Remote Visual Inspection

Visual Test (VT)

Visual testing is the most basic and common inspection method involves in using of human eyes to look for defects. But now it is done by the use special tools such as video scopes, magnifying glasses, mirrors, or borescopes to gain access and more closely inspect the subject area.

Remote Visual Inspection (RVI):

When human eye is impossible to reach the targeted objet then some special tools are used and it is called the Remote Visual Inspection (RVI), which also known as

Borescopic Inspection

Industrial Endoscopy

Video-Borescopic Inspection etc.

RVI/RDVIIt is commonly used whereas

distance, angle of view and limited lighting may impair direct visual examination

or where access is limited by

time, financial constraints or atmospheric hazards.

RVI/RDVIRVI/RDVI is commonly used as a

predictive maintenance or regularly scheduled maintenance tool to assess the

"health" and operability of fixed and portable assets.

The "remote" portion of RVI/RDVI refers to the characterization of the operator not entering the inspection area due to physical size constraints or potential safety issues.

Tools

Common tools used for RVI are as follows: Video borescopes Rigid borescopes Flexible fiberscopes Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras Push cameras

Borescope

A borescope is an optical device consisting of a rigid or flexible tube with an eyepiece on one end, an objective lens on the other linked together by a relay optical system in between. Flexible borescopes Video borescopes Rigid borescopes

Videoscope or Video Borescope

A flexible Videoscope or Video Borescope is an advanced type of borescope that houses a very small Charged Couple Device (CCD) chip embedded into the tip of the scope. The video image is relayed from the distal tip and focusable lens assembly back to the display via internal wiring.

This is unlike a traditional borescope and fiberscope.

Fiberscope

A fiberscope is a flexible fiber optic bundle with an eyepiece at one end, and a lens at the other. It is used for inspection work, often to examine small components in tightly packed equipment, when the inspector cannot easily access the part requiring inspection.

How to-

Development and investment in a selection of remote visual technology solutions, backed up with operator training, enables us to offer a service that allows imagery to be gathered from a catalogue of plant components and is based on:

digital recordings of all video footage if required catalogue of laboratory samples for technique

verification links with boiler and turbine engineering expertise

for high integrity technique development and analysis.

The Benefits

The benefits of using Remote Visual Inspections include:significant time/cost savings:

by negating the need for expensive plant ‘strip-downs’ in future targeted monitoring programmes from reduced breakdown situations through the

identification and evaluation of internal condition by planned RVI schedules

extend plant life through improved knowledge of erosion/corrosion/deposit profiles satisfy the requirements of plant insurance companies.

Applications

It can be applied to a number of areas including: Aerospace Oil and Gas Automotive Construction Security Power generation Research and education Manufacturing Pharmaceutical etc.

It is also used for:•gas turbine blades •blade cooling holes •boiler tubes •turbine rotor bores •steam pipework •boiler headers •valves •steam chests

What we look in Medical Endoscopy Test

What is the Difference in Medical Endoscopy and Industrial Endoscopy?

Nothing Special, Both are Remote Visual Test.

Medical Endoscopy

Industrial Endoscopy

Boiler Case Study

This is an Oil Tanker Auxiliary Boiler. The boiler cant be ran due to its leaky tube. There were 400 tubes. Two defective tubes found by Endoscopy Inspection. And then it is sealed from both side.

Turbine Case Study#1

Severe Crack found Turbine Nozzle of Alstom 34.5MW Turbine after the Endoscopy Inspection.

Turbine Case Study#2

GE 9E Gas Turbine is not running due to lack of sufficient fuel pressure. After a details endoscopy inspection a plastic cap was found.
