MeasurementMeasurement is a real life skill that all people need.
Measurement this year concentrates on the following areas of work…
Distances (lengths/heights/widths). All based on metres (m)Weights (aka mass). All based on grams (g)Time natural (lunar cycle) vs man made (mins)
We also have to learn about measuring shapes. Learning how to calculate lengths, widths, perimeters, circumferences and areas.3d shape are included where we have to find volume, capacity and surface areas.
Measuring ToolsThis year we look at how we can actually take measures. Some of the tools we use.

LengthsWhen we talk of lengths we generally mean straight lines (and circumferences).
The core unit we use for length is metre. Symbol is m.
Tool used to measure include rulers and tape measures.
Key tasks to know include…
1) reading the right point on the ruler and
Note that in trades mm is the key measure. Don’t go in and ask for some 3cm plumbing pipe, ask for 30mm pipe.
2) converting between units (km to m to cm to mm).
LengthsGive the lengths of the following items…
