2.1 Test Original Intention
The motive for conducting Drive Test for the Huawei network in Umuahia Town, Abia State, is to
test for the coverage and the qualit of the network and consequentl !rovide solution to an

e"isting network !roblem that ma be affecting the efficienc of the network# Also, the test result
will hel! !rovide an understanding of network reliabilit and !erformance, and determining what
needs to be done to im!rove consumer e"!erience on the network, to maintain a !rofitable
customer base#

$or the drive test, we used a set of drive test equi!ment with %&S and Son 'ricson ())*
+T'S mobile station in the test car, and a la!to! com!uter installed with data
collection.analsis software +T'S /nvestigation# The two mobile stations were set for both
long call and short call res!ectivel at full rate#
The S was used to test 0"1level +received !ower and the 0"12ual +S!eech.3oice 2ualit#
4oth are used to define the forward coverage range of the sstem#
$or better detailed network information according to 4TS distribution and landform, the
drive test route used is shown in the figure below:

The above figure shows the forward coverage +0"1level of the network# /t can be clearl seen
that the received !ower is not im!ressing es!eciall for the marked areas#
As indicated in the figure for areas marked A, B, C, D, E and F , the are e"!eriencing ver !oor
network coverage#
Areas mared A and C has a !oor coverage because of the dense vegetation and has nosettlements# Hence no o!timi6ation is required for these areas#
Areas mared D, E, and F has a !oor coverage because of the Antenna Tilting and high
antenna height causing areas ver close to the site to have ver low signal strength#
b two degrees below and the antenna height should be reduced#
Area mared B has !oor coverage=s because of forward interference from Site 9 +sector >
which was not configured as a neighbor to the serving Site +sector 9 as shown in the figure
below#

4.1 O@TIMISATION @LAN
$rom the above analsis, and the suggested recommendations so as to im!rove the network
coverage in some areas, the following ste!s can be taken for the o!timi6ation !lan#
The antennas close to the area marked D, E, and F in the RX_LEVEL diagram should be
down tilted b an angle of two degrees below so as to increase network coverage#
Also for area marked B, a neighbor cell +Site 91 sector> should be configured on site1
sector9 in order to avoid forward interference#
4.2 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
$rom the analsis above, it can be inferred that most !o!ulated !arts of the ;it are well
covered b the Huawei 7etwork, e"ce!t for some areas that are having !oor signal received-
level due to thick vegetation surrounding the areas and distances#
$inall, to ensure consistenc in good network !erformance, all signaling links, hardware
equi!ment of the radio network, transmission back bones as well as resources for calls, must be
in good status so as to maintain an e"cellent 0"1level, 0"12ual, S2/, call setu! ratio etc# and
other alread established on-goingE measurement inde" for good network qualit
