Relevance of Mahatma's teaching in today’sworld-A Drama 3rd October 2019

Matar

Dist. Kheda, Gujarat

On 3rd October, 2019, the very second day of a very important campaign of

the year 2019 by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited namely „Paryatan

Parva 2019‟, an interesting event of knowledge exchange was organized at

Matar village of Kheda district in Gujarat.

Matar, a small town located on the historical Dandi March route of Salt

Satyagrah has its own significance.

On day 3 of the historical Dandi March, Gandhiji along with his fellow

marchers stayed at Matar. SatishKalelkar (Elder son of the popular author and

Gandhiji‟s contemporary, KakasahebKalelkar) along with KharagBahadur

Singh joined the march from Matar. In the early days of the historical March,

Matar was much instrumental in spreading the messages of Salt Satyagrah

across central Gujarat.

To celebrate 150th Birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma

Gandhi, a small skit was performed by the kids of Shri NC Parikh High School.

The drama comprised of four difference scenes of Gandhiji‟s life and were

smartly crafted with songs and dialogues. The drama constantly questioned

the students about their perspective if they had been in the same situation.

At the end of the drama, the teachers told students that Mahatma Gandhi is

still relevant. Like Gandhiji, one must bind himself or herself with the promises

to keep and maintain.

After the performance of the skit by the students, a special video of a drama

„Satya Ni Prayogshala – Hridaykunj‟ was screened in front of the students,

teachers and residents of Matar along with elected panchayat body. The

drama engaged audience from all age groups with its creatively crafted

messages of Gandhiji.

The drama had three major characters like a very young girl child, a worker

of Gandhi Ashram and Hradaykunj-the room of Gandhiji.

The room where Gandhiji lived questions the kid about her inclination and

knowledge about Gandhiji and his ideals. The character of the room tries to

question the young girl child about her perspective on various Gandhian

ideals in the world around her which includes her school, her residence, her

family, her friends and everything around her. The room also takes an

opportunity to question the worker of Gandhi Ashram and ensures whether

the worker is not just a blind follower of Gandhi but has his own reasons and

logics for living his life the Gandhian-minimalistic way.

In a way, both the presentations of drama complimented each other.

The supervisor of the school, Mr. Jignesh Sharma was very much impressed

with the presentations and appreciated the teams. He said, “Gandhi is

eternal. He was relevant when I was a kid, he is relevant today and he will be

relevant even after centuries. The ideals or virtues he has promoted can

never go away in any situation, any era. The world cannot live without Truth

and the world cannot exist without non-violence.”

The Sarpanch of the local body of governance, Mr. Vipulbhai much enjoyed

the dramas and tried to relate it to his own situations. “Local self-governance

was one of the most important thing for Gandhiji. We try to implement his

principals in our daily operations and try to support our fellow citizen. This

drama actually boosted our morals.”

In the event organized today, about 80 students along with Panchayat body

members, school teachers and 20 villagers took part. Students also interacted

with the expert about their queries, perspectives and difficult messages by

Gandhiji.

Students who participated in the drama activity and question answer session

along with their teachers were gifted a book on life of Mahatma Gandhiji.

The panchayat body members were also gifted the same book.

The principal of the school thanked everyone including TCGL for organizing

such an enlightening program, not just for the students but for the entire

village.

Everyone took pledge at the end to follow truth and nonviolence and

contribute in establishing clean, green and peaceful nation.
