I’m majoring in management and marketing and I chose those two majors because I’m interested in entertainment and music management and artist management.’

MORE STUDY OPTIONS

STILL IN SCHOOL AND WANT TO GET A HEAD START?START UNI NOW (SUN)SUN offers Year 10^, 11 and 12 students the opportunity to study CQUniversity units from degree‑level courses while still in secondary school. Your studies may also contribute towards your Certificate of Education (eg. QCE, WACE, SACE, or VCE). In South Australia and Victoria, completion of eligible SUN units may also give you credit toward the calculation of your ATAR. You can enrol in a range of units, either on campus (face‑to‑face) or online, and combine them with your regular school work. After successful completion of a SUN unit, you may be eligible to apply for direct entry into your preferred course (excluding quota managed courses) and receive credit toward your degree. For more information, visit cqu.edu.au/sun.

START TAFE NOW (STN) Start TAFE Now offers Year 10†, 11 and 12 Queensland students the opportunity to study VET courses as part of their Queensland Certificate of Education. You can choose between certificate I, II, III, IV and diploma level courses in a wide variety of disciplines. Benefit from developing real trade skills and qualifications while completing secondary school. If you’re in Year 11 you can include a Start TAFE Now certificate III qualification or higher to contribute to your ATAR. For more information visit cqu.edu.au/stn.

If you’re a high school teacher interested in delivering VET qualifications at your school in your specialisation, contact us to discuss partnership opportunities. Email [email protected].

APPRENTICESHIPS AND TRAINEESHIPSThe steps to becoming an apprentice or trainee are different to becoming a student at university or TAFE.

Our apprenticeship and traineeship courses cover a wide range of areas, visit cqu.edu.au/apprenticeships.

FREE TAFE FOR QUEENSLAND UNDER 25SThanks to the Queensland Government, ‘Free TAFE for under 25s’ lets you gain a qualification in a high‑priority study area without the cost. Whether you’re looking to meet prerequisite subjects, need a stepping stone to your dream degree and career or simply want to build your confidence before starting study, CQU is here to help.

PRINCIPAL’S RECOMMENDATION SCHEMEAt CQUniversity we believe senior schooling results are important, but we also believe that other factors such as motivation, talent, and passion can lead to student success at university.

The Principal’s Recommendation Scheme allows current Year 12 students to apply to a CQUniversity course based on the written recommendation of your high school principal rather than an ATAR and receive an unconditional offer within 48 hours for most courses. Applications are open now and close on 1 December 2022. To find out more, visit cqu.edu.au/prs.

SKILLS FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION PREPARATORY STUDIES (STEPS)STEPS is a Centrelink‑approved enabling program that has helped thousands of Australians gain entry into university. Tailored to you and your unique study goals, STEPS is designed to help you complete prerequisite subjects, satisfy the entry requirements for your chosen degree, or give you the confidence and skills to successfully enter and undertake university study. To find out more, visit cqu.edu.au/steps.

ALTERNATE ENTRY PATHWAYS

START UNI NOW (SUN)Our SUN program is a valuable alternate entry pathway for high school students thinking about studying a CQU course. After successful completion of a SUN unit during your senior high school years, you may be eligible to apply for direct entry into your preferred course (excluding quota managed courses) and receive credit toward your degree. For more information visit cqu.edu.au/sun.

START TAFE NOW (STN) AND VET QUALIFICATIONSA certificate III, certificate IV or diploma qualification, is converted to a selection rank which may meet specified entry score requirements for many of our associate, bachelor and bachelor with honours degrees. To find out more about the selection rank attached to your VET qualification and the courses that it may satisfy entry to, search ‘ATAR Information’ on our website.

If you have a completed VET qualification and you’ve also completed the necessary subjects to receive an ATAR, you will receive two ranks: a selection rank for your VET qualification, and an ATAR. When you apply to study with CQU, your application will be assessed on whichever score is highest.

PREPARATORY VET COURSESCQUniversity offers preparatory courses to help you prepare for your first step into vocational study or work. For more information visit cqu.edu.au/pathways.

IMPORTANT NOTES1 Courses may be delivered by a combination of on-campus

study, workshops, residential schools and online education.

2 Intakes, duration and availability may differ from what is listed in this guide depending on preferred intake, study mode and personal circumstances. Course commencement is dependent on sufficient enrolments. Different study periods apply for TAFE and university courses. Many TAFE courses offer multiple monthly intakes. Mixed Mode availability is unique to TAFE courses only and is a combination of online learning activities in addition to compulsory site-specific learning activities. Online availability for TAFE courses may include work integrated learning, such as work placements. Please visit cqu.edu.au or contact us for more information.

3 The SR and ATAR listed are the entry scores required to be considered for a place in each course and should be used as a guide only. Entry to courses is competitive and the lowest rank will vary from year to year and for courses where there is a limit on the number of places available a higher score may be required. To view the latest ranking information Visit cqu.edu.au/courses and view the Entry Score information for your course of interest.

WHAT IS AN ATAR?An ATAR is the national standard measure of your high school academic achievement and gives you a rank between 30.00 and 99.95, relative to other Year 12 students.

HOW IS AN ATAR USED FOR UNIVERSITY ENTRY?Your ATAR is a measure used to assess your eligibility for entry into university courses. You will also need to satisfy all other entry requirements specified for your course of interest.

DOES VET COUNT TOWARDS MY ATAR?Successful completion of a certificate III and higher may contribute to your ATAR. Your result will undergo similar scaling to general and applied subjects and if it is one of your top five eligible subject results, it will be used to help calculate your ATAR.

WHAT IF I DON’T GET THE ATAR I NEED?If you don’t receive the ATAR you need to be considered for a course, check out our alternate entry pathways on page 37 or get in touch with us to talk through your options.
