Remove Old 3M Invisible Paint Protection Film From a Car

Your precious car comes with a 3m protective film on it to cover the car’s surface. This coat  is  invisible but as time goes by, this 3m protective film becomes visible as it tends to peel off making your  car  look  ugly,  unmanaged  and old.  This  article  has  some tips  and  tricks  that  will  surely  help  you  remove  the  car  paint protection film with ease.You  can  try  the  following  steps  to  remove  the old paint  all  by yourself:

Do  not  use  a  metal  scraper  as  it  might  damage  your  car surface.  Instead,  you  can  use  poly/nylon  auto  to  trim  tools available  these  days.  Try  removing  the  film  by  putting  the edge of the scraper below the car protection film’s edge to see how quickly it will come out.

If you are able to peel off little pieces at a time, try using a heat gun, which will enable easy removal of the paint film. Keep the heat  gun  for  around  two minutes  and make  sure  of  keeping  a distance of at least 20.3 to 30.5 cms from the surface of the car otherwise the effects may be damaging. After sometime you will find  that you are able  to remove  the  larger portions of  the old film.  Use  a  Goo  Gone  adhesive  remover  which  will  help  you remove the film easily.

As  and  when  needed,  keep  heating  and  scrapping.  When  you find smaller strips of the 3M protective film coming out, simply use  the  heat  gun.  The  entire  process  takes  time,  hence  while you are in the process, you need to be patient.

Now simply spray Goo Gone on a microfiber  towel and gently rub  it over  the adhesive of your car. Take one small area at a time.  Continue  rubbing  the  Goo  Gone  till  the  adhesive  comes out completely. If needed, one can use a plastic scraper as well.

If  you  are  tired  of  removing  the  adhesive  using  the  above­mentioned method, bring in a clay bar kit. Spray a 2*2 area and apply the clay bar over it. This will allow the particles to stick to the clay bar. In turn, this clay bar cleans the surface thoroughly.

After removing the adhesive, use a dry microfiber towel to clean the area. A wet cloth may spoil  the area again, therefore, a dry towel is most suitable.

Now choose a car wax and apply it and around the area. Apply it  over  a  larger  area  like  the  hood  or  maybe  the  entire  car  so that it doesn’t look awkward.

Your car looks ever new now; you won’t find a single trace of left over car paint.Pat your back now for the amazing work done. Your hard work has paid off well and the result has been fruitful. By doing this all by yourself, you are sure to save a lot of bucks.
