• The DOH and/or PDE have issued intermittent guidance to districts. Since the end of the 2019-20 school year, we have received six different sets of state guidance with several sets being contradictory.

• July 16 & 22, more specific language was used in the guidance, which required the rework of local Health and Safety Plans that would allow students to learn in school buildings.

• Science and direction is continually emerging and inconsistent, which continuously changes as more is learned about COVID-19 and its impacts.

• The state has emphasized this must be a local decision, and schools must make these choices and accept responsibility for the plan.

Guía Estatal/ Comunicación • El DOH y/o PDE han emitido orientaciones intermitentes a los distritos. Desde

el final del ciclo escolar 2019-2020, hemos recibido seis diferentes grupos de guías estatales, con varios grupos que son contradictorios.

• El 16 y el 22 de Julio, se usó lenguaje más específico en la orientación , el cual requirió la reelaboración de los Planes de Salud y Seguridad, que permitieran a los estudiantes aprender en los edificios escolares.

• La Ciencia y dirección son continuamente emergentes e inconsistentes, lo cual cambia de manera frecuente, conforme se aprende más acerca del COVID -19 y sus impactos.

• El Estado ha enfatizado que esta debe ser una decisión local, y las escuelas deben tomar estas decisiones y aceptar la responsabilidad del plan.

The choice we’re faced with is selecting between instruction and safety.

To begin the 2020-2021 academic year with remote learning at home for all students beginning September 8th through November 13th.

KCSD will continue to evaluate the situation for a potential change to the educational model post November 16th to be announced at the October 12th Board Meeting.

Remote Class Structure:

Beginning (20%)All classes will begin with live instruction. During this part of class, students are encouraged to have cameras on and expected to follow the Student Remote Learning Expectations. Attendance will be taken at this time. Alternate attendance procedures will be used for students and families unable to attend live sessions.

Middle (70%)Students will be expected to remain online during this part of class, but videos & audio will be optional at this point. The middle of class will be a mixture of independent work, group work, small group work, watching recorded instructional videos, completing assignments, etc.

End (10%)Classes will regroup with a live session to end the period. Students are encouraged to have cameras on and expected to follow the Student Remote Learning Expectations.

1. Attendance is required and will be taken in accordance with district policy..

2. Students will meet with four of their teachers each day (Block A Day - 1,3,5,7 and Block B Day - 2,4,6,8).

3. Students will also meet with one additional teacher for extra support during a FLEX period. The FLEX period will also be used for extracurricular activities.

4. Each Block will provide a minimum of 20 minutes of synchronous instruction to start class and will conclude with a 10 minute synchronous closure activity.

KCSD will provide educational access for all learners to ensure a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for our special education/gifted students.

Special Education/ Gifted Education

●Case managers will contact individual families of students with IEP/ GIEP, regarding their services and supports. IEP/GIEP meetings will be held as needed.●Student baselines will be collected and progress reviewed within the first three months of school.●The district will continue to utilize Schoology as the Learning Management System (LMS), and courses will be built and delivered by KCSD teachers for direct instruction classes, life skills, autistic support, and emotional support.●Assistants may be needed to support students during the virtual learning environment

●Technology needs will be assessed with the students’ IEP. GIEP teams to provide equitable access to learning and to address student needs.●Related services will occur according to the students’ IEP/GIEP. .●KCSD school psychologists will continue the evaluation process according to district procedures and protocols within the safety guidelines of the state and federal government.●IEP/GIEP meetings will continue in the remote format via Microsoft Teams or phone, following the IDEA policies.

Child Care Needs

● Coordinating with local child care directors of school aged students to help with distance learning needs, professional development, and tech supports for students.

● KCSD staff needs for child care are warranted and we already have a partnership with the YMCA for Y Care, we are awaiting pricing. We are still exploring other options for our staff.

Necesidades del Cuidado de Niños(as)

● Coordinar con los directores de guarderías locales de los estudiantes en edad escolar, para ayudar con las necesidades del aprendizaje a distancia, desarrollo profesional, y apoyo tecnológico para los estudiantes.

What Will Remote Learning Look Like?

● How will students access instruction/curriculum when not in school? Students will access curriculum via Schoology; will have live, small-group instruction. District will work with teachers to provide a balance of synchronous (live) and asynchronous instruction. Synchronous instruction will be recorded.

● Will students have daily access to teachers? Yes, teachers will be conducting live instruction every day in the classroom and will be able to respond to students.

¿Cómo será el Aprendizaje a Distancia ?

● ¿Cómo accederán los estudiantes la instrucción/currículo (plan de estudios)cuando no estén en la escuela? Los estudiantes accederán el currículo(plan de estudios) vía Schoology; tendrá instrucción en grupo pequeño, en vivo. El distrito trabajará con los maestros para proporcionar un balance de instrucción de manera sincrónica (en vivo) y asincrónica. La instrucción sincronica será grabada.
