PROCESSORS (SOLVERS) NISA II 1. Introduced Weighted average link element (Rig2link) for multiple master nodes

and one slave node kinematic constraints. 2. Rigid link ID is expanded from 6 to 8 digits. This feature now removes the

limitation of the previous versions.

3. An additional option to define local coordinate system (LCSYS) as option 4. This option will allow users to define the local coordinate system by three nodes in the local Z direction and XZ plane. Addition of this option will allow users to translate data from NASTRAN and maintain the format.

4. Automatically re-arrange rigid link sequence to put rigid links for which master

node will become slave node later, ahead of those rigid links which uses the same node as slave node. This avoids the fatal error during the analysis due to slave node becoming master node in processing of rigid links.

5. Added shell offset feature to thin shell (NKTP=40) for linear analysis. ADVANCED DYNAMICS 1. Floor Response Spectrum with Missing Correction: User can now specify the cutoff frequency in Hertz (CFREQ) to account for

missing mass correction while computing the Floor Response Spectra. This CFREQ value (in Hz.) must be same as the CFREQ (in Hz.) of *EIGOUT card in Eigen value analysis NIS file. If there is no entry of CFREQ in *EIGOUT card, user shall take care to see that all the eigenvalues below this CFREQ value are extracted in Eigen value analysis run. Even otherwise, a restart 2 option is available to activate Eigen run again.

HEATII / III 1. Groundwater Flow Analysis:

Seepage analysis forms an important part of studies related to slope stability,

groundwater contamination control and earth dam design. Engineers are often interested in the direction and the quantity of the flow through porous media.

Analysis of Saturated Groundwater flow equations for flows through porous

media is supported. Problems in 2D (NKTP=2) and 3D (NKTP=4) domains can be solved using this feature. The algebraic solver supported by this feature is PARDISO.

The hydraulic properties of the soil with respect to the fluid phase can be input by

the new material card *MATDIFFUSN. Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions can currently be specified.

2. Updated Iterative and Sparse Solver in HEAT II to the latest version of these

solvers. EMAG

1. Large input format (8 digits) for element and node ID.

2. Complex parallel equation solver (complex Pardiso solver) has been implemented in EMAG to speed up solution time for complex problems using multiple core machines.

ENDURE 1. Fast scheme to process fatigue life calculation. With this new scheme time

required for the calculation of fatigue life is reduced by several orders of magnitude for large problems compared to the previous versions.

ERROR CORRECTIONS PRE & POST PROCESSORS DISPLAY III and IV 1. Error in writing *ELEMENT data from the older database files. The value -1 in the

last entry is causing failure in running nisa files in NISA II solver. This is caused by a Partial Fixity feature introduced in Version 17.0 – Fixed.

2. DISPLAY III/IV does not show correct values for beam section force/moment for beam load defined by a vector – Fixed.

3. The results in the beam report are not appropriate for beamloads defined by a vector – Fixed.

4. DISPLAY III/IV is writing only one pressure value for beam elements - Fixed

5. DISPLAY III/IV gives error message and does not plot unaveraged stress contour if the model has beam elements along with other elements – Fixed.

6. DISPLAY IV bug – Plotting elements by property attribute is lost after viewing the model with hidden line mode. (While working in some areas, Elements are plotted painting it using property attribute i.e. "ELE, PAI, PRO" command. Then to get solid view using hidden line on "view hid on" and again while coming back to wire frame mode the elements are plotted in default color. Painting done through property attribute is lost which should be retained.)

7. The direction of Pressure arrow is not correct if pressure is defined using a vector and the pressure value is negative – Fixed.

8. DISPLAY III/IV do not show the correct values for *GROUND datacard – Fixed.

9. In Search operation DISPLAY III/IV gives Partial Fixity data though it is not specified – Fixed.

10. History plot of nodal stress is incorrect for nonlinear transient dynamic analysis both in DISPLAYIII/IV – Fixed.

11. DISPLAY IV hangs when writing a nisa file from an old database file with more number of Property Ids – Fixed. Read an old database file with more number of property Ids. Add another

property. Write a nisa file. Display hangs. The size of the nisa file keeps on

Page 13: Release Notes of NISA Version 18 0

Release Notes Version 18.0

Cranes Software, Inc 13 of 16 October 2011

increasing up to 2GB. If the file is opened we find RCTABLE data having junk

values throughout the file. No other card is written after the *RCTABLE data

group.

12. In Search operation of *CELEMENTS, Master and Slave surface ids are inter changed in both DISPLAY III /IV – Fixed.

13. DISPLAY IV does not plot contour for strain energy, if strain energy is selected first – Fixed.

FEA TRANSLATORS

FE Data Translation from NASTRAN to NISA II 1. If NASTRAN input file in free format does not have a comma after the last entry

then program could cause errors in the translated NISA input file - Fixed.

2. Element connectivity was incorrect for the shell elements CQUAD8 and CTRIA6 elements – Fixed.

3. Application of Force and Moment is no longer limited to basic coordinate system and can now be applied in different user defined coordinate system – Fixed.

4. Incorrect rotated coordinate system definition has been corrected - Fixed. If NASTRAN uses a third point to define local system, then the translator will use a third point to define local coordinate system in NISA II as well.

5. Rearranged sequence of rigid link definitions to avoid slave node becoming a master node in the subsequent rigid link definition.

6. Correct CBAR translation. It used to put only the first two values defined in the PBAR card to RCTABLE data group in NISA II.

7. Incorrect Real Constant Table RCTABLE number might be given to general type of elements such as shell and solid.

8. If local displacement systems are specified on the GRID data and only displacement data used that local system than program used to crashed – Fixed.

FE Data Translation from NISA II to NASTRAN 1. Rotated coordinate systems for displacement were not written to output file

2. Shear modulus should be put in as blank not 0.0 if it is not defined.

3. Scale factor should be put as 1.0 instead of 1in force card.

4. My and Mz were put as Mx in moment card.

5. The same continuation flags were used for all continuation cards.

6. PLOAD4 was not written for solid elements and the sign for shell element was

incorrect.

7. Nodal coordinates were written more than 8 digits in standard format input file.
