The birth of a new era The Renaissance began in the 15th century.

It made Europe a great social, cultural and religious improvement.

This movement was called Humanism and it is based on the idea that human beings are the centre of the universe.

DANCEOne important type of instrumental music was the dance. Typical dances were the pavane and the galliard, although there were others.

Renaissance instrumentsIn this period, musical instruments were divided by families.

- Wind instruments: recorder, shawm, crumhorn, trumpet, sackbut, cornamuse.

- String instruments: viol, lute, vihuela, guitar, harp.

- Keyboard instruments: organ, harpsichord.

Secular Vocal Music

Forms of secular music developed in europe are:

-Chanson from France

-The lied from Germany

-The villancico, the romance and the ensalada from Spain

Religious Vocal MusicMass: Is a type of music based on the union of sacred texts that use eucharistic liturgies.

Motet: is a polyphonic composition without accompaniment in the renaissance. Motets don´t overlap different lyrics as the used to do in the middle ages.
