, see the following knowledge base article https://cisco-support.webex.com/guest/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/WBX000019555/myr=false
Performance and Behavior Notes
Presence indicators on Sharepoint 2016
When you sign-out of Jabber, the presence indicator bubbles are grayed out and do not refresh after signingback into Jabber.
You can resolve this behavior by refreshing the webpage. This will ensure that accurate presence informationis displayed.
Mobile Presence Icon
The icon that shows other users that you are in a mobile location is not displayed in this release.
Jabber to Jabber Calls and Symantec Host IDS (HIDS)
Jabber to Jabber calls can trigger errors in Symantec HIDS.
Symantec HIDS has a rule that disables connections from internet-based servers if it receives 5 connectionrequests from the same internet-based server within 200 seconds. For example, 3 Jabber to Jabber calls within200 seconds will trigger Symantec HIDS. When this happens, ongoing Jabber to Jabber calls are dropped andJabber to Jabber calls are disabled for 600 seconds.
